Extra Parking

Has anyone ever rented a storage unit, or outdoor storage space for a second car that they use on a regular basis? I recently asked for some car suggestions and as expected I got many miata/E30/S2000 suggestions, because that's really want I want, but I also need a hatchback/practicalness.

It looks like I can rent parking/storage for $50-100/month which means I could potentially get an NA Miata and a cheap economy beater/DD that would hold my dog and get good fuel economy.

Anyone have experience with this?
 
I assume you're in a city or somewhere else where you can't just park on your property? Spending that much to store a cheap car sounds kinda high otherwise. A friend of mine was renting a storage unit for his CRX/S2000/Jeep (different car at different times). Worked well for him since it was just a block from his house.
 
Haha, I was going to address that but figured he doesn't consider the Miata to be practical enough.

Ha, yeah. My dog won't fit in a miata though. I need a hatch/wagon of sorts, and AWD would be nice as the curvy mountain road we live on gets a fair amount of snow and can be pretty dicey.

Yep, we only have 2 parking spaces at our place and no property/land/space to park it otherwise. $50/month doesn't seem too bad aside from the hassle of having to go there and swap cars once or twice a week.

Maybe I just need to learn to enjoy my hatchback and keep it simple.

No RS around these parts sadly and the STI is well over my price range.

My parents live nearby my office so I may be able to talk them into letting me keep a car there. Otherwise I may just get an EK or Focus or something like that.
