Exhaust systems and the effects they have on the engine noise

Hi I wanted to know if there is any definitive rules for applying exhaust systems to cars with v8's (69 Camaro Z/28, Corvette Zo6 etc) without messing up the sound. I hear alot of people saying use sport, others say leave the stock system alone. Any tips?
 
I've found semi-racing generally sounds the best on V8's. Your best bet is to buy all of them and compare for yourself. 👍
 
A lot of the times a racing exhaust makes a nice sounding car like a Ferrari California sound like a screeching tin can full of rocks. PD did a horrible job on some of the cars, wrecking the sound with upgraded parts.
 
The sports exhaust usually sounds best. But, like VTiRoj said, best way is to buy all of them and try each.
 
Man even when I tune my cars I leave the exhaust stock. My worst experience is the LFA, IMO THE best sound in the game.

I'm still wondering why the awesome banshee roar from the LFA was switched to a gurggling electronic keyboard sound. Unless I got a bad update.
 
Personally i dont like exhaust upgrades, most just sound horrible. I agree to buy all of them and find the best sounding one you enjoy. For me i say leave stock also because on my older muscle cars when you upgrade mufflers they sound like rice burners tin can rattling mufflers and im sorry thats just not acceptable. Not trying to start an argument that's just my opinion.

Huh? Dont know what you mean, I mean I agree GT never really had any passion in their sounds, they are so mechanical (not good mechanical), it is all sooooo CASIO, but by that standard I thought that LFA V10 was melodious.

+1. Upgraded my 430S to Race Exhaust & good god. :crazy::yuck:
 
In GT5, as in real life, a full racing exhaust sometimes turns your car into a screeching mess. This is because racing exhausts are buzzy, annoying things which do nothing to remove irritating resonances and pitches.

Which is why if you enjoy the sound, it's best to stick to a Sports Exhaust or a stock exhaust and call it a day.

Before the latest update, the LFA had an amazing stock banshee roar at high RPM, but after the update, it seems they changed it into a seemingly (as you put it) CASIO keyboard sound effect.

I don't know if its the same with everyone else, but it has changed for my game. :(
 
I just left my Ferrari 458 exhaust alone as well as my Audi R8 V8 after I tuned them because I knew that adding custom exhausts would ruin the sound

it's like a game of craps, roll the dice and find out. i can tell you the 69 z/28 with the race exhaust sounds good. on the other hand the C6 Z06, C6 ZR1, '10 Camaro SS and every other LSX Chevy in game sound like absolute garbage with the race exhaust. For some reason i really wasn't surprised they sound like 2JZ's.
 
On most of the cars in GT5, I buy the titanium exhaust and if that sounds rubbish, which is about 7 out of 10 times it does, I work my way down until I find one that sounds like the engine that should be in the car. There is one or two V8s that sound good with the titanium, I think the Shelby GT350 is one of them.
 
The main problem is with keeping standard exhausts that you have to keep standard transmissions as well because overwise the transmission whines over the exhaust sound.

For example, I went and bought all three aftermarket exhausts, entered a course and then without quitting it i change the pipes through the tuning on the lobby, but that never changed the sound for me, just the horsepower.

But if i quit the course, change the exhaust trough tuning on the main screen and re-enter the track, the sound change.

Quite boring and slow, does this happen to you all too?

The challenger SRT8 goes from sounding like a hemi to a ricer when you add the titanium exhaust.

Use the car demo run in the showroom to check the different exhaust sounds.
 
Yeah, exhaust mods are hit and miss. I'm annoyed as I wanted my Cappucino to sound like this...

Anywho, is anyone else disappointed that the exhaust manifold ( / "headers") upgrade does nothing for the sound? Slapping a straight exhaust on a 350Z with the stock manifolds should make it sound like a tank! That is, as opposed to using some proper "long tubes"...

For some cars, turbocharging changes the exhaust sound, so why not the manifold for NA applications?

Then there's the intake mods. :grumpy:


Anyway, since GT2 the "best" exhaust for most cars was usually the semi-racing, for some reason. Although I agree that some cars are better off with full-racing or sports... or even stock. :guilty:
 
It is complete garbage how the titanium racing exhaust ruins the sounds of most cars. Even the semi-racing too. Who at PD heard the ZR-1 or the C63 AMG with tho's exhausts and said, yeah, that sounds like the real thing?
 
The Ford GT, F430 Scud, and McLaren F1 are the only cars I have found to sound good with titanium exhaust. Especially the Ford GT. It sounds like an absolute monster... it even has a lope at idle. As far as other V8's go, semi-racing sounds the best IMO. I'll just leave them stock a lot of the times though.
 
Nothing destroys engine sound like the "Fully" customizable transmission. Nothing. All you can hear on every car you add it to is WHHHIIIIINNNNE. I would really like to know what transmission in the world is so loud that it can entirely drown out a 980 hp V12 with a racing exhaust.

It is by far the worst sound engineering -fail- in GT5. IMO even worse than the sound loop in the UCD, because at least you can mute the TV while shopping.

I hate the whine too. I don't install it unless I have to. I know straight cut gears are loud,but:crazy:
