Hi, (first time poster but have been lurking for a long long time - without being registered)

So i was among the bunch of people to Beta test the Fanatec 911 Turbo Wheel, which was around 2008 (my memory is sketchy). It is a great wheel. I didn't have much Racing Games on the PS3 back then and waited to use it with GT5P. Apart from the Date issue it was great.

So now GT5 has finally arrived, i started playing it with the Control Pad. The wheel just wouldn't work with GT5 when the actual Driving is needed. Menu's it works fine.

So searching for a solution i found a Blog by Thomas (at Fanatec) on 911wheel.com saying in order to get the 911 Turbo Wheel to work a new Turbo S dongle is required.

Of course this is for the retail version of the wheel, mine is the Beta. Does anyone know if this Dongle will work with my wheel? What are the chances of it actually working?

I'm so sick of playing this game with a Control Pad. But at the same time, paying 47 Euros (17 of that is Shipping!!!) is a bit too much to be throwing down the drain.

Anyone have any ideas? I'd really appreciate your help on this.

Thanks,

Skykid.

Yeah, i'll be honest...i kind of had a feeling i wouldn't get any replies to this.

But anyway, for anyone who happens to Google or Forum search, i can answer that Yes!! The Porsche Turbo S Dongle does work with the Beta versions of the standard Turbo.

All buttons are mappable within GT5 options, under Logitech Driving Force Pro.

Wheel is ok, at the moment i am much faster with a Control Pad, which is disappointing. Especially as i only have the Endurance events, Grand Tour Eiger (curse you) and the AMG Academy Gold left.

Two things i noticed that are slightly weird with the Wheel....

1. The Wheel shakes quite bad on Straights at High Speeds.
2. There is hardly any Rumble when going over Rumble Strips...almost none. There is plenty of FF, i had to turn it way down.

Is that normal?

Hey Skykid,

I have the 911 Turbo wheel and just managed to squeak inside the 2 year warranty to get the Turbo S dongle no charge.

The problems you refer to:

I understand the shaking on the straights is a 'feature' hardwired into the wheel, where it automatically shakes to enhance the feeling of acceleration. I agree it's a bit over the top but it doesn't bother me too much. Having a good grip on the wheel helps.

I hadn't noticed the ripple-strip thing, but I'll have a look next time I use it (my wheel setup is out of action at the moment)

One thing I've noticed - in really fast cars (i.e. X2010 and FGT), the wheel kicks nastily every couple of seconds when going around sweeping corners (like the left-hander after the slalom section in Suzuka). It's almost put me off the track a couple of times.

Good to know of another dude out there with the same setup. 👍

1a: search function...

1. : Either set up some 10-20° Deadzone to the wheel (by PC or in the small wheel menu) and or increase your overall steering degree to 900°
2. : Activate "Simulation" Mode in the PS3 AND turn off FF in the PS3 AND turn FF and shock on the wheel to 100.

If you miss any option, a firmware upgrade of the wheel should give them to you.

More searching will turn up more answers... but I have to say that something tells me I've read those complaints before!

Try some of these: http://www.worldleagueracing.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=121&t=4680

I did search, so please don't take the high and mighty card, sorry don't meant to sound like an ass...but i've been on many forums, i know how annoying it is for some to see a newbie (according to post count/registration date) starting a thread which could have been answered a lot of times. (I have been browsing the forum for many years but only just registered as i had questions).

But as is clearly shown from what i had posted in regards to the setiings i can tune on my wheel, and the settings you forwarded me to on that link you posted are totally different. I do not have Dri, ABS, Lin, dEA, SPr, dPr. The Carrera, Turbo S and newer ones do...but mine doesn't.

I have searched and searched, and when you type in for example Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo Wheel GT5 settings, you get inundated with 911 Turbo S wheel posts...it's just not as easy to find the one for my wheel. But i partly blame Fanatec for the similarity in the name.

Yeah i don't have Deadzone or the other options. Would a Firmware update work with the 'Beta' version of the 911 Turbo (not s).

Also, what needs the Firmware upgrade the USB Receiver or the Wheel? (Both?)...if the USB receiver gets an upgrade will it mess up my connection with the wheel? I've only just got this wheel working (as it's not originally supported on GT5 - only the Receiver made it so).

@jaimzthedrummer Thanks mate, i'd really appreciate it.

Yeah i have found that keeping a tighter grip on the Wheel isn't actually that bad. But it does feel weird constantly fighting these super cars...but then again i've never been as fast as they go so i wouldn't know how it's supposed to feel :)

I did a bit of Playing around with the Rumble Strips...as Slow speeds (almost crawling) the feel of Rumble is good and how i would expect it to be. But when going over them at proper speed, you hardly feel it...and it sort of makes the wheel feel really loose. Is that what you have found with yours too?

I've upped the FF on the wheel to 66, but to me the wheel seems really stiff, i've played Games with Pad's for as long as i can remember...and driving in real life i've never had a car feel stiff on me, unless it was really old and didn't have power steering :D
