Alain Prost ('93)

I've always thought he was one of the top 3 F1 drivers of all time (Clark and Lauda are the other 2).

If I include other racing series' then I get Tim Harvey for BTCC, Carlos Sainz for WRC, Derek Warwick, Yannick Dalmas and Mark Blundell in the 905 for Le Mans, and Alan Kulwicki for NASCAR.

Alain Prost - F1
John Cleland - BTCC
Miki Biasion - WRC
Jochen Mass/Manuel Reuter/Stanley Dickens - Le Mans
Jean-Louis Schlesser - WSPC
Emerson Fittipaldi - Indy 500/Indycar
David Brabham - British F3
Gary Brabham - British F3000
Jean Alesi - International F3000

To make this easier for people if they want more than one motorsport:

All you 1997 people have got some real exciting drivers! Villenueve, Zanardi, Stewart, Kanaan...pity you couldn't have witnessed it live (though admittedly I barely understood or appreciated it myself at the time! I do remember Villenueve's championship year though).

Nice.

F1 - Alain Prost
Indycar - Bobby Rahal, also won the Indy 500 that year
World Sportscar Championship - Derek Bell and Hans-Joachim Stuck

Not that any of it matters.

1997

F1 - Jacques Villeneuve, already covered him, a great driver.
CART - Alex Zanardi, a truly inspirational driver.
Indy Racing League - Tony Stewart, one of my favourite NASCAR drivers.
Indy Lights - Tony Kanaan, possibly the best driver never to win the Indy 500.

That's an unbelievable set of drivers, don't think there's any doubt about that. Wish I'd actually been around to witness these guys in their championship seasons!

1988 was a pretty good year for champions.

Ayrton Senna
Martin Brundle
Danny Sullivan
Rick Mears (Indy 500)
Scott Pruett
Tommy Kendall
Dick Johnson

I'm a Michael Schumacher.

It's comments like this that makes me feel old.[/QUOTE]

Seriously... I guess based on my own age, I really assumed I would get more of the Laudas, Piquets and Sennas (at the latest).
But really, an M. Schumacher?? Hell, i was in college when he won, and nearly finished at that.
Jackie Stewart was apparently soooooo long ago. The earliest champ I remember, though, was Andretti. I was young, but I knew then that I wanted to go fast.
