Good luck Jordan!,I hope it all go's well:tup:
But i don't know what i'll do without my daily dose of GTP:confused:

Tommi2000:D

p.s I hopefully will get Premium in the near future:)

Good luck with the move Jordan. We all appreciate your efforts in keeping this site up and running and giving the GT community a place to chat about our favourite racing series.

Awesome! I've got just one question though: will GTP still look the same or will it get a new design?

:-)

Best of luck Jordan. By the way, you're starting to talk more like an IT Consultant with every passing Announcement!

Good luck with the transfer, anyway I hope we will get some new features to play with, when the transfer is complete, because I love the smell of new things.

Oh for gods sake, this site is becoming worse everyday. The server downtime is becoming rediculous. I pay premium and I expect Premium service. I expect compensation.

:D

Good luck with the move Jordan.

God, don’t let Pupik see that—he’ll try to sell you a Lexus.

Sounds like a good step forward. :)
Best of luck Jordan... looking forward to the switch.

Good luck with the move, Jordan. If you need any help I work for beer.

Funny, the IT guys in my company just say, "We are aware of the problem and will fix it as time allows." "As time allows" can mean anything from a few minutes to a month later, depending on whether it got the attention of executive management or not.

Hey that sounds fun Jordan. So where is this server? I mean, my cousin has a server in his closet for his buddies. Is it that sort of server--for gaming--or is it different?
Nope, definitely not that sort of server. :) I will never physically see or touch the box - it's under heavy lock and key in a New York data center.

Good luck with the move, Jordan. The current setup sounds ridiculously dangerous for a dedicated server. Kinda surprised we weren’t already using RAID 1, to be honest…
No kidding! It's been out of my price range, until now. That's why I'm so thankful for the Premium support!

How long does this sort of transition take in real terms. I know problems will arise, and their timescales cannot be anticipated, but roughly, on a scale of hours/days what are we looking at?
The forums will hopefully not be offline for more than 12 hours, and if you switch your DNS servers to OpenDNS (as I recommend in my first post), it could be even faster.

But it never is though is it?!!

I'll see you in a few days! :p

Good luck Jordan, please don't take GTP away for too long. I'll get widthdrawal symptoms.

I might actually have to talk to the missus. :scared:

So no more database errors? :D

Good luck with the move Jordan, I guess it's kinda like giving GTP open-heart surgery to make it faseer and more powerful

For non premium users, the ads are there to help Jordan to pay for the site. By buying Premium, you will no longer have to deal with ads

You could also get a certain Firefox add on...

Sssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

The only way to remove ads is to pay Jordan $500. :D

Hopefully there won't be any complications (are we having surgery or transferring data? ) and we'll see GTP back up soon.

I'm happy to hear the good news Jordan. I'd have to say you've made the perfect decision here as GT5P will probably bring some new members to the site as well. 👍
And GT5... Well I can't really imagine what that will bring. I just think back to the boom of GT4 and can't help but think our members list will grow to well over 150,000 before the end of '08 (probably more depending on how GT5's online structure works out).

Hope everything goes well. Maybe I should get premium?

"Love it" +rep. 👍
 Great picture reply.

Best of Luck Jordan. I wish that I can donate towards GTP but I don't know how much 20 dollars will get me.

proud to be a premium member if it helps out with something that sounds so complicated to a simply english lass!

as i have no clue what a DNS server is or how to change it, could someone please explain that to me :nervous: i am female and really only understand the press and go technique, which works perfectly well for gtp!
anyone who really knows me understands that i usually have to be told everything twice, so make sure that the information really is step by step with every minor detail covered! :dopey:

Good Luck with the move 👍

It's OK if you don't feel comfortable with something like that - 99.9999% of all GTP users won't change anything, and it really won't make a bit of a difference. :)

I added the primary one as an alternate address and I might make it primary after GTP goes down.

maybe this site will help you.:)

Can't wait! :sly: Thanks Jordan for keeping the site up to date with the latest kit to keep things running smoothly! Can we expect the new GTP to surface soon after the changeover?

Glad my occassional dabbles in Premium helped contribute abit... Im thinking of doing it for the 3rd time soon when I can spare some cash, I dont really have enough to do a full year...

Anywho, keep up the good work 👍

Robin :)

Thanks Jordan! I myself have been a lurker without much reason to post until recently. But even when lurking GTP was a huge resource for me. Because I'm so new I'm not really sure I'd visit enough to justify a premium membership, but I still feel guilty :) Three cheers for redundant storage!

And by the way, thanks for the recommendation for OpenDNS. I really like the service; I hope they're making a profit.

Post attachments are now going to be temporarily disabled so that I can move them to the new server. They will be re-enabled as soon as the move has been completed.

If you can see this, you're viewing the site on our new server! :) Please let me know if you see anything out of the ordinary as you explore the site.
