Hello everyone.
I haven't heard this anywhere and I've been trolling this site awhile now, but would you agree a engine start button would add to the immersion?
All the start up sounds are there already (GT5), alot of us have clutch pedals or would like that option, and implementing a engine start button would just look sweet on a next generation wheel.
Think about it, on the events that don't require a rolling start, pushing the engine start button, hearing the startup, revving your engine, then engaging first gear and if you stall, you would need to push the button to start up again. Plus, you could turn your car off at any time too.
Of course, a open lot for drag racing, drifting, effing around would be appreciated as well.
Anybody share this idea?

I do like t. In fact NFS: Hot Pursuit (the new one) has this option, as well as turning on/off yourheadlamps at will (unlike GT) and also the police lights.

K, nice to hear that.

I think it might be nice, but to be honest we wouldn't really us it. When I see the START on the screen I usually floor it, wouldn't want to mess around with an engine start button. As for the sound, when you select a car you hear the start up sound anyway. Nice idea though, wouldn't mind having it in the game.

Fixed

But anyways, on topic, I think that maybe an engine start button or something like that could add to the realism, but I fear that if you have that, then you'll have to start including an ignition key so that people can turn it to start their engines on cars that don't have a engine start button. Otherwise, some people will start complaining that it's not realistic for some cars without an engine start button to be using that, etc. etc.

Even worse, if PD decided to re-include the Benz Patent Wagen, imagine having to start that

This is a great idea. Starting your engine in the pits would me much better than at the line. Having the ability to fully stall out abusing the clutch would be awesome. As said, they already have all the sounds.

An open drag and drifting lot would be a good idea

Buttons are fun.

Indeed. It would surely give a bit more excitement to races, especially those in which are very close to begin with. But seeing my digital... digit... pressing a button and bringing such a great sound to my speakers would be a welcomed addition to the game. Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines 👍

Yeah, that would be great,but... We only have a limited number of buttons on the controller. I'm not sure that the folks at PD are very experienced in programing combo's (like in Tekken or MK)..

There's what, 14 usable buttons? Four triggers, 4 arrows, square/triangle/circle/X, and the two joystick buttons. Select/Start/PS can't be used, so for example...

R2 - Accelerator
L2 - Brake
R1 - Shift up
L1 - Shift down

Square - Hand brake
Triangle - Look behind
Circle - Ignition
X - Horn

Right analog - Wipers (joystick can also be used for accel/brake)
Left analog - Headlights (if applicable; joystick for steering as well)

Directional buttons - Not needed unless the steering/accel/brake control is preferred

Not sure if I'm missing something there... anyone? ... but it does appear to be fairly straight forward and easy enough to implement.

A "modifier" button could be used in combination with others (for example SELECT+Triangle, SELECT+Square, etc) in order to increase the number of possible shortcuts/commands. I propose to use the "SELECT" button for that.

Haha, this will be the last time and thanks for the tip..I've just been spending way too much time at GTP:crazy:

Yeah, Button mapping could be an issue if you use the realtime adjustment settings in your button config...I know on my Fanatec wheel there isn't a free button

With all the start up sounds there, and some appropriate vibration applied:/ (I didn't like writing that) it could be an option that adds a little more to every car:)

Or get that Staples button and wire a recorder with your favorite recorded car sound. Everytime you push it, it makes the noise. VROOM!

That option would be nice too! Didn't know NFS HP had it..no wonder it got great reviews:dopey:
