Exclusive: Vivendi's all conquering F.E.A.R. will be heading onto Sony's next-gen platform!

F.E.A.R. took the PC by storm, is boldly slapping up the Xbox 360, offering further PC adventures with expansion pack Extraction Point and is now confirmed for Sony's next-gen console, the PS3, CVG can exclusively reveal today.

Following hot on the heels of the announcement of F.E.A.R. multiplayer for free, CVG's investigative reporters have learned that the mighty shooting franchise, which offers superb slow mo gun battles and pant-wetting Japanese-influenced horror, will be marching straight onto Sony's next-gen console.

No further details were forthcoming from our sources, but we'd have to hope the game would power onto the PS3 on or around the time of launch - and there's even the possibility that it might make use of the PS3's funky tilting controller for some of the game's crunching melee moves. Hopefully it'll make good use of the PS3's online capabilities too, offering PS3 owners a chance to indulge in splendid multiplayer shooting.

None of that's confirmed of course, as we're writing it wearing our hat of enormous speculation, but it swells the shooting credentials of Sony's next-gen console, joining other big hitters like Valve's Half-Life 2.

When we contacted Vivendi we were met with a firm "no comment" on F.E.A.R. PS3, still, it's exciting news indeed and we'll bring you more on the game as it shivers in.

This may have been posted in: The New PS3 topic. But I reckon F.E.A.R deserves its own topic, since it was a big hit on the PC, also I enjoyed the multiplayer mode.

Just to add, at the ESRB site it has FEAR as rated for PC, 360 and PS3. Proof that it is indeed PS3 bound?

I reckon the PS3 version will be able to rival a SLi PC setup playing F.E.A.R with no problems.

Bah, FEAR isn't all it's cracked up to be anyway. It's a mediocre shooter at best, that tries to win you over with flashy slow mo effects.

I completely agree. WHen this comes out for the xbox360 I will be RENTING it for the achievements. I played it on my PC on the highest settings and it is extremely over rated. The slow motion is very cool but the gameplay is severly linear. It also was creepy and a little scary at points which is a good thing.
A good rental but not worth buying IMO.

Those screens look basically the same as the PC version.

Anyway, I tried to patch my copy of F.E.A.R today but it said the patch was only for the English version or something? Mine is the English version. Anyone got any ideas as to what I can do?

EDIT: Don't worry, I got it now.

They are PS3 screens, because here is a link to where I got them from: http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6155911.html?tag=latestnews;title;2

Plus the PS3 version is better looking I reckon.

I'd say the 360 version looks better in those particular shots, but those could be a selection of the better-looking ones.

Those are multi-platform screens, though. I saw them about a week ago, those exact screens, posted as Xbox360 screens.

The ONLY thing that makes FEAR look awesome is the shadows. Since FEAR uses dark levels, the shadows are more notable. I must say, the FEAR shadows ARE awesome, but I can't see why everyone thinks it is the benchmark for today's PC's. I have a fairly mid-grade gaming PC and I can run it maxed out with everything on it's highest setting at 1280x1024x32 with minimal framerate issues.

Also, those screens look way worse than the PC version. WAY worse. Note the particle density in the last shot. It's just a cloud of 2D sprite smoke.

No screenies have been released from PS3 hardware. They just ANNOUNCED the game, there is absolutely NO way that they've finished it up. I'm willing to say that the screens you've seen are taken from a PC build, just for the sake of media.

Europe feels the F.E.A.R. early

Europeans will be able to face up to their F.E.A.R. on April 20, four days earlier than their US counterparts. The supernatural first-person shooter, already released on the Xbox 360 and PC, and now due to be released shortly on the PlayStation 3, will feature exclusive content for Sony's new machine, including an extra level and weapon.

Senior producer at Sierra, Rob Loftus, commented, "You'll get to see what happened to the Special Force Operational Detachment squad that the F.E.A.R. team is trying to locate in the original storyline...basically the incident that was the trigger for the events of F.E.A.R."

There will also be multiplayer support for up to 16 players, and an "Instant Action Mode" which will add a new arcade style of play using the PlayStation Network to track player progress via leaderboards. Loftus added that downloadable content might also be coming "depending on the demand."
