Last Thursday I woke up at 05:00 (my kid felt sick) then went to work, uni' and a few arrangements. I came home at midnight dead tired but instead off going to bed I turned on the PS3 and started driving. After about 1/2 hour I started dosing off on the long straits of la sarte and woke up every time from the bang of the crash (I still got 1st place don't know how).

After 17 years of driving I am glad I fell asleep in GT5 and not my real car :)
In real life if I feel tired I let my wife drive, If I am alone I stop at a gas station to fresh up and/or sleep for about 30 minutes.

has this happened to someone else?

It also happent to me, when me and some of my friends was driving le mans 24h. I also fell asleep on the long straits in the middle of the night... but we won :)

I also happened to know what was to fall asleep while driving - playing GT. You always wake up just before hitting the wall on the long straight with top speed.

I guess it is the same situation in the real time driving. I've never happened to find myself asleep while driving my car. So, when I feel tired, I turn down the windows, I'm listening to some music, trying to focuse on the road.... things like that.

It's good to know what it's like, coz when you find yourself in a real situation like this one, you are going to know that's better stop the car and get some sleep.

I nodded off during 9 hour Tsukuba enduro (hardly surprising) and lost about 12 laps. Luckily I was able to catch it back, driving an Elise '04 RM which to my surprise, outclassed the competition by some margin.

I wouldn't say it in any way prepares you for understanding your fatigue levels whilst driving in the real world, however.

i eyes fell shut a few times during the tsukuba 9 hours but i took a short break and pushed on :)
It is nothing like in real life but i does sort of give you a feeling when u should pull over and take a break

I was running a tire wear test at indy and fell asleep. afterwards i went back and watched the replay, it was funny you could see me falling asleep. I got sloppier and sloppier. Finally i hit the wall hard and ground to a stop, aka fell asleep :)

I fell asleep after a 39 hour grind session on the seasonals.Mostly in the Jag XJ13,GTR500 racer and Camaro Z28/Civic RM's

During the 4-hour Tsukuba and 4-hour Nur races. Also ,in GT4, I usually fell asleep when driving around the Test Course.

Tsukuba 4h for me, not for long though and I know the track so well I found I could do it with my eyes closed anyway...

I work lots and dont sleep much, combined with an ultra premium reclining itilian leather couch, I usually boot up GT5, load a race and am passed out before the track has loaded.

If I'm feeling sleepy I don't bother with racing games like GT5. However, I do sometimes have a problem with my mind half-way shutting down during races. I'm not sure why this is, but suspect it might be a result of watching the scenery and road constantly streaming at me (some sort of hypnotic sort of thing) or that if my brain feels it isn't being adequately stimulated it starts allocating functions to the subconscious, devoting less attention to it.

In real life I once was driving back from Niagara Falls after not having slept in almost two days and found myself with terrible tunnel vision, seeing just blackness all around except for a tiny window in front of me and completely incapable of focusing. Yes, that was terribly dangerous, but it was in the middle of the night with virtually no other cars (maybe one every few minutes) on the four-lane highway and I was determined to make it home.

When I was younger I would doze off playing GT1 and 2. Now if I'm that tired, I turn the PS3 off.

As a person who suffers from insomnia, I can attest to the power of this game when dozing off for a nap :)

I agree with IceMan on this. It has to be some sort of hypnotic thing, a moment where everything else around is non existent. Almost as if your actually in the car. I got hit during the Indy 500. Race was going great, just past the halfway mark and I was getting in a zone. Constant lap speeds (low-to-mid 0:33.xxx) and some drafting in my X2010, 306mph I was getting up too! Holy crap, didn't all this put a smile on my face. Then I woke up sitting on the backstretch with a running 6-minute lap. What woke me up? Not sure... perhaps it was the sudden quietness.

I've had that happen to me more than 40 times, at least, while grinding the 3 minute Lightweight K-Cup Seasonal Event. I hadn't any sleep and dozed off a minimum of 4 times per race. :grumpy: I was.

I get that too. Especially on a boring straight during a night time race. My brain gets tricked into thinking its night time and I get terrible tunnel vision.

I am a heavy sleeper (and I love it) and sometimes when Im having a couple of late night gamings, I doze off when Im waiting for a race to start. I usually have my mic on and so people in my room will sometimes hear my snoring. :dopey:

It has happened to me several times... During Indy 500 I fell asleep 2 times... During Grand Valley Enduro I went for a 30 nap at the middle of the race... and during the 4hr of Nurb. I took several naps... longest one was 35 min. long (I had a Red Bull X1 back then... = massive amount of advantage) :)

Haha I hate when u start to fall asleep and crash. I was just playing the f1 seasonals and it was so easy and the same thing that I almost fell asleep. I crashed on lap 8 but luckily woke up quick when they all passed me and managed to win by lap 10

Fell asleep during the Indy enduro. Woke up to see my car against a wall.

Secondly doesn't prepare you in any way for real world driving and tiredness. Please don't kid yourself.

I usually doze off during Bspec races. yeah when I felt like sleepy I just grind money in Bspecs.

Not during GT5, but probably during one of the earlier GTs. I don't remember ever falling asleep during an endurance, but zoning out and then crashing? Sure.

Has happened to me a few times. Last time I was at Eifel (Seasonal Events/K-Lightweight)....

Funniest moment was last year with NFS: Pro Street. Was playing a 1/4 mile drag event.... Woke up with 4:30mins in the clock and I was still at the lights.👍

Haha, yes it happens to me every night. Even on the short straights :-)

Then I know it's time to crawl off to bed.

The harder the car is to drive the less it happens, not surprisingly. Put the nannies on and I can wake up hrs later facing the barrier.
