Hey guys,

I’m currently thinking about upgrading my cockpit and I’m deciding between two options:
  • Fanatec ClubSport Cockpit
  • Alpine Racing TRX
I’ve tried to find a proper comparison between these two, but honestly there’s almost nothing meaningful out there. Also, I don’t really know anyone personally who has used either of them.

So I wanted to ask here:
  • Has anyone here actually used one or both of these rigs?
  • Have you seen any solid comparisons or reviews worth checking?
  • What are the real pros/cons from actual usage (not marketing)?
Would really appreciate any honest feedback

Any reasons you are not looking at 80/20 aluminum rigs and limit your choices to steel tube rigs?

Steel tube and 80/20 rigs are similary heavy, sturdy and need a lot of space. The 80/20 rigs will be a little bit more expensive (at least here in germany) but the flexibility for adjustments is worth it.

No :D
No :D

But I had a gt omega titan which is also a steel tube rig
  • (Steel) tube rigs are sturdy and can handle "almost" all direct drive wheelbases and load cell pedals (depending on how the wheelbase or pedals are mounted)
  • they are heavy compared to most playseats (and similar rigs)
  • they are large/require space (look for models with caster wheels if you don't have dedicated space for the rig)
  • not much flexibility in regards of adjustment for the wheelbase, pedals or seat height, distance, angle etc. (if you are a big or tall person this can become problematic very fast)
  • mounting peripherals is often limited to what the manufacturers supports (diy can work but is more difficult compared to 80/20 profile rigs)

Edit: also an 80/20 rig will probably be the "final" upgrade for a rig :D

Very fair question. I did look into aluminium rigs and I get why people recommend them — best rigidity, zero flex, endless adjustability.

But honestly, for me it comes down to how they look. I tried to convince myself, but I just don’t like the aesthetic. If this was a garage or dedicated room, I’d probably go that route. But this is going into my main living space, so it has to look good.

That’s why I’m looking at something like the Fanatec rig. From what I’ve heard, it’s not just clean visually, but also very solid and capable of a proper driving position.

My use case is also pretty simple:
  • GT7 only
  • Fanatec DD Extreme / Podium
  • Load cell pedals
  • No shifter, no extras, no monitor mount
So I don’t need ultimate modularity. I just need:
  • Zero flex on pedals and wheelbase
  • Solid, stable platform
  • Comfortable GT seating position (no back/joint pain)

That’s really it.

I bought my aluminum rig from Trak Racer. Their shipping and customer service leaves a lot to be desired, even more than Fanatec's which is on the up. I'd say go with Fanatec unless you really wanna be able to switch from Formula to GT seating positions with the TRX.

You know what, I’m kind of leaning towards Fanatec — mainly because I’m already in the ecosystem.

I’m running DD Extreme, Fanatec wheel, and likely going Podium pedals once they’re out and stable. So part of me just thinks it will all work nicely together, clean setup, no headaches. I only need a solid GT position anyway.

At the same time, I keep digging into TRX V2 and it clearly has a strong following. A lot of people say it’s the more “serious” or higher quality cockpit.

So honestly, feels like you can’t really go wrong with either — both look very good. Just trying to decide which direction makes more sense.

I wanted to share a bit of context on my decision process.

For me, the starting point was aesthetics. I know extrusion rigs are better — more sturdy, more flexible, and you can adjust everything exactly how you want. I’m fully aware of that.

But I just couldn’t get over how they look. For my setup, that matters, and visually they just don’t work for me.

That’s why I was leaning toward something like Fanatec or similar.

Then I came across Sabelt, and that completely changed things for me.

It ticks all the boxes. It’s probably the best-looking cockpit I’ve seen when it comes to aluminum profile. It really looks refined — not like Sim-Lab or anything similar. It’s just done in a much nicer way.

And more than anything, I really wanted the Sabelt seat.

So for me, the decision was simple: Sabelt cockpit and Sabelt seat.

Plus, I really like the idea of a real racing company moving into sim racing.
