Evidence of a Google browser

Really, what's the point? Gmail - who needs 1GB and GBrowser (or whatever it's going to be called) will just be Google-labelled Mozilla by the sounds of it. That quote from Slashdot will probably turn out to be true. :scared:

GooOS? What a ridiculously stupid name.

I don't see the point in a Google browser based on Mozilla, but I'm not the CEO of Google. I'm interested to see what special features they'll include in it, though.

A quick google search shows that gBrowser is already the name of an image viewer for OS X.

I heard somewhere along the line, that the whole system (GooOS, GoogleBrowser, and a Google replacement for the Office Suite) was to be released sometime in the near future. This would be a strain on Microsoft, since Google plans on selling the whole setup for under 100 bux.

But then we'd have to wait for apps to be coded for it (Linux has been out for years and there still isn't that great of a deal of software for it), unless they're going to infringe copyrights and nick the Windows API...

Well it was also said, that it would be Microsoft compatible. Meaning, you could run Microsoft software on it. I dunno about the whole changeover effect you'd have switching to GooOS.

The way everyone jumped on the Gmail bandwagon..."oohhh...it says Google.....it must be l33to...I must have it...." I expect a GBrowser to be a great success.

Unless they have some inherent innovation, I dont see why I would want to use this. The browser has not fundamentally changed since the Mosaic.

Can anyone copy and paste what the slashdot quote is? My browser crashes for some reason when I click on the link

Got FireFox?

ServeYourWorld writes "The New York Post is reporting that 'Based on the half-dozen hires in recent weeks, Google appears to be planning to launch its own Web browser and other software products to challenge Microsoft.' I took a guess and did a whois search for Gbrowser.com and indeed Google Inc. is listed as the registrar."

If it were based on Mozilla, the one important thing that would come out of that deal is the fact that millions more people know what Google is than what Mozilla is – Even though Firefox is on a roll with its preview release, it still has a very small stake on the market. Google would have an infinitely better chance of getting it to the masses (and by jove, the standards people are really hoping for this).

I bet the browser will come with a bunch of useless stuff that will only take up RAM.
How do you figure? The only two applications Google makes right now are both web-based (Google and Gmail), which has no inherent connection with RAM usage, since it's based on the browser that's using it.

If it's based on Mozilla, then I don't think they will make it any smaller.

Usually, the "product" is modified in someway, adding to the base, not taking away from it.
