DukeThat question is misleading! That's not the "phonetic" alphabet! It has nothing to do with pronunciation, it has to do with clarity during radio transmissions. I knew this answer, I just got waylaid by the question. I was trying to come up with some sort of pronunciation abbreviation like they give in a dictionary.
The question did specify "phonetic (or RT) alphabet".
The RT (radio telecommunication or radiotelephony) alphabet is also known as "the NATO phonetic alphabet" (see this Wikipedia article).
