I am finally running the 24hr Nurburgring endurance race.

This is a test not only of me but also the CSR-E. I am now 5 hours into the race and the wheel is wonderful. The precision and response of the wheel have allowed me to get around the ring 33 times so far without making a serious error. This is important because I set the race up to be competative while still wanting to win the gold medal. I am ahead by 40 seconds so major shunts would put me behind.

This is also a test of my tactile setup. I have been pushing it pretty hard and in fact I overheated the left channel amplifier and had to back off on the gain. The amplifiers are very hot to the touch and the Aura Pro's are very warm. GT5 is driving the LFE and it really ads a lot to the experience.

Sounds like a great fun mate, can you please share your tactile setup with us?

I actually started my 24h of Nurburgring using my g25. Then my CSR-E arrived so I switched to that (funnily enough at around 12h mark).

So I haven't had the chance to set the wheel up yet bar some minor on wheel adjustments (temporarily increased deadzone to 20 to prevent the wheel from swinging left/right at high speed on straights). Anybody else experience this? Any advice on setup for gt5 that works?

I also changed the sensitivity to 360, Force Feedback to 70 and that is about it.

Instantly I am much quicker and grabbing the rear when it wants to step out is a whole lot easier compared to the GT5. The wheel really gives much better feedback of traction.

What I also noticed is that on the g25 my rear tyres wore quicker than my fronts. Now my fronts wear quicker than my rears. If I push it hard enough the front tyres only last about 2/3 of the lap.

Your good mate. 5 hrs in and typing on a forum as well as racing.
Hats of to ya lol.

You want the Sensitivity to be set to 900 for GT5. Anything less is prone to oscillations at high speed. You can diminish it by creating a deadzone but it is nowhere as good as having the CSR-E set correctly for GT5 and 0 for the deadzone.

Alternatively you can set the Sensitivity to "off'. This allows the game to set the appropriate Sensitivity which is 270 for FM4 and 900 for GT5. That is the way I have my wheel set up and I can go back and forth without switching the wheel settings.

I'm not one of those who thinks it is required to run the race straight through in 24 hours.

I'm at 9 hours, it's the middle of the night and it's raining. These are very tough driving conditons and while the AI drivers aren't perfect, they have some very fast cars and they just keep coming. Just like real life drivers I take a break and in this case I thought I would report on how my rig is holding up.

This race really works both the wheel and the tactile. The wheel is great. I turned down the gain on the tactile and it has not over heated but it is very, very hot. There is lots of tactile going on in this race.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try that when I resume my race. Would likely explain why I am chewing front tyres as well.

Don't know if you tried this but I noticed while it rained it was still faster to stay on slicks than wets/intermediates.

I am using an AWD, the GT-R 35R Touring Car and it also was chewing up front tires. I rebalanced the breaks putting more breaking on the rears and adjusting the torque balancer to put 75% of the torque on the rear wheels. These actions gave me more balanced tire wear.

The intermediates are much faster than the rain tires even when the track is 100% wet. I tried one lap on wets and immediately went back to the intermediates. I used the same strategy on 24hr LeMans but wanted to see if the 2.03 upgrade had fixed this glitch. It really makes no sense that rain tires would be slower than other tires when the track is totally wet.

I completed the 24hr Nurburgring race in 1st place with 161 laps. The first 5 hours were dry the last 19 hours were run in the rain. It was a comprehensive test of my rig.

The CSR-E wheel performed flawlessly. The only thing I noticed is that the steering is a little heavy when I first started each day. I always "suspended" the game and therefore started on pit road. The sharp "S" turn at the end of the straight required very heavy turn force and sometimes the belt slipped. Once I was four or five turns into the race the force even out and was consistent from then on.

I have the fan set to automatically come on when the unit senses heat build up. It ran intermittently and the unit remained cool to the touch throughout.

The wheel was extremely comfortable to drive. I had experienced some chaffing on my thumbs from the G27 when I drove the 24hr Lemans race with it. The CSR-E wheel produced no chaffing.

In regard to perfromance the wheel is very precise and fast. I made relatively few errors because of the precision and the quick response of the wheel allowed me to recover mistakes which I don't think I could have recovered with the G27.

The paddle shifters are a delight but the G27 had excellent paddles also.

The CSR-E peddles were also a delight. The upgrade to pressure sensitive breaking is a real improvement in driving capability. Being able to control breaking allowed me improved control particularly in the wet where breaking is critical.

The tactile experience was dramatic and once I got the gain on the amps adjusted so they didn't over heat everything was great. It was really a dramatic change when the tactiles shut down mid-race from overheating as the sound and feel just disappeared and the game felt greatly deminished.

Glad to hear your CSR-E wheel survived the test. I'm an endurance racer for the most part in iRacing, but I've never done more than a 4hr race. I received my CSR-E today but I am still waiting on my new projector to arrive before I really start in on the game though. Very glad to hear that your experience was relatively problem free.
