Hi All,

So I've just started the Le Mans 24 hour race in A-Spec with the Team Oreca '05 Audi R8. Having only doing one 20minute stint before suspending the race (yes I'm a student and have a dissertation to plan and write :( ) it got me thinking...

A set of racing hards on my R8 only lasted 6 laps (20mins) before I had to come in and change them; therefore it would be cool if PD added "Endurance Tyres", like they do for Snow and Dirt tyres, that could, potentially, last double the amount of time as Racing Hards or something around there?
As when we watch Le Mans we see drivers double, or even triple, stinting there tyres.

Furthermore having seen some of the Dubai 24 Hour qualifying and 24 Hour Britcar, it would also be quite interesting if you could upgrade the fuel tank for instance to install a "Endurance Fuel Tank" which is a lot larger than the stock fuel tank. This could perhaps also include "Endurance Suspension" which is longer wearing than normal suspension.

These are just some of the first ideas that came to mind about the endurance races, cause I think they're great fun and I enjoy doing them but it would be great if they could be taken to deeper.

What're your thoughts people?

Cheers

We could only do 10-12 laps at Le Mans with the tyres before the update, at Le Mans this year Audi ran 55 laps on the same set of tyres...kill the realism? More like make the game better.

I personally think it would kill the realism.

How exactly do you mean kill the realism?

Agreed. Even if "Endurance Tyres" only allow us to do 10 - 12 laps pre update that would be good I feel.

You could increase endurance tyre life 5 fold and it will still be short of reality. GT4 was bad in that regard, GT5 is even worse.

True. It's almost like they're promoting short, arcade style races. Because taking part in 10 lap + races with tyre wear on is just irritating with the current model. As is trying to complete the endurance races, having to pit hundreds of times.

Just like in previous GT's with racing super hards.

I've played through all the previous GT's and although I was quite young and it was quite a time ago I can't recall super hards...?
Were they GT2?

I think they were all GT's, not played them in years though so cant remember that well. There was definately super softs, i think there was 5 racing tyres from super hard to super soft. I think.

I'm 100% sure that racing super hard tires were in GT4 as I used them for most endurance races, not sure about GT3 but I think they had them aswell. I don't think they lasted anywhere near 50 laps of Le Sarthe in GT4 though.

GT4 tire levels went super hard, hard, medium, soft, super soft.

Those sport super-softs thingies show promise, but from what i hear they're just racing hard tires with an unused name.

Because, wouldn't they last longer than real life?

Some tires do last that long IRL.

What could be added is more realistic looking tires. What i mean by this is that when tires get really worn sometimes they begin to fall apart or pop. This would be pretty cool.

The only problem with super endurance tires: Arent you forced to change them when you pit anyways?

Real lemans tyres can scrape up on the 50 lap mark, gt5 can just about scrape up on the 5 lap mark.

Now that's just not true.
Me and some friends made racing hards last 14 laps, albeit very badly worn by that point.

The real problem is in GT5 you're allowed to simultaneously change tires and refuel, if that wasn't the case, having tires that lasted longer would actually help.
In other words, PD has to fix the pit stops to make everything work properly, not just the tire wear.

You get a lot less grip on Harder tyres, but not that many laps can be made out of them. And in the end, racing on Mediums or softs, is still better as you can make up fir the lost time(pitstop). I agree, that they need to add More longer lasting tyres or get more difference in the tyre wear.
Because it feels way to unrealistic doing the 24 hours of Le Mans, with tyres that only last 10 laps.

I never really thought about it, but yeah, it defeats the purpose. As you are trying to have the tyres last longer than your fuel.

Before or after the recent tyre wear update? I tried the lemans 24 after the update and the tyres had lost the bulk of grip by the 5th lap.

Tires loss the bulk of their grip after 5 laps in real racing. it's so normal that it's not talked about unless you watch qualifying and it plays into race strategy. burning the tires up in a short time is a setup problem as I see it. GT5 doesn't provide enough tire info to get really build a setup that makes full use of the tires. Prototypes and formula cars have 10 dampers, 10 springs(including ARB), 4 geometry adjustments in the front and 3 geometry adjustments in the rear (toe and camber are geometry adjustments). Having played with the math on GT5 I think its possible to get 50 laps out of hard tires but the last laps are going to be hard and you're going to need to care for your tires the whole time. Not fun, not easy; and I enjoy math and physics.
