Hi all Gtfans,

These days are great moments in our Gaming Lifes ! GT5 is gonna officielly be released tomorrow 24th november 2010. What are your expectations concerning GT5 sales ? will it exceed those huge sales numbers of GT1, GT2, GT3 or GT4 ?

These are the sales numbers of previous GT titles :

Gran Turismo 1 : 10.85 (million copies)
Gran Turismo 2 : 9.37 (million copies)
Gran Turismo 3 : 14.89 (million copies)
Gran Turismo 4 : 11.06 (million copies)

source : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gran_Turismo_(series)

in these figures, we see clearly that the most successful GT game was GT3 with almost 15 million copies sold worldwide ! could GT5 be as successful ?

Personally I expect 10 million copies of GT5 will be sold worldwide by fall 2011, by december 2010 they could sell up to 6 million copies which is a huge number ! the GT3 sales are exceptional due to the title being an early exclusive ps3 title, not the case for GT5...

I will keep this thread updated with any new info on GT5 sales, please share with us any new info on this subject.

I predict about 15.8 million copies.

Only for the simple fact of the strategic marketing of the street date for Black Friday. These things are going to sell like hot cakes on Friday.

I see them selling more than 12 million copies.

They already have the fans from all of the previous titles and now from word of mouth they have a new generation of fans(maybe those who have yet to play a Gran Turismo Game).

I can see big figures in the future for this game.👍

Imagine how many people had pirate copies of the other GT games as those systems were much easier to hack. 15-18 million I guess.

While i wish GT5 will be the best selling GT ever , i doubt it will happen .
Simply because not as many people own a ps3 compared to ps2 consoles back in the day of GT3 .

Grtz , Horch

9 Million is my guess.

1 Week - 2,275,000
USA - 600,000
EMEAA - 1,200,000
Japan - 475,000

1 Month - 4,000,000
USA - 1,000,000
EMEAA - 2,300,000
Japan - 700,000

Life-Time - 9,500,000

Mmm, hotcakes. Anyways, about GT5. I think the game is going to sell more than any previous GT game because it has something that none of the other main GT games has had. That would be the online multiplayer and community aspects. The ability to race with other people over the internet seems like it will be a major draw what with how popular online games are these days. My professional(unprofessional) estimate for GT5 sales is anywhere between 10 and 14 million. :sly:

Seeing as this is a GT fan board, and most people here will be incredibly optimistic, l humbly suggest gt5 will sell anywhere from 16 to 87 septillion copies.

I Predict 13 million life .. hopefully more ...

cause the better it sells the better the chance that this time PD may higher more people to help them with future gt games..

and man do they need it 120 people staff is just not gonna cut it .. this isn't 1997 where you only needed about 50 people to make gt1

todays gt game's are more advance and require more attention to detail and a staff of only 120 is not enough

in a perfect world future gt games should have around 350 people working on it

:nervous:

My guess is about 10 million. The install base for the PS3 isn't close to the PS2. I'm sure GT5 will sell some consoles, but not that many. With all the hubbub the past few days I'm starting to wonder whether its worth buying a PS3 for GT5 or just spending the $500AUD on a couple of new monitors and a new GPU to run an awesome 3 monitor set up. There's probably others thinking a similar thing.

I was thinking about that earlier, everyone was bitching about how fast Forza came out compared to GT5. That's because dan greenwald (******** btw) has à team of 400 people On it. If PD had such à crew, it would be releasing 2 years earlier every time, and all cars would be premium. More tracks as well, i expect the crew to double within à year

Over 1 million copies in 24 hours/week. over 5 million next year, probably by march 2011.

I see the novelty in this but what's the real point other than a mines bigger than yours contest?

We all know that sales numbers do not equate to quality necessarily so other than bashing another game over the head with sales numbers as evidence of something they aren't evidence of, why the speculation?

BTW as for PDs sales page, isn't that number PD has shipped (ie sold to retailers) and thus includes all copies still sitting on shelves somewhere?

PD have their own sales page.

http://www.polyphony.co.jp/english/list.html

Wiki looks to be sourced from the PD page recently. vgchartz is a joke.

I agree it is, but the people over there are in the know about sales (some of them) and would have a much better idea of sales then the average user on this site.

For instance most people on this site probably don't realise just how badly the PS3 is doing in NA compared to the Xbox 360. People like to dismiss this and say that NA doesn't matter for GT5 because GT is big in europe, but it does, NA is still the biggest market for games and if America isn't interested in buying GT5 then it will most definitely hurt it's total sales.

I forget this discrepency sometimes... In the states I finnd it far more common that people know or care little about GT5... even in Best Buy and Walmart I find the video game workers barely recognize the name let alone any details.

Well NPD over the last 4 years has shown how bad the PS3 is doing in America. vgchartz just guess on typical trends of past games and update much later with real info when released. NPD has stopped posting the results recently though.

So no need for vgchartz as NPD and Polyphony Digital have the real info. Now you most likely have to wait for an annual report.

Europe sales are hard to catalogue. There's an attempt to track them but it's only small at the moment

Media create has the real info on Japan sales, not vgchartz.

Way too many gleefully optimistic people here. I do agree with the fact that many people bought a PS3 only because this game was exclusively made for it but I can't imagine that number being the majority.

The fact is that the PS3 has barely moved any units compared to the PS2. In order to get the kind of sales people here are predicting 1 in 4 PS3 owners would have to have a copy of GT5. While I would not be surprised if the number was that high in EMEA but here in the US I predict much lower ratio as many a casual GT3/GT4 fan has been stolen by the cheaper xbox360 and forza franchise.

I say if we hit 6-7m sales by 2011 that's doing well. That said I also predict residual sales to keep going up until PD announces a GT6 release date.

-really what is most important is profitability and not units. How much margin are they making on each sale? That is the magic number and really it will be hard to say for sure.

PS2 sales approx 147 million
PS3 sales approx 42 million

Says it all, really.

Plus, in gaming in general, there has been a move away from more detailed, more realistic, sim based games.

The strive for realism turns off the average punter. PC flight sims are the best comparison. The quest for realism makes it harder to play - harder to play will satisfy a dwindling pool of hardcore users that have the aptitude and the time. As that pool dwindles, so do sales, revenue and development investment for the next installment. It's a vicious circle.

its will sell 10 million by the end of 2011... The Gran Turismo brand is famous for its legs. it will keep on selling until the PS3 dies.

WRONG, when Gt came out on Ps2 the install base was only around 70-80 mill. GT always sells, and history has shown install base will not change that, Gt5 will easily sell truck loads, as all others have.

First day sales will be poor in comparison. In the UK anyhow. No advertisement nothing.
Only the hardcore know it's being released today, many people don't know it's coming out.

That explains why It has been the top seller for pre-orders for several weeks. Every game store I have talked to has been flooded with calls about the game.
