hey guys, i was wondering what your opinion is on these two wheels. i know some of you own the fanatec, and nobody has the thrustmaster yet, but i want to pre order the right one.

to those of you who own and use the fanatec for GT5, are all of the adjustments avail? or even usefull? any problems at all?

and also clubsport pedals? do you love them? is it worth the extra cash?

i really like the thrustmaster in the pedal category cause you can easily change them to hanging pedals. will fanatec come out with an option for this? or will i have to customize?

thanks for all your time. hope to hear some of your opinions.

My thoughts too. Thanks for starting. Also want to know about PC compatibility with both wheels

Cheers

Already been post Thrustmaster is coming out with pc profiler later next year. So it will not be PC compatibility when it first comes out. (more likely pc profiler be out in a month or two)
The right wheel will different for different people. For example If you want a wheel for the future release Fm4 then GT2 would be the right wheel. Hardware is required (unlike PC) for a wheel to work for X360 so there almost no chance Thustmaster will compatible for X360.

Here is the deal.

So far Fanatec wheels are the best for GT5.
I own the 911 GT3 RS V2 With Clubsport. Its just like GT2 wheel minus Xbox 360 compability. The GT2/GT3RS is considered to be the best wheel, especially for GT5.

Look into this link.

Yes everything works, every button can be customized (Under DFP wheel in GT5 menu), as well Other things on the go such as Force Feedback, Wheel degree rotation, etc.

The Clubsport pedals are worth every penny. You can invert them upside down just buy removing few screws.

So far GT3 RS or GT2 Fanatec Clubsport is your best buy.

I do not know about The new Thurstmaster, wait a bit and see a review. Sim Racing Tonight should have one up pretty soon. So far on paper it sounds good.

ISR also claims GT5 is best with Gamepod with GT2 which so happen both companies are sponsors of ISR. So you want to buy Gamepod with GT2 if you want to go by ISR. If you don't have a Gamepod GT2 may not be the best wheel especially since Fanatec wheel needs to be hard mounted as their clamps sucks. :)
ISR was wrong about the Logitech wheels as well in the video. I seriously doubt they spend any more than five minutes with any wheel besides the GT2 when playing GT5.

Fanatec wheels have screw holes that can be bolted on.

Also because GT2 was better overall, deal with it.

I own DFP, G25 and GT3 RS V2 (its same wheel as GT2) and I can say Fanatec has the most real car feel, as well you can set it up on the go.

When the first did Fanatec reviews, they were not sponsored at all by Fanatec.

I own Gt3 RS V2 , G27 and DFGT and all have their advantages and disadvantages. For example DFGT has the best D-pad so I can look easily look left, right and behind quickly while Fanatec D-pad is totally useless while driving. G27 D-pad isn't moving but it's not on the wheel either. Thrustmaster also has the D-pad just the reach of the left thumb just like DFGT. I like G27 ffb (helical gears) and shifter while I like the the idea I can turn down Gt3 ffb strength as well as a much needed ffb deadzone.

Fanatec's clamps do "suck" because they aren't "idiot proof" but if one pays attention to what they are doing they should have no problem using the clamps and they are very good. I've used the clamp for quite a while before I rebuilt my rig and decided to hard mount the wheel.

I have made them work as well at first they still suck. (Velcro does help) The same how the shifter mounts to the wheel. Even ISR admits this.

My opinion:

The adjustments on the fanatec are priceless in this game. They have been so usefull in setting the wheel up to feel realistic and good. With FFB being such a subjective thing from person to person, the more adjustability the better, and frankly, GT5 has nearly none.

The fanatec is truely cross platform (ps3,pc and x360). The thrustmaster, Is not

The fanatec is cheaper for the full package IIRC

The fanatec clamp supposedly sucks, I had problems with it at first. But then I figured out how to clamp it properly and it hasnt budged an inch in the last 8 months.

Fanatec are known for high end and high quality wheels. Thrustmaster, well lets just say my jaw dropped when I heard that they were making the next GT branded device. They arent exactly known for making serious sim controllers, or even good quality toys. Im still somewhat sceptical about how good the new thrustmaster will be. Though it looks good on paper.

This is true, with all of the sponsorship and what not, ISR is very quickly losing its integrity. Fair enough they are supported by gamepod. But that doesnt change the fact that the gamepod is not that great of a rig and is a bit of an eyesore. Its kind of like a very basic mecano set with a seat really.

Oh well, their show, their audience, Its only their word that is losing its value.

It´s simple for me:
TM500 500€ without shifter
GT3 380€ with everything.

The TM500 wheel seems to be better but the buttons are not well placed. To reach the qualety of the Clubsport Pedals is going to be hard.

Without more Informations for the pedals the clutch and the wheel no one can tell!

That is why you map the buttons on Fanatec next to where your thumbs are... and skip the D pad only use it for Traction Controll Tunning.

I do remap the button with both G27 and GT3 wheels but having all the views mapped on a D-pad with the reach of my thumb is a nice feature and still have tons of button left. I was only pointing out that even DFGT has it's advantages.

That's not true at all. They created the Cougar and the Warthog, both of which are very serious sim cotrollers. The Thrustmaster Warthog is excellent.

Well everything has an advantage and disadvantage. I mean you can compare a 1990 Chevy Geo to a 2010 Murcielago. Each has it's advantage and disadvantage but some just are "more equal" than others.

Given, Perhaps I just took their sticks for granted, they do make great sticks, always have. Every wheel they have ever made has been pure piss though

One of the really strong points for the fanatec wheels is the small lcd system on the wheel and the system which allows you to configure the wheel while driving. So even if the game doesn't support your wheel really well you can still make it work.
