Purely a suggestion, and i would love to know other members opinions, but isn't it time that Facepalm pictures be banned.

The GT5 forum probably has more photos relating to facepalms than to the game itself. The joke has died and, in my books, is as bad as in before the lock posts.

Am i the only one who considers facepalms spam and therefore against the AUP?

I cannot be the only one who hates waiting for these stupid things to load whilst viewing GTplanet on a mobile device.

If anything's spam, it was the countdown thread & what car are you looking forward to driving.

The countdown one was definately spam, but at least we could ignore that. It's a little harder to ignore facepalms when they're everywhere! :yuck:

Eh, you learn to ignore it. It's only annoying when people post a facepalm simply because they disagree with someone rather than because that people did something facepalm-worthy, largely because they're trying to present their own opinion as the opinion of the forum. But doing that just makes the person posting it look like a tosser, so it all evens itself out in the end.

It really is not a problem outside of the GT5 forum. GT5 section is for most of our less 'elite' or mature members, because I never go in there I never see facepalms. In fact, I clicked on this thread wondering what facepalms you were on about as I haven't seen one in weeks, even months. (No one post one, as I know someone will).

Sure it may be a problem inside the forum, but most facepalms are there for the reason of a duplicate thread or for some dumbass asking the obvious, the cause of the facepalm is worse than the facepalm itself :).

 That's a great one.

@Topic: Actually, I never really found them annoying, but I also wouldn't care if they get banned.

I thought the countdown thread was one of the best threads in the GT5 section. It was interesting seeing what people would think off. Much better than endless speculator threads.

And isn't there a thread "Google Image search your post count"?

@Op I haven't seen one all week until this thread.

They are only annoying when people post that Star Wars guy.

Genuine mistake or just trying to make someone post another facepalm picture?

Edit: McLaren took the bait.

I don't see what the problem is. First of all, it really isn't remotely the same situation as inb4thelock posts were. Those were spam because they were by definition posts that weren't meant to have discussion value. They were posts made to mock a thread immediately before closure, made knowing that the thread was going to be locked. A facepalm pic, except in cases where they are used in a new thread that is obviously going to be locked, don't convey the same message at all.

I'd also argue the assertion in the OP that facepalm pics are just some kind of joke. Sure, the idea is originally based on a meme. However, even then the idea was that they were a sort of visual demonstration of what the poster in question is feeling. Even if the poster responds to a post only with a facepalm pic, they aren't really spam because they still convey an obvious emotion (though, obviously, words explaining the feeling should be required). It is no different from the posts that respond to something said simply by using smileys.

I don't mind so long as the pictures are small. There is a facepalm smiley of sorts. :ouch:

Personally facepalm pictures aren't facepalm pictures unless they are Captain Picard.

And finally, typing *facepalm.jpg* is probably a less intrusive method.

There was nothing interesting about it. Google a number & post whatever picture may have had those numbers in it. After the delay, people just spammed & went as far as triple posting.

It was a thread for nothing more than passing time. The only quality about is that it didn't have the mindless, beating-a-dead-horse arguments 95% of the rest of the threads had.
And isn't there a thread "Google Image search your post count"?
Yes, and it isn't posted in as nearly as much as the Countdown thread.

They are only annoying when people post that Star Wars guy.

Yeah I wouldn't say they were spam but they are annoying sometimes.

The GT5 section is probably the worst section of the entire forum, with its fights, rants, whining and etc. In my eyes, most of the posts in that section will always be spam, which is why I don't post there anymore.

I understand the annoyance especially if you've got a slow connection but where do you draw the line? Are "I see what you did there" pictures also spam? Facepalm pictures are a humorous way of saying someone has made a bit of a fool of themselves, the alternatives can be a little blunt (*sigh*, Really? Etc) which may not be your intention.

I have bookmarked a Facepalm smiley. I'll host it on imageshack if anyone wishes.
Smiley-Facepalm.gif
- Not hosted by me.
smileyfacepalmt.gif
- Hosted by me.
And it's not very intrusive :D

You is a facepalm :dopey:

*Insert facepalm picture as required...*
Please copy that sentence into a word document and take note of the green squiggly line underneath it denoting a severe grammatical failure.
;)

Is this whole thread going to have people make stuff for facepalms?
I guess it should be banned for a while 💡
