Hello everyone, I have a question after some months of playing GT6.
I say in advance that I have the option for automatic installation activated.

In some situations, the BD player of the console seems to work too much.
In some races, I can clearly hear the lens going fast here and there, for all the time I drive.
Seems that the console has to load continuosly data from disc.
In other tracks, it does not happen.
I don't remember exactly the tracks, but I'm sure that SPA causes hard work for the BD lens.

For the online, the lens always work a lot in every situation.

I thought that for some races the data that needs to be loaded is too much, so che console loads it step by step...
The only other game that I played and caused so much work for the BD player was Heavy Rain.

Anyone has the same "issue"? Is that normal?

It's normal, I think. GT6 saves data from the disc, hence why the gamedata file keeps growing in size. So if you've already driven a certain track, data's saved to the HDD, and then there's no need to get the data off the disc again, so the lense can relax. 👍

Another possibility that might be a factor even after you have ran the track and cars several times would be if you don;t have enough free space on the HDD

I think it installs tracks and cars as you use them, this could explain it perhaps,

I raced ALL the tracks, so I suppose they're installed.
It happens EVERY time I drive on specific tracks, even if I have already driven.

I have about 80GB left free

It pisses me off too, I got pretty fast SSD installed and the dumb game keeps reading from the DVD.

My game does run the disc a fair bit. It is not related to drive space as I have a 500GB PS3 and I have, probably, over 450GB left (I only have GT5, GT6 and one music album installed on it). I play GT5 and GT6 every day and, while GT6 works the disc pretty well, the amount is a significantly less than with GT5.

It's the opposite for me: GT5 reads the disc much more less than GT6

For a full (or what seems to be) install, you're game data should be around 9-10 gigs. Mine is 9858MB and I can fairly say I have little to no disk read noise. I actually get more noise from some other games, GT6 actually runs quiet.

For those with the noise, check the size of your game data. If It's under 9gigs, you're not fully installed. To become "fully" installed, just leave your game on for a few hours - as the demo plays, it'll install the game.

I can confirm that racing at SPA causes the most work for the disk
I'll try to let the game play the demo and see if it installs anything new

GT6 streams music and in some case of larger tracks (ns,bathurst...) ,also tracks off the disc , even when "fully" installed .

If you want to put less stress to the bR unit , delete music playlists for race and menu > galery>music> playlists> race music playlist / menu music playlist. This way you will disable music streaming (note: setting up music to 0 in menus ,will only mute music ).

Alternative would be that you select your own music from hd ,for race and menus. This also disables music streaming from bR.

If you want to "hurry up" installation , go in to dealership and then open/look every car and wait at that screen for 2-3 seconds. If car is not yet installed , you'll hear bR disc seeking data and installs it on hd . Otherwise GT installs car data "on the fly", whenever new car is used by user or AI. That's why after some time ,races boots much quicker ,because all the car data is on hd.

It's kind of poor programming, Uncharted series demand lots of CPU and GPU power yet they don't require any kind of HDD installation and the loading times are almost non-existent.
