That kind of quick response is commendable.

Just received email to say they will be sending me a new wheel and I must return the faulty wheel to them once I receive it.

Good to hear the wheels are getting replaced with such grace.

Congrats on your luck with Fanatec support, wish I could get the same response.

Fanatec support just keeps giving me the run-a-round. I've sent them four videos, done everything they have asked as well as explained the problem several times but all they do is keep telling me to do the same things I've all ready done and act as though the wheel is Ok and the problem is with me not understanding how to do an update or put the wheel in PS3 mode (both of which I know how to do.. I updated the wheel to 715, then to 721B and used the wheel on my PS3 until it stopped working).

I don't understand why it is so difficult to get Fanatec support to understand that the wheel worked for awhile but now it doesn't.

Got my wheel this afternoon! Going to wait until tomorrow before I set everything up. Had a dentist appointment, as well as 7 hours of tests! :yuck:

Not realy.

I have a lot movement in the shaft and Fanatec is not doing anything about this.

It's realy shocking that this is their idea of quality controle:

You can read about it in this topic:

.

sorry to hear that.
i have said it before - they need to stop rushing there products to market.
more alpha testing and less beta testing.
there is a very high possibility that these issues are the real reason that the wheel is currently not available.
they had stated that they ran out of stock because of the chinese holiday.
they knew in advance about the holiday - why not just increase the order amount in advance to compensate for the holiday:sly:

Crispy how is that new wheel doing and have you tried it with FM4?

FM4 just got an interesting looking DLC that includes the Audi R18

I might have to bite soon and blow the dust off of it

The R18 is released? Cool i didnt hear about that one. it will be fun to battle the peugeot in that. funny thing is that i hear this news on the same day i find out that peugeot pulled the plug on their racing division in real life... So frickin sad i cant stand it, i loved the competion between audi and peugeot. it will be a boring 24 hours this year.
REST IN PEACE: 908 HDI FAP

It's been 7 days since I last heard from and replied to Fanatec support reference the problem I am having with my CSR Elite. Are they just ignoring me or has anyone else had a wait that long? The wheel is under warranty (just received it in January).

If they don't reply what recourse do I have?

I don't think it can be corrected by firmware. I think it's something to do with the game. (Forza) I think ilonioum's case is different from the couple I've seen. The one's I've seen have been caused through Forza 4's Menu. ilonioum's happened in GT5, maybe that might be fixed by firmware.

Fanatec are trying to replicate the problem so they could make a firmware update. Last I heard was that they were still trying to get it to happen.

Seems like others are getting this to happen quite frequently, wonder how their findings are coming about.

Since I had my wheel replaced I did not have a single problem. The firmware is 721B

Started up Forza 4 today and got a message that a xbox live update was needed.

Since i had some other stuff to do, i selected update now and left the xbox with the wheel connected to do it's thing.

When i got back about 15 minutes later, the whole room smelled like electrical burn.
I was comming from the CSR Elite. I quickly turned the wheel off.

After about 2 minutes i tried to turn it on again, but it was stuck and would not make the usual calibration turns. Then i tried turning the wheel and got it loose.

Now the wheel is working again, but i do notice some cogging which wasn't there before.

Seems like Forza kinda of killed my wheel too.

Ik know it's technically not possible that Forza 4 cuased this, but on the other hand it's a very big coincidence that this happend during a dashboard update of the xbox.

One motor was certainly stuck and someting was cooking.

I am mechanic, so i recognise a electrical burn when i smell one

For now the wheel seem ok though, but i will test it later on tonight.

I know the wheel should be able to be on anytime the xbox is on, but why risk it? Xbox controllers are cheap compared to a CSR Elite wheel. I always have a controller next to me and use it for turning on the xbox, navigating menus, and only turn on my wheel when I am ready to hit the start race button. As soon as the race is over, I turn off the wheel and turn on the controller.

Maybe a little overkill, but I don't want to be without a wheel while I'm doing the email dance with Fanatec support to get my burnt up wheel replaced.

FYI- Nascar The Game 2011 was killing wheels when the game first came out. This was mainly due to being "unsupported" according to Eutechnyx. But, it did it to ANY Force Feedback Wheel, even the Microsoft Wheel.

What happened is in race, after 30 seconds or so, the wheel started to make this grinding noise, like it was chewing up the inside gears/belts. Some were moronic and continued to race on it frying their wheels. Now, that is purely user error. If that is happening, NO ONE in their right mind should continue to play on that. But, some did, and their wheels were broke.

I realize this should not be the case at all with FM4 being the CSR & Elite are supported, but, you never know. Just trying to say there is a distinct chance this is real, and not some farce.

Yep and its too bad we cant get thomas to comment on it either

I know you already understand this, but he has to tread water lightly. Not too many CEO's are as in tune with his customer base as Thomas. He releases a LOT to us up front. So, we need to respect when his team needs to do some research before he comes with an abrupt answer.

If you read HoiHman's post, it was definitely not Forza that fried his wheel. He was still at the dashboard installing an xbox update. Forza had nothing to do with it. Turn on your CSR Elite wheel, connect it to the xbox and try to turn the wheel. It has resistance so the FFB motors are definitely energized and doing something even when not in a game. That is why I only use my wheel for racing. Once I leave the race, I turn off the wheel and turn on a controller.

Raced about an hour today with my CSR Elite and everthing seems to be fine, the wheel is still smelly though.

I think that due to a suddenly cancelled initialization event due to a disconnect by the system (xbox dashboard) the motors kept running for some reason. Or at least they stayed powered on. Causing something to fry, probably the motors a bit.

So probably there needs to be a different initialization process in the firmware for calibration. Or at least it might need another look.
The T500 and G25 just simply stop when it gets disconnected by the system for example. Why this doesn't happen with the Elite is a mystery to me. If it's the for mentioned cause that is.

Update: I think I know what's going on, while the other wheels check during calibration if the system is still receiving the data correctly, the CSR Elite doesn't and thus never gets around to cancelling the last command unless power is removed via pulling the USB cable out of its socket, the power cables disconnected or the switch turned off.

(just trying to think along a bit. Maybe it'll help Thomas in his search for the cause)

It doesn't bother me that much since my wheel will be replaced by one from the batch coming in march. So i hope it will last untill then.

Still, i will probably never leave my CSR Elite on, when i'm not in the room.
