Ok so I tried checking the forums to make sure this wasn't a previous thread and found nothing of the sort so I'm gonna throw it out there. I like the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (all ten generations) more than the Subaru Impreza WRX STi (any and all model years). I like the Lancer so much, its my favorite Japanese car. In fact, I like the Lancer so much, I'd even go so far as to say it is the best car ever made. But that's not what this forum is about. In my experience, I've always found the Lancer to come on top, however I have had a recent experience with Subaru and I'm starting to warm up to the good ol' boxer. I wanna hear what you guys think. As a whole, which is better?!

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution?

or....

The Subaru Impreza WRX STi?

Keep it clean kids.

Subaru Impreza WRX STi is better. Why?

- Even the base models have AWD
- They've had a handbuilt model in the lineup (22B ring a bell?)
- Coupe versions can be found in the older models ( why is this significant? because 2/3 door chassis is stiffer than 5-door one)
- More driver than computer oriented performance.
- The boxer burble beats regular i4 soundtrack anytime.

Having actually driven non-turbo Imprezas, I'd have to say nay, nay and nay.

All AWD does for any Impreza with less than 230 hp is make them dog slow. And don't get me started on how they go with the automatic transmission.

Not that the old ATs in the Lancer were that great, but while the current STI gets stuck with a horrid slushbox, the new Evo has a terrific dual-clutch job.

Previous non-STI Imprezas were heavy, understeering things. The new ones are lots better, but the Lancer Evo STILL has a much keener front end than the STI.

To be totally fair, non-Evo Lancers before the tenth-generation Ralliart were pretty dull, too... But if we are talking EVO to STI, I'd give the Lancer the nod.

BOTH. There's my 2 cents. I was going to say GT-Four to be a smart ass but decided against it ;)

I'd rather tell girls that I have an EVO...They tend to look at you funny and walk away if you tell them you have an STI. :indiff:

I'd take the newest gen STI over the EVO since it's a bit more grown up and practical (I'd take the hatchback over the sedan) That said, I'd take any EVO over any previous model STI. Sad thing the EVO is going to die now and the next Impreza looks like everything else on the roads these days.

There have been FWD base models in the States.

- Coupe versions can be found in the older models ( why is this significant? because 2/3 door chassis is stiffer than 5-door one)
Usually, no. In the coupe body the holes on each side are bigger. In a sedan the pillars are more evenly spaced and there are more of them. Typically sedan versions have more solid structures than their coupe counterparts, but they're slightly heavier.

- The boxer burble beats regular i4 soundtrack anytime.
Can't argue with this one though!

For the record, I still don't like the new STi hatches and sedans and I think the Evo 10 is far too refined for my taste. I much prefer the older models of each.

Well, they're both great cars but my preference is for the STi... there's just something so mesmerizing about that blue and gold combination. Plus, based on my GT experience, I think the STi is a little easier to drive, although it does tend to understeer.

Aren't most of the STi's lighter than their contemporary Evos as well..?

The Sti.

-The Blue and Gold Paintjob
-The old Imprezzas especially the 22B
-The latest hatch reminds me of the Lancia Delta Evo2

Don't get me wrong i love the Evo aswell. Infact i prefer the Evo 6 and 7 to the awful Bug Eye Imprezza. But the 90s STi easily beats the equivalent Evo's

Evo's all the way.

It's a fun car to own, considering that we would usually encounter STIs and have a little drag race from the light. lol

STI. Love the Evo, but I always have and always will love the Impreza more. It seems the better "driver's" car than the Skyline Jr.

Shouldn't have this included a poll as well?
And I say Newer Subies for style and older Evos for the performance.
As well as the sound of the good 'ol 4G63.

If I went to the track every week, I'd probably pick an EVO. Since I don't, I'll say STI. While both have rather lacking interiors, the STI just feels better to me and that clicky, mechanical, shifter just gives you that fizzy.....yeah.

It seems the better "driver's" car than the Skyline Jr.

WHat is your definition of "driver's car"?

Didn't Top Gear mention the Imprezas are cheaper then Lancers .the 22b is one of my favorite cars of all time and also there is the Colin Mcrae Factor so I'd prefer Subies but the 10 is an Incredible car to be honest and It is Probably better .

Neither, because I have taste. And when you have taste, you buy one of these:

Evo, they're both turbocharged AWD cheap sportscars, so I'll pick the most stylish.

STi, but a peanut-eye/Teardrop in traditional WR Blue Mica rather than the MY11. If only I had the $32,880 for the one down at the local dealership...

The way I've seen it is that the Evo is the sharper track tool but the STi isn't that far off and it's more comfortable. As a daily driver, because that's what I'd use it for, I'd pick the STi in a heartbeat.

Generally I'd pick an STi. I can't make myself like the Evo X, though I don't like the 2008 STI hatch much better. 2011 STI sedan is awesome, but my favorite is probably a 2006.

Meh, for what the R32 cost at the time, only those who hated subaru/mitsubishi interiors(and hated japanese cars/only liked german cars) bought the R32. Style has nothing to do with it since that gen Golf didn't have much of it.

I agree 100%, but in GT5, i dont know if its just me but the 10' STi seems heavier than the evo...just saying in game the evo is my choice but in the real would the Boxer is my choice
