Its happening!!

Check it out

I think we know what will win, but by how much is the question...

I'd say a good 7 seconds

What does GTP think?

amp88: 20+secs

Haha, yeah.

If it's a minardi, it'll come in last, but the DTM, being a mercedes, is bound to blow up somehow. Maybe if you submit that answer, they'll take you around in the F1 instead of the DTM.

 Its funny because its true!!!

I don't know much about DTM, but I do know that both DTM and F1 events are held at Hockenheim. For the 2005 DTM race, the pole position time was 1'34.648, with Hakkinen qualifying in a 1'35.697 (apparently he had brake problems). The F1 pole position time this year was a 1'14.320, and Albers put in a 1'17.519. I don't know the track layout of Zandvoort, but if it's anything like Hockenheim, the gap should be 20+ seconds.

what we need is a champ car/f1 comparo

Only track I can think of where F1 and Champ cars both run is at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. According to the official champ site, the lap record for Champ cars is a 1'18.959. The official F1 site has the F1 lap record at 1'13.622. Not really much of a contest. Of course, on an oval it would be much closer, probably at default settings the Champ car would comprehensively beat the F1 car. With a little time to set the car up, though, I doubt the F1 car would be very far behind.

Is this the cat-with-buttered-toast conundrum?

This makes no sense. You're saying that the two types of car running in their natural habitat (left-right courses, as opposed to ovals), on the same circuit is not a valid comparison? Or are you getting confused with IRL, where the racing is usually done on ovals? Or did you forget that Champ Car is now primarily a street track formula?

well, u cant compare champ car vs f1 at circuit gilles villeneuve. Champcars can change tires so they will use a softer compound which makes them faster.

The Champ cars do still run at ovals though, so they'll have the set up advantage there

Did you not read my post?

Indeed. But F1 would almost certainly opt for its rematch at Monaco or the Hungaroring, where you would expect the lighter, more aero-efficient F1 cars to hammer the ChampCars.

This would be a valid argument had the F1 cars not been 5.3 seconds a lap faster, and also had the lap record not been set in 2004, when F1 cars were allowed to change tyres.

HI!

Very Interesting.

The Track in Zandvoort is sometimes called a mini "Nordschleife". 👍

The F1 cars aren´t soooo good when the track is not "plain" enough...

So the F1 will win but the margin wil not be that big.

I would say max. 10 seconds

I don't know the track layout of Zandvoort,

1 lap = 4,307 km (2,7 miles)

In related news Minardi will be bringing there cars to Adelaide to support the V8 Supercars. :D

Of course it would. And it's getting half competetive now, I mean it's caining the Jordans in qualifying and not doing too bad in the race either.

Blake

Oh yes Minardi are certainly on the rise, which is great to see after all the mocking theyve been through since as long as i can remember.

I personally hope they secure their position as f1's 2nd slowest team.

Well next year they'll be using a rev-limited V10 and building off a (relatively) successful chassis/engine combination, it should be a good year ... unless Midland get their act together (I somehow doubt this).

Blake

And if midland dont they can call on the services of the Russian mafia....

Tbh i think we could see minardi with the number 18 and 19 cars very very soon.

Mclaren_Man
Ha minardi, the slowest car in F1, will still cane the V8's, i reckon ill go to the adelaide 500 just to see the that!
See ya there! :D Where in Adelaide are ya?

Hey Jack, DTM > V8 Super cars :p

The F1s wil win, quite easily, but it'll still be interesting to see how close the DTMs can get.
