Semi-final 1 18 May 2021
Semi-final 2 20 May 2021
Final 22 May 2021

Eurovision returns this week for the first time since COVID, a year after its first ever cancellation. Hosted in Rotterdam, where it was supposed to be held last year, the show will be held in front of a limited number of fans in the arena.

26 artists have returned from the 40 confirmed for last year, and the songs are different to last year's because of Eurovision rules.

Due to travel restrictions, Australia's artist and delegation will not be able to be at the show, and will instead enter with their Live-on-Tape recording. Each country had to record a set and performance in their home country to be shown in the eventuality that they were unable to compete in The Netherlands, or suddenly tested COVID positive before a performance.

i am tempted to watch this year just to see what each country does.

Germany seems to be particularly my cup of tea in being one of those 'annoying songs' so might well watch a stream of this whilst I game at the weekend.

Malta, Russia, Ukraine, Cyrpus, Azerbaijan, Sweden, Lithuania, Belgium, Norway and Israel qualified from the first Semi-Final.

Croatia were a surprise non-qualifier after an excellent performance, Slovenia and North Macedonia performed well, but never stood a chance, Australia's Live-on-Tape performance was excellent but wasn't the same as a performance in the arena, while Ireland and Romania both faltered with poor vocal performances on the night, spoiling what were good songs.

San Marino (feat. Flo Rida), Greece, Moldova, Iceland (forced to show their Rehearsal performance after 2 members tested COVID positive), Serbia, Albania, Portugal, Bulgaria, Finland and Switzerland qualified from the second Semi-Final.

The non-qualifiers weren't much of a surprise. Estonia and Latvia were similar to other songs, but not as good. Poland and Denmark tried to bring back the 80s, but times have moved on. Czech Republic struggled like Ireland and Romania in the first Semi - good song but really poor vocal performance on the night. Austria and Georgia were never going to qualify with the songs submitted.

All rests on the final now on Saturday!

After dominating the Public televote, Italy were crowned the winners of the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, with their song "Zitti e Buoni" by Måneskin.

The members of the band have all taken drugs tests to disclaim the video that looked like lead singer Damiano Davide sniffing a line of Cocaine, and all have come back negative after the band all made statements of disgust at even the thought of them taking drugs.

The televote sequence began brutally with the first four countries announced (UK, Germany, Spain and The Netherlands) all recieving 0 points from the public, leaving the UK top be the first country since the 2016 scoring system revamp to score 0 points from both the juries and televotes.
