F1 car purchase unlock - anybody else notice this?

Well, this may be old news, and call me an idiot if you all want (isn't it sad to have to write a lead-in like that?), but I noticed something last night that blew me away! Oh, and I couldn't find a reference to it here...

As I mentioned in a previous post, I'm working on the "perfect" garage, or at least one that was arrayed in as concise a manner as possible. Of course, having come up with this idea at around the time I hit 50%, there were a number of prize cars from the can't-be-bought-or-traded-and-can-only-be-won-once camp which were unfortunately going to be stuck where they were (CLK Touring...), as well as cerain models I was going to have to face the mind-numbing tedium of reracing the same endurance event over and over for...

Yesterday, I tried something I'd tried about once a week since I got this lamebrained garage idea: I tried to purchase one of these cars by trading... and it worked!!!

So, I tried to purchase evreything, and found I can: F1 cars, GT-One Race, Speed 12, Tommy Kaira freakin' ZZII, you name it - everything but the Porsche 911.

Now, I'm not crazy. I know I'd tried it before and couldn't do it... I still can't purchase the same cars at the dealer, for those which appear there, so it's gotta be intentional...

Maybe a function of 80% completion? I just broke 80 on Friday, I'm now at 84,3%.

Of course, this means that if you have the cash, and you're obsessed enough, you can stock your pantry with 200 CLK Touring cars or ZZIIs.

Enjoy.

Yup! The price of the car is 4 times the "value" if sold. or maybe 2... I'm pretty sure it is 4x though. I am also working on the perfect garage and started from 0% doing it. All of the win-able road cars are organized by manufacturer  It's tedious but I hope to have a full and organized garage. I REALLY hope you can organize the cars in GT4!!!

Oh, and BTW it is idiotic to think that saying things at the begining of your post is going to keep people from saying idiotic things. Just let them...

I've known this for a long time now. No big deal. Perhaps what you don't know is you can buy a car with full upgrades, and still pay the original price for it. Try this.

If you have a car that you plan to upgrade completely from a game that is on memory card one, do so and save the game on memory card two. Reload game from memory card one, then go to trade with the cars on memory card two and buy the car you just completely upgraded and saved on memory card two.
Depending on the car, you can save a lot of money.

You can also help a friend out who just got the game or has started over by buying a car that costs less than 18,000 credits, buying full upgrades, then trading it to him on his memory card. Now he can buy a fully upgraded car for only 18,000 credits. You can do the same for yourself if you start over and have two memory cards.

Well, I knew about trading cars with full upgrades (and all the tires); I've been doing that since the start, and I've also been using multiple-memory-card saves for racking up all the prize cars for series races, which I trade back to myself with full tuner parts added. I would periodically save my game to different mem cards so I could sell all cars and get a big pool of money, then use that to upgrade cars and so on... You know the tricks, right? I'm pleased to say that I came up with most of those save techniques on my own, though they're nothing new or beyond the well-known tricks currently in vogue...

What got me - and it's the reason why I posted this thread - is I'd figured that if a car couldn't be bought or traded (i.e.: the full value appears as ---- when you look at it in Trade view, as opposed to it's 1/4-full-price value as seen in your own garage view, ex: 875,000 Cr. for the F/094/S), then it would NEVER become buy-able or trade-able. I never thought I'd be able to trade cash for an F/094/S, and I can now.

Does anybody know why/when this happens? This is interesting for folks I saw in another thread who were complaining that they'd like to see something like this happen in GT4, as they were tired of cars they really liked, but which could only be picked up once in the whole game, and never again, i.e.: Vanquish...

Yeah, one other thing: this little fact can make the "perfect garage" business a lot less difficult... You don't need to bother actually acquiring cars in the proper order, just play through to 100%, racking up all the cars you really want, in whatever order they arrive, saving as much cash as possible, then just trade everything back to yourself in the order you want. My current car value (I have 178) is somewhere just short of 75,000,000 Cr., and I've got 25,000,000 in the bank. Add to that the 18,750,000 I'll get for selling them all before I buy them back, and I'm actually over halfway to being able to do it already. Huge waste of cash, but what else is it for in this game?

Uh... Actually... Don't you get a billion for hitting 100%?

So, why am I killing myself doing it the long way?

No. You don't get a billion for hitting 100% Someone has been lying to you.

I've been doing this with a garage too.

I wanted another Sprinter Trueno Shigeno Edition but noticed that there was no way to get another one.

So I started over & began collecting all the cars that you can never get again. BTW there are 14 of them. I did this so that I could buy these cars whenever I wanted.

But it seemed like a waste of a memory card to only have 14 cars on there. So I started collecting all the cars that you cannot buy. I also got some of the ones that you can buy, but they're in colors that you can't buy. Now I am up to over 60 cars with an average value of $867,000 or something like that. I also have every color that the Vanquish comes in.

Now I have to start collecting the different colors of:
Nismo 400R
Nismo Skyline GT-R S-tune
TRD Celica
Spoon Civic
All the LM Cars
Camaro Race Car
F-1's
Spoon & Mugen S2000's
etc., etc., etc.

Building a garage like this takes a lot of work. And I've found that if you want it organized, it also takes A TON OF MONEY !!! I've spent a lot of time running in the Amateur European Championship winning the Vertigo for money.

Yeah, a lot of work and money. If I think of the time I spent racing "Roadster" Endurance over and over just so I could get that stupid Mazda Miasma in bloody Mica Merlot... Never got it either!

If I'd just raced however it felt comfortable, acquired random prize cars, squirreled away all my money and basically just known I would eventually be able to purchase absolutely any car I wanted, I would have finished the game weeks ago and had sufficient cash to buy back every single car I had in what I deemed to be an appropriate order... Bollocks!

I'm still debating the order I want, though. I'd originally done it somewhat country-then-manufacturer-then-interest... So I'd had S2000s just below NSX's, and I tended to keep light roadsters together, that sort of thing... Problem was, among more "important" car-producing countries (notably Japan), manufacturers would get all hodge-podge, whilst German cars, for example, would be neatly categorized by manufacturer, as they were much easier to do so with.

Debating this one now - it will require some thought, yes?

Ummm...Why not just sort your garage by Make? or by power, or any of the other options?

Not to sound demeaning, but isn't it kind of pointless if you can sort by name, Make, power, drivetrain, mileage...?

AO

Yeah, Xport would be nice, or something like it, but I'm a Mac User, which means that I've willingly sacrificed my ability to flow with the masses in exchange for practicality, design, reliability and actual performance.

Flame war!

Well, that and I work with sound, and I can't run evil-evil-evil Windows anyway... Still, gonna miss out on DX2...

As for sorting, it's a nice idea, but they seemed to lack a standard where naming of cars was concerned, so you can't really sort by name - you get a mess. By manufacturer just gives you messy lists with Honda and Ruf written down the side, and the fact is "Order Acquired" is the default, and you can't set a preference, so you have to keep sorting each time you load up.

I know my way seems unusually obsessive, anal, and even pedantic, but it makes things a whole lot easier to understand. I actually used to have to hunt for cars...

you can't buy the "unbuyable" cars in the simulation mode manufactors but u can by any cars at any time from another memory card.(You don't have to hit a certain %)

Heh, trust me Atomic, you don't want to hear how he got all his cars in order...It'd break you. :p

I think I'm already broken, seeing as I never noticed you could trade whatever you wanted...

Hey, I think maybe I just sidestepped between alternate timelines again. It happens every now and then, like:

"Hey, Mom... Where's that weird blown-glass candy dish you always had on the coffee table?"

"What dish?"

"You know, that weird, green, bubbly, Star Trek-y candy bowl ornament thing. You've had it longer than you've had me?"

"We've never had such a thing. You're losing your mind."

(... cut to two weeks later ...)

"Hey! There it is! It's back!"

"What is?"

'That stupid blown-glass bloody bowl!"

"What, that thing? But it's always been there!"

"Yeah, but... Two weeks ago... Don't you remember our conversation?"

"I think you're losing your mind."

So you see, it happens all the time. You sidestep into an alternate reality where everything is exactly the same save for some trivial detail. In this case, I can now trade cars that I never could before, and you guys all say "what's so special about that?".

Here's hoping I can sort my garage proper before I flip back

Yes, I'm delusional. But it's all in my mind and so are you, so deal with it.

Car colors is the one place I'll gladly cheat with my X-Port. I bought the thing just so I wouldn't need a separate memory card for every GT3 save I wanted, but then when I found out how easy it was to change car colors, I had to do it. GT3 Garage Editor just lets you click on a car and pick a different color.

I was getting a little pissed when I got the ugly white F094/S, then the ugly grey Impreza LM, the ugly grey FTO LM, and the ugly grey RX-7 LM. Now they're all nice colors.
:D

Yeah, or do it my way:

"Come on, black RX-7 Race Car! Come on!!!!!! Blast!!! Bile green again..."

*Grumble*
*Reload*
*Skip race*
*Hum prize money theme song*

"Come on, black RX-7 Race Car! Come on!!!!!! Be good to me!!! I control your on/off switch!!! Blast!!!"

Repeat ad nauseam... M&M Yellow ZZII, Crayola Purple NSX S-Zero... The list goes on.

Oh, but the pink Vitz is going straight to the top of my garage list, after the F1 cars and the Escudo. My little pink maraschino cherry popper car. I hated it at first, but how can you resist?

Maybe instead of the Blue Flame for 100% in GT4, we should get the Barbie Corvette...

Callaway.

I take that back.

Yeah, I did that plenty. I actually raced the last race each time so I wouldn't get a loss. Last week I spent a couple days getting 3 cars, because each one took 8 tries.

Heh. Just did the pd cup a few days ago...all black f/094s.:p

Then I just thought how much of a lucky bastard I am.:D

Well, back to the original point I was trying to make, about being able to purchase cars I never could before... My brother in law also remembers not being able to buy back his own ZZII, and he now can. He's not at 80%, though, and so he suspects it might be a function of S-License acquisition instead. Unfortunately, neither of us has a savegame from our pre-S-License era, so we can't check it to be sure. Going into a new game will give you too little money to buy restricted cars, and the Broke message supercedes the Prohibition mesage when you attempt to purchase.

At this point, I'm still mildly curious, but only just. It's enough for me that I can do it, the whys are taking a back seat. I still can't trade the 911, however.

***Speaking of locked cars, I had someone send me a mem card with the Diablo and 911 on it, but there are still a number of "available" locked cars which I think it might be neat to get my all-or-nothing paws on: Stratos-es, Team Oreca Viper, MSpec Skyline, the three redundant Vauxhalls, and the three extra useless Miasmas I can't stand either way.

So, anyone here willing to slap trade-able versions of those on a mem card for me so I can purchase them for inclusion into my current game? I will send you the mem card, and an extra incentive the details of which we can hammer out as per your desires. I'm lenient, particularly when it comes to fulfilling my anal-retentive goals.

No, I can't buy an XPort. But I can buy you one? Oooo! Whacked!

thats not true. im about 43% done, and i went to buy a trueno SS version from my friend's memory card, and it wouldnt let me buy it.

I think a more key question would be "Did you have 125,000cr to buy it with?"

:D

Bear in mind on my recently-started game, I bought a Yaris 1.5RS, in a non-buyable colour, off my second memory card to start with.

Well, that brings us back to where I said "Going into a new game will give you too little money to buy restricted cars, and the Broke message supercedes the Prohibition message when you attempt to purchase.", which basically means what you just said about having the cash to buy...

Giving pRaHjeC the benefit of the doubt that he can tell the difference between "You haven't got enough money" and "This car is not for sale", it's nice just to have some sort of corroborating evidence.

Actaully Famine, wouldn't it be 500,000 as the price tag shown in your garage is the resale value (125,000cr.)?

AO

Why yes... it would... :D

Atomic Wedgie - if you give people too little credit, you can always be pleasantly surprised... :D

So, Famine...

(BTW, I love your site...)

If anyone (you in particular) still scans this thread, I just wanted to announce that I ordered an Xport from Codejunkies. Yes, I did. I figure I can run it on my Mac with Virtual PC, though I'm fairly confident no one here has attempted such a thing to date. I'm a trailblazer... I'm confident about at least partial success, but I couldn't find an active link for the MK Garage Editor FAQ.

Anyway, my first - and so far only - priority with it is just polishing off my garage sorting - the easy way. I want to finish off the game legit and acquire my prizes fair and square, but no more winning in sequence, no more buying back cars... I'm just going to rearrange the order they appear in, and keep my faithful; dusty, old, battle-scarred and worn-out as they may be. That, and award myself the 12 hidden cars in their own proper positions. Uh, are they actually all available in the NTSC version?

Um, wait... can I even do this? Can I swap my cars between one another, or does the programme just wipe over cars in a garage with brand-new whatever-elses? Might have been useful for me to locate the FAQ, yeah?

I'll let you know how it all turns out for me with Virtual PC, if you're at all interested
