Has anyone noticed the engine bays when your car turns ghost as a result of spinning out and whatnot?

You can see the engine(not very detailed and scaled kinda wrong but still)but why would they throw them in? I understand most cars have hoodvents with a somewhat visible valve cover or something here and there. Is this something that has been discussed before?

Its harder to see on the skyline, but i think its because it was on the grass. Its still visible though.

Ive never seen a hood come off on any car. Just the other day before i went to bed i went to do a track day event in my S class Raptor. I did not race one bit, but instead went the wrong way on the track and smashed up everysingle car. Did that for a good 15 minutes and not one car lost its hood, some cars even did barrel rolls and still nothing. Only thing that i seen come off of the cars in a crash is mirrors, bumpers, and shattered windows.

Hoods do not come off.

I believe these are left-overs from fm2 or 3, they are mostly 2d images and not on all cars. Turn 10 probably wanted to have hoods that come off with damage, but maybe not all the manufacturers weren't cool with it. fm1 had rollovers locked for a similar reason.

I could be over-thinking and it could just be for Hood-vent purposes.

I want to go test it out with other cars, but you can only ghost when your online i think. The hood vent thing came to mind with me as well, but theres not to many cars that have vents with visible insides. I know the S2000 is on though.

If it's like FM3, on some cars, if you damage them enough the hood bends up a bit, allowing you to see underneath a little, the textures where there to just look better then an empty void I think.

They did have a tech demo at one point where the engine block actually flew out in a bad crash. I think it was for Forza 2. But, again, not having all manufactures on board with it killed that. Maybe they had it modeled for that or something. You can see thing like cars with flip out headlights peeking through when you damage the front end. Nice touch.

This....if you do enough damage to your hood, it can fold up enough that the engine is visible.

I have not seen this on most of the cars ive intentionally wrecked. Maybe i just havnt found the right one though. I want to try to get a photo of all the engines i could :)

It definitely works because I've done it myself.....but not intentionally, and I don't remember which car I was in. :boggled: I think I may have run into the back of a stupid AI car after he brake checked me in the middle of a straight as I was attempting a pass.

Haha, I had a photo of the 240z ghosted but never uploaded it. I was mad the engine was way too big.
I would test the '04 STI and the NSX. Both of those front ends can take a severe beating. I know the STI hood folds up quite significantly.

I never noticed the ghosted out engine bays. But I have seen bits of an engine after the hood is crumbled a bit after an accident.

Wouldnt work on the NSX as it is an MR setup :P

Well, I guess if the graphics have to give somewhere, the engine bays are the most acceptable place, given how often they will be seen...

Although in shift(albeit the damage level is WAAAY more) the bays are quite visible after a crash.

I guess the engine bay was far enough down on the list to get fully rendered, T10 ran out of available pixels on the car and it had to get cut. Personally, I don't see it as a huge loss. It was probably easiest to make the hood never come off to save time anyway.
