Your Driver Of The Month?

OK, so I'm a bit bored and thought hmmmm March has had 2 very contrasting races. Bahrain was full of action with a relitively low attrition. Malaysia on the other hand had a lot less action but a higher attrition rate.

So the drivers had to race 2 very different races.

Now football has "Player Of The Month" here and I thought we could use the same system here. Quite simply, vote for your "Driver Of The Month based on their actions in the Bahrain and Malaysia GP's.

Poll will end on April the 1st.
 
Many people will no doubtly say Nico, and he did have a good drive but I wouldn't place him as a "Driver of the Month". I'd say Alonso. Alonso drove well in both races and pushed when he needed. He had a problem in qualifying in Malaysia which did comprimise his race and he did start to coast and nurse the car home.

He was definately the smartest driver in both rounds and managed the car as well as being aggressive when it was required. He also scored extremely well so my vote is for Fernando Alonso.

For a brilliant drive you can't rule out Kimi's drive from the back to the podium, great drive even if he did push his car and engine to the max(which isn't so good considering the 2 race engine rule and the fact that both Bahrain and Malaysia are very harsh on engines.)
 
Alonso I'd expect to be up at the front kicking everyone's ass.

My vote though goes to an unsung hero of the Bahrain GP, Mark Webber. Nobody expected the Williams to be that good, Mark's weakness has always been consistancy in his races but in Bahrain he drove a very mature, precise drive and fully deserved 6th place.

Malaysia he done a great job in quali, as you'd expect from Webber, yes he was out qualified by his much lesser experienced teammate, but he came out ahead of him after the first 2 turns and then he kept on pestering Alonso untill he engine couldn't take it anymore.

So 2 mature drives from what used to be a very irratic driver. Good job. 👍

EDIT: Liam, you might want to actually put your vote for Alonso in the poll. ;)

I would like to see Rosberg more..he is really good. Too bad he crashed last race.

He didn't crash in Malaysia, his engine gave up. He had that little tap in the first corner at Bahrain though.
 
Its got to be Rosberg, he's fast, he's controled for a new f1 driver and he's very young (20 i think??) so i think if Nico Carries on like this there's definitely a bright future for him in F1. I'm not really expecting him to do that well this season because its his first. Its more about learning right now.

I had a long hover over the "Nico Rosberg" button, but in the end chose Takuma Sato. The fact that he's finished both races in the Super Aguri in spite of the lack of preparation and his history is remarkable, and shows a real commitment to the cause.
 
I'm reserving my vote for Rosberg when he shows his truly strongness.

For now, my vote goes for Alonso. Besides the fact he is leading the championship since a year ago (Malasia 2005), he has done the best overtaking (Schumacher) and the best start,
 
Well given that Alonso has won a race and finished 2nd in a race, I would have to say he has been the driver of the month for March. Nico Rosberg had a very good first race coming back from having to change a front nose cone; but being that his car gave up in the second race, it makes it hard to vote for him. Mark Webber is in the same boat. Kimi had the best first race out of anyone, but being punted out of the second race puts him in the boat with Nico and Webber.
 
Considering the circumstance, Nico. These were his first two races in an F1 car ever.

Even Fernando was garbage when he broke his cherry. Nico scored points, and would've scored big points had his engine not failed.

Props to Wurz, as well. Does driver of the month only count for the race pair?
 
Yuji Ide for the humour factor at Bahrain. I'm gonna go for Jensen Button, dunno he's had some solid performances so my vote goes to him.

I hovered over Nico, then Sato, but then I chose Fisichella.

Fisichella drove a good race in Bahrain despite much less power, until the car could go no more. And he drove a very measured drive in Malaysia, with only one real mistake that I noticed.

but it's about picking the drive of the month. how many more races do you need to see?

i voted for alonso. if nico had finished in malaysia, i most likely would've picked him. alonso's dominated the two races thus far. hard to vote against that.
 
The reason I didn't vote for Nico is mainly that although he was fast I knew he'd be pushing his engine to the limit, which isn't the smartest thing as they have to last 2 things. If you looked at what Mark did in Bahrain he coasted around to preserve his engine and still finished in a credible position.

Let's not mention Nico's rookie mistakes on Nick Heidfeld in Bahrain as well as his mistake by going over defensive on his OWN teammate in Malaysia. However I give him credit for admitting both of the errors.

...and Webber's engine also blew up in Malaysia, suggesting it wouldn't have mattered what Rosberg did in Bahrain, he still would have blown up.

In Fernando's defense, it was harder to score points back in 2001. Plus, Alonso was one year younger, too.

I vote for Alonso. His first race was fantastic; perfection. His second race was also fantastic. He held that car together like a champ. Plus, did some of you miss the start of that race? I think so...

I agree with you. I think some of the people that have posted on this thread have forgotten the thread is about the driver of the month for the month of March. There were only two races in the month of March and both of them have finished.

I don't think it mattered that Nico pushed his engine hard at Bahrain. Webber's engine failed also, leading one to believe there was a common problem in the Cosworth engines. Not too mention, both engines spit out all kinds of metal on failure; but from what I've heard, Nico's failure was a little more spectacular.

No, Mark Webber had a hydraulic problem.
 
I voted for Fisi, he drove brilliantly in sepang and i think he's gonna sock it to the man this year, (the man is alonso).

It's difficult to choose at the moment because I think more than one driver deserves the title (my personal humble opinion). I like Nico's driving talent. I like Kimi (because he's a natural and has bad luck every season). I always liked and don't know why, David's driving talent. Also Alonso (although he's not the "raw" talent as kimi) and maybe Nico (it's too early to tell). In this case, it's easier to tell which one I don't like. ==> Sato and Jarno
Maybe GTP members can help me choose one??? Maybe??
