Hi folks, just noticed I didn't have this trophy and have managed a pretty repeatable solution for those that don't yet.

1) We're going to Indy! Break out your American Championship Indy grind-mobile and head to the oval. I used my Ford GT LM car, but I think anything more powerful than the standard GT LM cars will do.

2) Switch to external view, yes, it's horrible*, but it makes judging the line easier at the finish. Pull to the front of the pack, this is usually on the first/second corner.

3) On each corner after a long straight, coast down to just above 160mph and look backwards. We're aiming to steal _one_ GT LM from the pack. Accelerate hard on the short straight, then slow to just under 170mph. Look back again, if you're lucky you'll have only one GT LM behind you.

4) Repeat slowing and looking on the bends, accelerate hard for each long straight. You're aiming to use your higher power to isolate one car, let him draft you. Remember to keep powering away so you pull out a gap to the pack.

5) On the final back straight (lap 5) let the GT LM pass you and sit on his behind. Stay there, pull up tight into the final corner and draw level with him coming out of the final bend.

6) The tricky bit, hold power till you just nose past him, then back off a little and re-apply power as he catches you...you're aiming to finish with your nose just in front.

Voila, hopefully now you'll have another trophy for the cabinet.
Enjoy!

* Apologies in advance to lovers of external view...I find I might as well be driving on google maps from this view...no sensation of speed.
Please save view comments for somewhere else, it's just a quick guide![/size]

I actually did the Arch Rivals trophy at the same time as the Within One Hundredth. I used two controllers in a single lap arcade race and pressed the two cars together and drove to the finish with the player 1 nose slightly in front and got both trophies.

Heh! Nice one...I got that one by accident racing a mate before I found the trophy list.

A handy side-effect of this method...you earn a few hundred thousand bucks while you're at it!

I got the trophy day one. I spun out at the end on a Go-Kart Race, crossed the line backwards, and won by 0.00.006 seconds. Too bad the game couldn't handle my awesomeness and gave me a silver 2nd place trophy. :grumpy:

Dammit, why is there no "awesome victory" trophy?

I tried doing this in the Ferrari challenge. I won by .004 yet no trophy appeared so I guess it doesn't work on seasonal events.

I know, I wish there was a "some say.." trophy for the top gear test track challenge and for the hardest challenge there should be "all we know he's called the stig!!" trophy if you win it. Anybody agree?

Once, on the Samba Bus Top Gear Special Event, I managed to get into the lead at the very last corner before the finish, but for some reason I decided to try and force the second place Bus off the road anyway, I think he got a better exit than I did. I was ahead of him, just, but pushing him off the road as we crossed the finish line, and I lost by 0.002. On the replay you could clearly see I was in front when we crossed the line, so I presumed it was a PD anti-cheat thing.

I've done a lot of races in my time with GT5, but not once have I gotten this trophy 'naturally'. I'm not that bothered, though, because I won't be any closer to the platinum without first golding every single thing (not sure I'll be able to handle that...). Still, thanks for the tip, but I'll probably try and do it split screen or something.

You won a 200 lap endurance race by 0.01 seconds? I'm pretty sure I would've wet myself as I crossed the line...

XP Grinding can get boring. I left the game to go get a drink and forgot to pause, got sidetracked, came back and I was in 6th. I got back in the lead pretty quickly and near lap 190 I decided to go for the achievement, so I just grinded along next to the guy until lap 200.

Get into first place, stop your car right in front of the finish line, have 2nd place car hit you and push you across the line. The faster the car is going (Like The Wind on Indy would be ideal) the better.

I managed to get this by accident bspecing in a panoz at Indy, I wasn't paying much attention and when I looked up my bob was coming down the front straight in third and I just hit overtake and he one by .003 I almost shat myself of pure dumb luck

I finished a race 0.00:000 from the next car and the game gave me 2nd place and no trophy : ( maybe I already have it, never did check, if not I'm gonna do that arch-rivals trick somebody posted above! Nice!

You didn't get it because you didn't win the race.

Ohhhh, That makes sense... For some reason I thought it was for finishing really close to someone else no matter what place you finish :dunce:

Did exactly the same thing. This is by far the easiest way to get both trophies. High Speed Ring. Begin at the end of the last straight. Two controllers in auto and hit X. Simples.

i got this trophy a good amount of time ago in the NASCAR events on A-Spec, didn't realise the trophy really existed til i won it lol

I was surprised I had to go out of my way to get it actually. I got the human stopwatch trophy (which I thought would have been harder to get...) during the karting special events, and I'd had my fair share of close finishes over my racing career up until the point where I decided to "Engineer "Within One Hundredth"". But they must've been all over 0.01 obviously. I'm pretty sure I recall some 0.060 and 0.030 finishes... I always prioritized winning over trophying.

That is actually really brilliant.

I had that same problem in split screen my brother and I were racing Veyrons in SSR7 and passed the finish line. It said 0.00:00 and no trophy...
