Expand the GTP Store

Hey. I noticed you have an Amazon Associates account/store on the site. I have used this program on some of my sites before, and it is excellent. I reccomend expanding the store (its not hard), and advertising it on the forums...maybe offer special status names to those who buy stuff.

It seems like a good way to support the site.
Here's an old Star Wars site I did a while ago that I used a store on:

Yes, I am a member of Amazon's Associate program. I recently got an email from them the other day about new, dynamic ads which really looked great. I'll probably be adding them in the next day or so. :D

I mean there are really some ways to boost income with it...encouraging members to purchase thing such as strategy guides, t-shirts, etc. could really help you.

Presenting it in a nice way could also really help.

Like "Buy Stuff Here, NOW, or I start reducing post counts!" Just kidding...

..maybe a reward system might help entise people to shop there.

Yeah that's what I said in the first post of this thread--- people could get special credit, status, or privleges for buying from GTP.

Exactly! I think it's a very viable idea.

I just don't know how I will be able to confirm who buys what at the store, though... :(

Hmmm....there has gotta be some way. You could have them order it through you, but that can be a hassle.
Yeah, and I don't want the responsibility of handling credit card numbers on my server. :nervous: Hmmm...

Jordan, ask a "impotant" person at amazon to send you proof that somebody from your site bought something. :)

but how would they know there from your site??? :(

Yeah, I'll just type up an email to Jeff (Amazon's CEO) and see if he can help me out. :D

They keep track of who visits Amazon via GTPlanet by using a special referrer ID. For example, here's the link to buy Gran Turismo 3: . See that "gtplanet-20" on the end? That just signals their database that GTPlanet's account has sent them another visitor, and it also alerts the server to keep track of them everywhere else they go on the site for the rest of their visit. And then, obviously, it knows who to give credit to when someone makes a purchase! :)

I know I know, Im smart. Nobody has to tell me.(Just Kidding) Well Im glad i could help out Jordan. :) (I think I did  )

Why don't you you make it so that when someone clicks to buy something, it goes to a form field in which they type their screen name and password. This way only they can do it (b/c no one else knows the password) and you'll know who bought it.

After they fill out the form (itll just take 5 sec) then you go through the Amazon and they buy it.

Wouldn't that work?

Yeah, this would be better, but I don't know exactly how to write the form so that it checks the username and password to the database. And then there's still a chance someone will go to Amazon, but there won't be any way of knowing what they bought, or if they even bought anything at all. :(

Although it sounds easy, it is very complicated, especially if you're not a PHP guru (like myself, unfortunately). :(
