Well..i need to do a project for my english class
i need:
a) an asian (chinese, taiwanese, japanese, etc) to write a poem on Friendship
b) two poems about friendship by anyone
c) a canadian who wrote a poem about friendship

c'mon poetic people, this is your time to shine! hhe

PS: If you want to include your name into the poem, thatd be great, because my teacher wants a name, not just a username, heh

please post the poems here

i too am doing a project on peotry for english. though i have to get a poem and analyze it in a 2 page essay.

yea its off topic i know.

Hmm, strange, i recentely had to make a poem from a book...

Anyway, what kind of poem do you need?

Oh! doesn't matter
it can be haiku or w/e
it doesn't matter what kind it is
just as long as it is about friendship and uses poetic devices
eg: alliteration, simile, metaphor, so on

I'm chinese...when is this due? I can help out...any special requirments besides the one I covered already? (being asian)

How long should it be? Hmmm poetic devices...this might take me longer...I'll still help if you me to.

Hey I added you to my icq...I just got it so I'm not sure how to use it but I think its sending u something to let u know I added...so hit me up if u see m on that.

I'm part Japanese. Is that good enough? I won't have time to write one now, but during the weekend, I'll have time to do so.

Im glad poems were the first topic in english for me, its all over now.

Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
If it wasnt for Ford
Our tools would be rust

This poem is about friendship. To me anyway. I think it might be my "favorite" poem...

EVENING

Slowly now the evening changes his garments
held for him by a rim of ancient trees;
you gaze: and the landscape divides and leaves you,
one sinking and one rising toward the sky.

And you are left, to none belonging wholly,
not so dark as a silent house, nor quite
so surely pledged unto eternity
as that which grows to star and climbs the night.

To you is left (unspeakably confused)
your life, gigantic, ripening, full of fears,
so that it, now hemmed in, now grasping all,
is changed in you by turns to stone and stars.

Rainer Maria Rilke

He is the poet I connect to most deeply, most of the time. I can read and re-read this, and other poems by him, and always feel like there is everything left to discover.

Here's the original German...

Abend

Der Abend wechselt langsam die Gewänder,
die ihm ein Rand von alten Bäumen hält;
du schaust: und von dir scheiden sich die Länder,
ein himmelfahrendes und eins, das fällt;

und lassen dich, zu keinem ganz gehörend,
nicht ganz so dunkel wie das Haus, das schweigt,
nicht ganz so sicher Ewiges beschwörend
wie das, was Stern wird jede Nacht und steigt;

und lassen dich (unsäglich zu entwirrn)
dein Leben, bang und riesenhaft und reifend,
so dass es, bald begrenzt und bald begreifend,
abwechselnd Stein in dir wird und Gestirn.

Rainer Maria Rilke

I am in Poetry in University. I can help you out.

If you want to impress the teacher. Find a certain poem called a "Sestina".

Try and identify things like iamb's (unstressed stressed) trochee's (stressed unstressed) and spondee's (double stressed). It has to do with what syllables are accented.

Enjambment is when there is no pause between lines. And Caesura which is a pause in the middle of a line. In grade 9 the teacher will know/think you spent alot of time learning this.

With the way people act around here I doubt anyone is willing to put themselves on the spot with their own poetry, and open themselves up to the inevitable ridicule it will bring. Can't say I blame them.

I'll quite happily scan anything you have for spelling, grammar etc.

Bird has written a few poems I imagine she'd take a look too.

Don't worry... just PM me the poem, that way, no one can see it.. hehe
and epic, probaly ~ 10 lines is good.... but minimum should be like.. 8 ish?

hey ppl... i just wrote this .. check it out
At first I saw you,
Lonely, afraid, shy
No one wanted to know you, but I do
I came up to you and asked for your name,
Things you did, what you like.
We briefly said bye, but I saw you,
Walking home, all alone.
I caught up with you, realizing that you lived right beside me
That was the start of our good friendship.
