A buddy of mine brought over his new Ford F-150 today and he let me take it for a spin. Wow was I impressed with it in everyway. The power and the comfort was outstanding. I didn't really get on the gas to much since it was snowing, but I did stand on it getting on the freeway.

The road noise wasn't noticable at all, I guess the commercials don't lie.

The suspension was really nice to, barley felt any of the Michigan suck ass roads. I've never been in a truck that rode like that before.

We even took it down some pretty bad roads today with the snow and all. It handled them great, we only used the 4WD once. The tires clawed pretty nicely.

I can say if I were going to buy a new full sized truck I would buy a new F-150, I can't say it looks superb but still the performance of the truck is wonderful.

If anyone here is in the market for a truck by all mean go look at a new F-150!

If I had to buy a truck, it would be a lightning, but even then, I would be hard pressed to do so. My brother has an F150, v8, 2WD...I didnt find it all that impressive, but my first car was also an explorer. I like the GM trucks quite a bit better than fords, but the new ones are looking good, and have been getting good reviews.

I haven't gotten a chance to drive the new redesigned Silverado. I'm a GM guy, but what Ford was able to make surprised the hell outta me.

The new lighting should be coming out soon and that looks sweet as hell.

It really surprises me that theyre using the air boost technology (theres a cooler that makes air really cold and is then run into the engine giving a boost around 50hp, like n20) on the lightning, and not the cobra, or mach 1.

But yeh, Ford is good all around, but there isnt anything that I see them really shining in...except supercharging their engines and making them bulletproof.

The air boost thing sounds cool, I've read just a little bit about it, I'd say maybe on the 05 Mustand you'll see it.

See, I told you Fords weren't bad!
Glad you enjoyed the Test drive.👍

Well surprises happen. I never thought I'd see another good ford.

I can say if I had an extra 30 grand I'd go for one.

I dont know how to fully explain it well, but I read on MSN.com or something of the sort that in the new lightning engine, it has a special air intake thing where it makes the air really cold, then, whenever you want to, you push a button, and the engine takes up that supercooled compressed air, and everyone knows that the cooler the air, the more HP you get (to a degree). Ford said the boost is likely to be around the area of 50hp, and it will only last about 10-15 seconds, maybe less. It also takes a few minutes to refill the air for another boost. It's been a while since ive read anything about it, so quite a few things I said may be flawed. Im not sure if theyre even putting it in the new lightning, but it was in the concept.

Here ya go, this is a quote from the above link describing what it does.

Designer John Coletti’s team fit the SVT Lightning concept with an all-aluminum, 5.4-liter DOHC supercharged and intercooled V-8 engine conservatively rated at 500 horsepower and 500 foot pounds of torque. And while they were at it, they invented and patented a speed secret for those times when even that much power just isn’t enough. Ford’s patented SuperCooler technology cleverly provides a special burst of power for the SVT Lightning concept. Traditional intercoolers dissipate heat from the supercharged air by circulating coolant through a front-mounted, air-cooled radiator. With the SuperCooler system, the vehicle’s air conditioning system is used to chill a small storage tank of coolant to about 30 degrees Fahrenheit. On demand, the SuperCooler system switches the intercooler flow from its normal circulation and dumps the chilled coolant into the engine’s intercooler. In turn, the intercooler dissipates up to 20 percent more heat from the charge air – resulting in a denser air charge.

So I wasnt completely right, but the basic idea was still the same. w00t.

It's a really cool system, I wish they'd put it in more cars.

only truck i'd go for is the ram, that thing actually looks good.....for a truck, the new ford looks all girlie (no truck should be "pretty")
the F150 SVT Lightning Concept looks like a fast truck, but i'd still rather have a dodge, the one with the viper engine!!!

The 'new redesigned' Silverado was given a minor sheetmetal change that didn't even carry over to its GMC Sierra twin. For all practical purposes, it's the same as it ever was (which is much worse than the all-new F150).

Judging cars based solely on looks is so fun! All the cool twelve-year-olds are doing it!

i'm not basing my opinion only on looks, I was just giving one of many reasons, i'm not gonna sit here giving all my reasons....why so cranky?? and since I have never test driven both, I'm basing my opinion on what I DO KNOW, so settle down.... ITS MY OPINION!!!, dont like it.......too bad

I dont know about the fords but I worked at a Chevy dealer for over and year and was pleasanly surprised by the silverado's. Being able to get up to a 6.0L in the 1500's if i remember correctly. Step up to the 2500's and the biggest motor's would be either the 8.1L or the 6.6L Duramax Turbo diesel. Damn big motor+ some major gearing makes these things haul some ass for being trucks.
The SS Silverado isnt bad either.......... LOL maybe i say that cuz i was getting paid to take a brand new one and test driving it to find something wrong with it. AWD and a HO 6.0 rated at something like 340hp or something.
I personally think they look better than the dodge and ford but thats just me.

Totally off subject but something i like to tell because its just goofy. This guy that worked there has a Duramax dually that will beat a corvette Z06 down the 1/4 mile now. Thing was just plain crazy.

:odd: Go back and read what I wrote - I suggest you're the one who needs to settle down. Whatever.

I have a video were a F-350 turbo deisle runs an 11.4 quater and smokes this rx-7 its a great site.

Not to mention once the new Lighting comes out it will own the SRT-10. Fords not giving up there fastest truck spot.

But go out and try a new F-150 it's truly a great step in engineering. As far as looks how does it look girlie? If girls like boxes then why don't all chicks drive Elements? Last time I check girlie cars are Sunfires and Escorts.

my friend has a mazda truck, basically a ford ranger. it has something like 120hp, 150ft lbs. he just bought a turbo for it. its rwd, and has a 4 banger. it should be pretty sweet. its not really a truck, haha.

:D

add any others if you like...

oh and about the truck being girlie, for a truck that is, (so not that girlie)

OH man........ please say 2nd and 3rd gen Eclipses...... not the 1st....... at least I wouldnt think they were with their old boxier look.

i highly disagree on what u said on ur last sentence. I dont belive that the F150 should be a car that u would look for. Most people buy it is because thats all they can afford, but i say "wouldnt u want to be safe if u got in a car acendent"? i mean wouldnt u want to have a car that u can feel safe in no matter what. i mean i kno if u get into a head on collsion with a honda civic DX i mean that civics done for but how about if u hit a poll or somthin in that nature. The dondge to me is a better choice becasue its more of a car that u can toy with when it comes to what u need it to do. and it comes with a upgraded moter if u pay a extra for it. can u say "hemi". but i am only choosin the dondge ram because it is a domestic car. but if i had a real choice i would have ot go for the Nissan Titan. Its like the F150 and the dodge Ram "hemi times* 2....

Because it's all they can afford? After two seconds of looking I found the cheapest new Ford F-150 to have a base MSRP of $22,010 while the cheapest Dodge Ram had a base MSRP of $17,965. And by looking at the rest of them it appears as though, except for the SRT-10(hideous), that the Dodge's are the cheaper of the two.

Ooooh, it has a Hemi! Seriously, nobody cares if it has a Hemi. The only people who do are stupid 12-16 year olds who don't even know what a Hemi is, and 60 year old men who used to drive Hemi's back when they were actually cool.

Dont the Nissan and Toyota V-8 trucks also use HEMIshperical head desings? Hemi's are nothing special.........

The new Nissan truck could be good, I haven't driven one or seen one for that matter so I won't comment.

The F-150 is a safe truck and I'll try and find that stats on it.

Hemi's blow, they were only cool back in the day, now its a marketing plot by the ever falling Dodge brand.

While I too think that the new F-150 is a good improvement, the commercials do lie to a degree. They show it going over bump strips and stuff, yet on a cirtain Autophiles show I think it was, they had this lady from Ford driving it on thier test course, and she took it on the "Powerhop hill", basically you floor it up this hill with those bump strips...the camera was running, and she was talking, and there was definately a sound that you'd expect to hear in that situation. I could see that it's quiet or quieter than most trucks out there, but it's very hard to make a viehicle so soundproof that you don't really hear anything in normal driving. And after all, noises warn drivers of mechanical problems, other drivers, and emergency vehicles and situations.

But then again I'm someone who truely enjoys the "Sounds of Speed" if you will. ;)

Ya it's the quitest truck I've ever been in, they did a good job with that. Also the ride is what there trying to promote, saying that it's smoother the most trucks and it is.

what u just have said is true but have u actually drove the car???? u probally have not even sat in it before.... i dont belive that u should u say that hes rong because how do u kno..... he may be young but still his remarks against the whole thread on the f150. the f150 is A GOOD CAR. NO DOUBT. but still u shouldnt put him down on if he is young..... but of all his choices the titan is of course the best of them all...
