I was just loking at some pics of the 64 GTO and 69 Z-28. I noticed that they both have factory hub caps on. I wonder if Period correct wheels will be on the menu. Old cars running 18 inch BBS wheels and low profile tires is just wrong. Not to mention how they would look on that 1883 Daimler!

Did they use pnumatic tires in 1883 (or 1886 thats what I thought it was). I think it would be hilarious to have huge mags on it.

The Daimler will probably be like the F1 cars in GT3 - no wheel mods. As for a stage 4 turbo and NOS shot, well, that's probably another story. Fully sic bro!!

If there are really old cars like the daimler in then there at least must be 5 other cars from a similar to race against at the least.....like a 'turn on the century' race...We supposedly have the model T...but where are the other 4......It would be interesting to see what they come up with!.....I can't wait to see the 3D driver drive those things!

old car, new wheels can look pretty god imo.

But at the same time i definetly agree that some period wheels are needed, such as empis BRMs Sprintstars etc. My fear is that on the majority of the classic cars you wont be able to change the wheels at all :grumpy:

Are they PORSCHE wheels?

Porsche wheels on a V dub? I know their origins are close, but this is a little too cosy!

Yep, I know of a few old Beetles that have Porsche engines too.

I was just going to say that. I know a lot of old Beetles that have Porsche engines. This one probably has one aswell. The rims are there to match.

Porsche wheels are put on VW's often, classic ones as well as the modern ones shown in pic. A guy in my Dad's air cooled VW club has got 993 cup wheels on his lowered split bus, looks really cool.

I can only imagine how cool that looks.

The reason why porsche wheels look so good on beetles must be because the beetles pretty much are porsches (designed by the same guy, first porsche had the same chassis)

In the early days, a Porsche engine in a Beetle or buggy was a 356 engine (1600cc). The word "porsche engine in a buggy or VW" became so common, that many still think this is done often, only now people even think of a 6 cylinder 300hp engine by this.
In 20 years I've only seen a few 6 cylinders however, as they give a weight penalty and maintenance cost that's not competitive against the use of a tuned Beetle engine, not to speak about the homologation issues.
Some buggy owners nowadays also like to call their typ 4 engine a "Porsche" engine too, as it was used on the 914, but basically this is a VW 411 engine.
6-cyl Porsche engines in VW's are quite scarce, and even then they mostly are the older 2.2 or 2.4 engines, which are more affordable.

The old beetle was designd by Ferdinand Porsche, but the first Porsche was designd by his son Ferry Porsche. Ferdinand could not have done that because he was in jail for making tanks for the german army. But it's true, they do look alike and share alot of parts.

those cars can be found by the millions in both Mexico and Brazil, after watching them all my life (family even had one at one point), there's really nothing special about them :P

On the original topic, there better be a set of Cragar SS wheels in the game, muscle cars are just not the same without them

Just don't hope to put on spinners on an a gullwing Mercedes-Benz or three-spoke wheels on a Model T. Maybe the game will not allow you to fiddle with the wheels of old cars. In addition, you may not be able to touch any of the older cars with super slicks and racing chips and Stage 4 turbos. And remember, you're getting classic cars and Laguna Seca. It's best to leave old glory untouched. Anyone who's ever seen the Monterrey Historics know what I'm talking about. I have a GREAT feeling that some sort of vintage race will be set up for Laguna Seca in GT4.

As far as muscle cars and stuff go, some people have mixed feelings about it, but some would want fancy wheels for their old muscle while others want to cherish them as classics and not modernize them in any such way. The ones who choose option 1 would say that "if a damned Honda can show style with cheap ass wheels, so can my 66 Chevelle!" Some would say for option 2: "It's best to keep classics classic and not break a non-broken car." Either way, I don't think it will be too much of a problem.

Oh, and keep in mind. This also applies to recent cars with old wheels. Who'd want wheels from the 80s on a Dodge Viper? Sixteen-spoke wheels on a Toyota GT-One Race car? Or even wheels from a VW Beetle on a Fina McLaren F1? Thought so.

👍

Or some torque thrust wheels.

HELL YEAH 👍

::EDIT:: wrong quote. I was referring to Car Guy's statement

Changing and swapping wheels/mags is one of the things I am looking forward to trying in GT4. I would love to be able to custom my old car. that would be awesome.

Plus I want to lower the suspension and tuffin it's image.

Why is everyone complaining about "mismatched" rims?? I sincerely hope you aren't the same people complaining about the lack of reverse lights... Most wheels should be available for most cars. Why? Because in real life they use specific bolt patterns on the hubs, not "historically-incorrect-rejct-this-rim" patterns. A 4X100 rim made in the 60's should sure as hell fit a 4X100 rim made in the 90's. If it doesn't then maybe they SHOULD leave the reverse lights off...

It doesn't seem to be that wayin all the photo mode shots, thats wierd. Maybe it is becasue it's an opel, it could be the stock wheels, that they felt were not worth the trouble for detailing fully. If you look they ar a partial 3d, better then GT3 wheels atelast (when driving)

Yes that are the stock wheels. It looks strange in Photomode everything highly detailed and then the wheels 👎 low detail.

I saw a 1972 Porsche 911 2.4 with what looked like 17" Carrera Cup wheels a few backs and I thought it suited the car very well.

Bit off topic but........ hope they include the new vauxhall range.....like the new astra, tigra and corsa......

oh.........and also......why can't PD use the 3D wheels from car showroom graphics?......the cars in the menus are super detailed.....beyond photomode.....
