Hi guys :)

I was just talking to ShigeT, developer of the outrageously ridiculously awesome Frex FFB Sim wheel, and he made a post saying the follwing:

Hi isamu,

Playstation company had been changed the peripheral policy recently that to be open and
supply development sources to peripheral's manufacture so we are asking to them about

*SimWHEEL (Wheel, Pedal, Sequential shifter, Handbrake)
*Hshifter
*SimConBASE(Tachometer)
*SimConMOTION
*SimConMETER

why not with XBOX360
Please tell me where or who we can ask about it.

Thank you.

This means there is a good chance you'll be able to buy a Frex wheel with official PS3 support! Exciting news for SURE!! 👍

frex is insane! i just looked it up for a while DUDE 2,000 WITH NO PEDDLES? wtf? find me a nice shifter to go with it and stuff then 2,000 is ok but just a wheel give me a break.

I'd be all over the frex wheel if it was multi system compatible

Just the news I've been waiting for. This and GT5, I'd sell a kidney for the combination.
But wouldn't Frexwheel already work on PS3 since like the G25, it's FFB is from Immersion Tech? Which is probably be the reason why it would never work on the current 360.

Pingwhen.... as an owner of the wheel, T-R-U-S-T me dude, it's well worth the money! I am playing GT Legends right now, and even though the force feedback is only average, it still feels remarkable in that sim. There is NO friction or grindy feeling that the Logitech g25 has, no backlash, no dead center, nothing. Just smooth FFB all the way 'round. Plus the pedals aren't even that expensive and he might even offer a Wheel/Pedal/Shifter package deal once it's ready for PS3.

myke6699,

It's a driver issue bro. I already tried it on my PS3 with no luck. All he has to do is get permission from Sony and instructions on how to make a driver for PS3, and he'll be good to gabble :)

By the way, check out SimRacing Tonight's review of the Frex wheel

Sounds like you are describing the Fanatec FFB wheels with that description... I would love a Frex wheel sure it´s great for sure but apart from even more speed not much to ask for. I can live without a real momo wheel

But really cool anyway for you Frex owners if you can get it working with the PS 3 :).

Frex is best:lol:

I would buy one of these as the service is second to none by a long shot, not to mention the build quality. Sure it's a lot to fork out, but I've spent way more than half that on a number of wheels over 12 years and I'll be up for another wheel soon enough, as the DFP is nearly 5 years old and showing signs of wear, that cannot warrant a "makeover".

Frex offers spares also, so an upgrade over the years will even out over a period of time, and having a higher quality piece of equipment.

Great news isamu:tup:

if i wasnt 20 this would def be on my to get list. if they could make it ps3 compatable, h gate shifter, nice pedals. i am all for this one day, but it will take a new job, and some hefty over time to even be able to get this passed the wife.

The fact that you can have MOMO (or Sparco or any aftermarket wheel) wheel for both street racing and then change a smaller wheel for F1 sim is what so great about frexwheel. The only misgiving I have about the Fanatec (besides that it's a Porsche wheel which I can't get past if I were to be sim driving a Ferrari) is the size of the wheel.

Yes, I really wish Fanatec produced a "generic" wheel. As I have commented previously, I really don't understand the appeal of a "branded" sim wheel - it doesn't make any sense to me to drive a virtual non-Porsche with a Porsche wheel, & even less sense for Fanatec to pay Porsche for the privilege.

I really don't like the RS wheel for F1CE - it's just feels all wrong & switching everything around (if you 're using a cockpit) to play a different game , is a major hassle.

On the other hand, $2,000 is way too much for a sim wheel IMO.

Remeber that fanatec is marketed especially to XBOX 360 players. And it is pretty gansta to have porsche badge:) (just kidding i am also 360 and ps3 player )

If i now had a dying need for frex kind of a wheel, i would buy fanatec and mod it. With you 2000 you could have four backup fanatecs and 5 aftermarket real car wheel options at least.

I've marked the things I'm most interested in red!

First I need to win Euro Millions, and then I can order everything from FREX (only the things that I'm interested in).

FREX is an overkill for anyone else than hardcore sim racer or real driver who uses it as a part of practice rig.

If you prefer to mod an existing wheel, G25 not Fanatec is more appropriate for that. There's a lof aftermarket mod from new power supply, new motor (that would increase the FFB power). In order to put a bigger wheel, you literally need a more robust motor/belt setup or else it wouldn't last long. Besides, I much rather pay for one well made product than 5 mass produced wheel which btw by the time you finish the mod would end costing more than the Frex.

I may sound like elitist but to me it's also the way the wheel is built and how it looks- it wouldn't be out of place if it were being displayed at MOMA (right next to the PASGT M88 Kevlar helmet).

the size of your wallet doesn´t determine if you are a hardcore simracer or not :D I am sure there is tons of people with gamepads or whatever that race more then I do with my "elite cockpit" and all. For me they are the real hardcore enthusiasts that doesn´t need all these gadgets ;)

As for moddable the Fanatec wheels are certainly not built to be moddable. Frex wheel you have to mod it to change steering lock last time I checked so it´s made to be moddable. There is some insidesimracing review where they show the whole procedure... A million parts you are supposed to assemble yourself :)

There is mods for the G25 that puts it in the same price range as the Frex FFB wheel. that goes for dual belt drive. But the force feedback I was told was still similar just stronger and probably smoother due to the belt drives of course. Should still be way slower than the Frex wheel for example unless they put the ffb engines in overdrive.

Impossible to say what I would preferr without trying them.
But as for back up wheels no it´s not the same. Much better to have one wheel that never wears out if you like it of course.

As for build for me it just has to feel rock solid. If I look at it it should look like it would hold for a million years but it don´t have to be esthetic. It´s a plus of course but while I race I seldom notice the wheel much I just feel it.

These setups come complete and are over $15000 AUD each.

With Frex wheel, pedals shifter and screen total package comes in under those others, and IMO is a far superior product.

It really comes down to budget v desire balance.

For 15 grand I'd buy a sports car and take it to Eastern Creek instead.

Unfortunately in the short term you would spend that again in fuel, tyres, and track time leases. This is the reason why Sim/ Virtual has become an affordable way to go racing.

I've had my plastic DFP for 4-5 years, a full Frex package, I would hope last me the rest of my life.

I suppose the value could be there if you look at it like that but the real thing would be much more enjoyable for short term than the Frex wheel for long term.

Exactly. I hate when people say stuff like "I could buy a real car for $2500 and go race it myself".

Get real people! You are not going to get anything worth squat for $2500 for real life driving. What the hell kind of sport car are you going to buy for $2500 other than a steaming pile of junk? A used 1980 Ford Mustang? A 1972 Chevy Corvette? Yeah umm, have with that.

Virtual racing yields MUCHmore ROI for racing enjoyment than racing in real life in the long term. Not to mention the fact that you don't have to leave the house and deal with being stuck in traffic for 1hr just to get to the race track. Yeah, that's real fun

Even cheaper with just normal G25 or Fanatec wheel and iRacing. I would save 15 k..

is there any update on if the Motion is going to be included in GT??

is it right that you would just need to add the Simcon Motion to an existing frame (which is using a G25) and you have a full force feedback unit... for the AUD3k it seems really quite reasonable...

I must have missed something... I thought these were 10K +...

As with any USB wheel, except xbox360-only wheel, the Frex Simwheel will work right out of the box with PS3 and GT5. The problem, though, is similar to Fanatec wheel or even G25/G27 in GT5P in that it's not fully supported/compatible. Apparently the latest news from Shinge is that if GT5 doesn't support the Simwheel:

"I will tell you how to modify our simwheel to GT5 compatible if
they do not officially support FREX when they release it."

And if anyone has $1900 kicking around, here's a good deal on a Frex Simwheel. What you will get (in parentheses is the latest listed price on Frex website) :

SimWHEEL Set $2,130.46
QuickRELEASE Set $416.52
QR Wheel Side $306.40
Shift+ $143.63
WheelBOX+ $88.57 x2 (for 2 quick release set)
The spare part cost more than $300
