I'm curious as to how Black is going to handle the implications set out by THE AVENGERS. Kevin Feige has said that IRON MAN 3 will see Tony Stark cut off from the rest of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers, but we now know that there are aliens and magic within the universe. I don't think that's something that can be easily ignored, but at the same time, I don't think it's something that can be easily addressed.

It shows Pepper Potts in one of the Iron Man suits!
 
I believe that, in some issues of the comics:
Pepper did use an Iron Man suit, adopting the name "Rescue" because she chose to take part in rescue missions instead of fights.
 
That actually has me even more interrested in this movie. I thought that was quite awesome. 👍
 
Apparently China is getting its own special edition of the film, with additional exclusive content. It looks like studios have figured out a way to get the Chinese to agree to show their films - give them stuff that the rest of the world doesn't get.
 
I was lucky to see it in synchro with the UK premiere last night and it was awesome. Some really great action, a great twist and lots of laughs as well.

My only criticism, there weren't as many flash cars in it!

I wasn't aware people went to see IRON MAN for the cars. Are you sure you weren't expecting to see FAST AND FURIOUS 6 instead?

I enjoy Iron Man movies partly for the destruction of exotic cars in often comical manners, yes.
 
That's an oddly-specific moment, considering it only happens in about one scene.
 
I saw the film today.

In a nutshell, it was okay. It is probably better at being IRON MAN 2 than it is at being IRON MAN 3. And by that, I mean it goes back and tries to do a few things IRON MAN 2 did, and does them considerably better. So if you watch IRON MAN and then IRON MAN 3, it's pretty solid. However, when the film is re-doing things that IRON MAN 2 did, it doesn't feel like anything new, which is the same over-arching problem IRON MAN 2 had.

Also, the plot was non existant. The themes were great, and there's one running gag that is executed perfectly, but the story is completely forgettable.
 
Just got back from seeing IM Three

I agree about the story being forgettable. VFX are what expect from new movies and they were excellent. I'll say, I have heard some people say Cap'n America didn't do it for them because too much story of the Red White & Blue. That was part of the set up to lead to the Avengers. I'm thinking that's what IM Three is.
 
I think that part of the problem is that Shane Black only got half the plot right.

The problem IM3 had to tackle was THE AVENGERS. The existence of the wider Marvel universe - with aliens and gods and what-have-you - blew out the scope of the world within the film. The question becomes, how do you deal with that? The temptation would be there to make something bigger and bolder to top the events of THE AVENGERS, and I think that is a mistake. Shane Black got it right in that he decided to take a step in the opposite direction to make Tony Stark more vulnerable. But that's the only thing he got right.

The problem with the film's third act is that is just degenerates into superhero cliches. Killian abducted Pepper, but the villain kidnapping the hero's girlfriend is overdone. SPIDERMAN did it three times in three films. There's certainly potential to explore here; Stark is pretty much the only (mainstream) superhero who makes no secret of his secret identity. How he addresses the issue of putting Pepper in danger by virtue of having a relationship with her offers up some interesting material to work with, but IM3 just goes by the numbers.

And the whole thing about abducting the president didn't make too much sense, either. It seemed like an afterthought.
 
Hmm haven't really heard any positive feedback anywhere about this film so I might just wait and rent it. I really didn't expect much from it anyway.

Having seen it,I enjoyed it alot .Best Marvel standalone super hero movie yet.

Watched it last night, also enjoyed it very much. I still think the first Iron Man to be the best of the super hero movies, but this one comes close. I find the whole backstory of the Mandarin one of the best and most innovative screenwriting one can find in this genre. All else is a bit of a deja vu (as expected, one can only reinvent the wheel a few times), especially the Buddy Pine / Syndrome arch.

I'm interested, where haven't you heard really positive reviews? It's constantly praised as "the best Iron Man film" almost everywhere I've looked.

And having just seen it I'm inclined to agree with that notion wholeheartedly.
 
Will be seeing this tomorrow afternoon! The Iron Man Movies are the only superhero movies I have ever left not wanting to wait for the next one. They are not meant to be "serious" movies. They are meant to be entertaining. And if all else fails, Pepper Potts in an IM suit will be more than entertaining.

Not sure if I can wait until tomorrow. Might have to go see it tonight.

Agreed, really enjoyed Ben Kingsley's performance.

RDjr held his own also (like he always does to be honest)

Anyone seeing it tomorrow there is a scene after the (massively long credits) but you might aswell see it on YouTube .

I thought the movie was kind of meh. Too many plot holes.
 
It's kind of hard to have plot holes when you don't have a plot.
 
Exactly. That's what I mean. An entertaining watch, but nothing to think about when it's done.

Also, Rebecca Hall could get some of this.

Trying to ponder as maturely as possible here:
If Stephanie Szostak's character didn't go all ape-turd on Tony and he was able to work that charm, then if he breaks her hymen does it turn to hot lava and explode the bedroom?

Igor is not the Hulkbuster, if that's what you meant.

And it was only holding up the crane so Tony could try and get to Pepper before she fell. Which happened anyway. Unless you're talking about the President, in which case he was already rescued and shot off into the air with Rhodey.

Enjoyable for what it was.....entertainment, but I disliked how the element of the Mandarin was handled. Overall, it was a disappointment for me, as I expected too much from it.

I can definitely understand the disappointment there, especially after having it built up so much. It struck me by surprise as well. However, the portrayal was entirely accurate to the Ultimate Iron Man's Mandarin - which was a fictional character. I'm not saying that makes it better nor am I saying I liked it, but there was rhythm to it's reasoning.
 
Simple film, simple jokes and simple action. A solid film that made me smile throughout in a trilogy of very reasonable films.

It doesn't stand up so well when you start picking it apart but I enjoyed myself watching it and that's the basic thing any film should strive to achieve.
The fact that I even have to commend a film simply for being enjoyable is sad but still, surprisingly very few films seem to achieve this lately.

I don't think anyone will ever claim these films were the best films ever, but I think they did the job to provide solid and enjoyable experiences and represent Iron Man in film form.

If we compare this trilogy to the Nolan-Batman trilogy, I think the Iron Man films have all been consistently good. Whereas personally for me the Dark Knight Rises is pretty poor.
I think I'm basically trying to say that I was not disappointed with these films and that is an achievement these days!
