Has anyone ever heard of Thunder Over Louisville? It is the kick off party to the Kentucky Derby Festival, which is essentially a two week party leading up to the Kentucky Derby.
Around the Louisville, Kentucky area they make these events sound like they are huge events and what we are known for, but usually when I meet people that aren't from around here all they know about Louisville is Louisville Slugger baseball bats, and they have to be baseball fans to know that much. Outside of that everyone either knows nothing of Kentucky or tends to think that we are just a bunch of barefoot and pregnant rednecks.
Anyway, I have been to nearly every Thunder. I have only missed a handful and those were during college when I was out of town. It is a six-hour long air show followed by the world's largest annual fireworks show. The airshow continually gets better and the fireworks are always getting bigger and better to hold the world's largest title. This year we will have the Blue Angels along with many others.
So, I was just curious if anyone has ever heard of this or been to it, and if they could think of anything they could compare to it. Or is this all just a bunch of local hype to make blowing millions of dollars on a party surrounding a two minute horse race acceptable?

Every year I've tried to go, but for some reason or another I've never been able to make it.
