Equinox or Escape?

Hey,

My dad is going to be getting a new car in the next few months, and i think that its come down to either a Ford Escape or a Chevy Equinox...which do you think is better?

For around $26,000 CDN, you can get the base escape with a 2.3 L i4 with 153 horsepower...and everything else that comes with the base model. On the other hand, for the same price, we can get the chevy equinox base model that comes with a 3.4 L V6 with 190 hp and 210 lbs/ft torque.

As far as looks go i think i like the equinox alot better...it has a more agressive stance then the escape...

Which do you think would be the best for under $30,000 CDN?

Only if you trust a chinese v6 in detroit iron. I think the equinox is way better than the escape. Don't all the exuinoxes come with the 190 hp v6?

Only idiots buy the base Ford Escape, which has a manual transmission (with no option for an automatic) and 2-wheel drive with no option for 4-wheel drive. The Equinox's engine is outdated trash, but I haven't seen spec lists for it so I can't say anything else. Can't you get a Vue V6 for that much? Or a CR-V EX 2WD?

The Vue Red Line would be a good choice, but it is several grand too expensive. Also, for a little more you could get a base Forester X, with a torquey 160 hp flat-4, and better reliablity to boot.

Of the two choices you listed, I would go with the Equinox. The Escpae is a recall on wheels.

I'm still trying to figure out how such a nice looking car like the Equinox came from GM. :odd: I can't believe I'm saying this either but I'd go with the Equinox.

well...my dad works for ford so he kind of wants to buy an american car...

the cars gunna be like a secondary car so it doesnt have to be anything special or top of the line but yah

Oh, in that case cant oyu get something like a 20% discount on any new ford? I know someone who worked for GM, and they had a deal like that.

In that case, the Escape doesn't look all that bad, given the (yet) lower price.

for ford its 15% off so its basically like paying no taxes...

I have a friend who owns an Equinox. He is very happy with it. Comfortable ride compared to his last car... I say Equinox. But I dont like american cars... I say go with a 4Runner... Depends on what you want to use the car for though I guess

Why? It's the same engine in the Vue V6. It's just several thousand on top of the Vue V6 to look slightly better. It's the same concept as the Chevrolet Blazer Xtreme.

Subaru should be ashamed of this vehicle - all these ads touting the safety of the Forester, and the X doesn't even have ABS as an option. Considering it was redesigned just two years ago, the Forester X is probably the worst member of this class (there are worse vehicles but most have been out for years).

The Escpae is a recall on wheels.

Even though it hasn't been recalled in four model years?

The second-best car in the segment and the best in your price range is the Jeep Liberty Sport with the optional 3.7L V6.

I say go with a 4Runner...

No. Class. Wrong. Grr...

I believe the regular VUE V6 is a GM unit, but the VUE Red Line is a Honda unit.

Wonderfully true. The Vue V6 is now the best small SUV ever. It's such a damn good idea, too.
