Ex-Pantera Guitarist, "Dimebag" Darrel Abbott, Dead.Music

I'm glad the person who did this got shot too. I hope the bastard suffered.

Pantera are one of my fave bands, this is tragic, not just for the death of dime bag, but the other people too.

As I stated in one of my first replies in here, is the guitar pick from Dimebag when I was at one of their shows a few years ago.

This just doesn't make any sense. Why would a fan try to kill the band members? He obviously had some mental problems.

It's sad to see someone go shoot such a great lead guitarist like Dimebag just because "He broke up Pantera". That's what the shooter said when he SNUCK UP from behind and shot him in the head.
This was his motive apparently(sp).

Wow. I can't believe something like this is happening again. I'm sure the anniversary of John Lennon gave this idiot ideas. This entire incident is jut to scarry to think or talk about. Enough, already.

RIP DB.

Wow, I just heard about this on the news, what a tragedy, and it seems so random. But, at least on the plus side, the dick who did this is now dead thanks to a quick witted police officer, and I will probably listen to some Pantera in the near future, since I have never heard their music before.

Darrell was an absolute legend in the metal community. He was one of those guys you could see as an old rockstar like Johnny Cash had become, although in another genre. I can't think of anyone who had reported meeting him that didn't immediately like him. He was a lovable, gregarious guy that didn't have the dark, brooding metal posturing.
To me, this was a lot worse than loosing Cobain.

That sucks dude,

"This sucks more than anything that has ever sucked befored" -Butthead on "Beavis and Butthead do America"

Pantera rules!

RIP Darrel "Dimebag" Abbot

For me, this is my worst loss in the Music industry. He was my favourite guitarist, from my favourite band. Michael K summed up how everyone in the Metal Community feels. Darrell Abbott was, and still is, one of the biggest Metal musicians to grace the earth.

I've been playing Pantera non-stop ever since I heard about this yesterday, even in class. He inspired so many of your newer Metal bands. Just look through the last couple of pages on Blabbermouth.net. Everyone is devastated.

I'm very eagerly awaiting Phil's comment. I believe this rivalry between Phil and the Abbotts was hyped a lot, but he does have the tendency to say the wrong thing.

Dimebag Darrell was one of the nicest people on the planet, and he lived and breathed music. It's only fair that he died by his guitar, but as one commented, he shouldn't have died by a shooting: "He deserved to die due to alcohol, rather than a bullet." It was such a malicious shooting. He wasn't even aware up until the point where he died, the guy just snuck up behind him and shot him while he was still playing. Vinnie (his brother) jumped up from behind the drums in shock. This is Metal's worst loss, even worse to me than Randy Rhoads, as this was a malicious killing.

Also to confirm, the singer or Vinnie (drummer) were not harmed, and they are both still alive. No other band members were harmed. The people killed were Darrell, 2 fans, 1 stage hand and a bodyguard. 1 other fan was critically injured, while another copped a bullet, but is not in a life-threatening condition. 2 other people were treated for minor injuries.

The assailant, identified as 25-year-old Nathan Gale of nearby Marysville, charged the stage, taking aim at Abbott with a silver pistol. After shooting the musician--known as "Dimebag" or "Dime" by fans--several times at point-blank range, he then began firing into the crowd before a police officer arriving on the scene shot Gale to death.

Also among the dead were two fans, Nathan Bray and Erin Halk. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the fifth victim pending notification of next of kin nor the seven others who were wounded in the attack, some of whom remain in critical condition.

Nothing we don't already know, except for the gunman's name really.

I honestly have never met a nicer person in my life. No matter what was going on Dimebag never ever seemed to get mad. If you want to see how nice of a person and how incredible he was as a guitar player then I highly suggest the Pantera 3 Video "Watch it Go" This video is one of the best rock videos I have ever seen. You will laugh your butt off and get extremely pumped too. It showes everything from road trips, live concerts, Vinnie winning drummer of the year award, Dimebag winning guitar player of the year award, comedy stuff they did for entertainment, and it shows the production of "5 Minutes Alone" and "Broken" The 5 minutes alone video is just friggen awesome!
Anyway get this video on VHS or however you can and I guarantee you will love it and you will more than likely crank your TV or stereo as loud as it will go!! 👍
Jimmy your Dimebg sig is awesome! 👍

I was trying to record a couple of his greatest rifs and post them but for some reason they end up HUGE. Unless I record them as a video but then they will still be quite large.

I especially like the guitars at the beginning of No Good (Attack the Radical) 👍. Almost every song that he did has a great riff in.

Since I have been listening for almost 6 hours now I forgot how dang good their Cowboy's From Hell album is. WOW I might have to put that 2nd on my list of their best albums. :)
Top 3 favorites
1. Far beyond Driven
2. Cowboys From Hell
3. The Great Southern Treandkill

My Favourites in order of all Studio Albums post-fame.

1. Vulgar Display of Power
2. Far Beyond Driven and Cowboys From Hell (Tie)
4. Great Southern Trendkill
5. Reinventing The Steel

Mouth For War is their best song, but there are SO MANY other great songs. There's not a song I don't like on the first 3 albums. I only dislike a couple n Great Southern Trendkill. All of the Reinventing The Steel songs are alright, some are good.

There will never be another band to match the quality of Pantera. I hope Phil gets himself together and they play a memorial gig together, but noone could replace Dimebag on guitar. :(

i have to admit i never listened to any pantera stuff, but after i heard the news about this tragedy i listened to some of their stuff! and to my surprise i think its great! what a loss of a great guitarist some of his solo's are phoenomenal!

That damn coward did almost the same thing as John Lennon's killer.

Dimebag shot and killed on the 8th December 2004.
John Lennon was also shot and killed on the 8th of December.
Razzle from Hanoi Rocks was also killed on the 8th of December, in a car crash, by Vince Neil of Motley Crue. What car was Vince driving? A PANTERA...

bizarre.

That's certainly strange. Reminds me of the US President Assassination coincidences that went around ages ago.

Also, nice memorial. Thanks.
