Fanatec - General Discussion

I’ve never had a bad experience with Fanatec, in part because I bare in mind that sim racing peripherals are an extremely niche market, and I calibrate my expectations accordingly

Soooo….

I’m sitting there thinking really hard about pulling the trigger on the simagic pedals and figure i’ll go look at the podiums one last time and notice closer to the bottom of the page something to the effect of; ‘mounting holes for future haptic support.’

….what the what?

And i have to ask, does that mean fanatec will release some sort of haptic product, similar to the simagics? Or if that’s just a generic mount for bass shakers, or whatever?

just looking for a generic, yeah, Fana’s working on something, or no that’s for 3rd party stuff. Figure, if Fana’s working on it the podiums might be worth buying. If not, its been so many years waiting, I’m just going to get the Simagics and move on. I’ve been using the csl’s, for far too long, waiting for a non suck haptic pedal solution, which seems as if it will never happen.

Appreciate any rumor mill, regardless of how general it may be.

They "work" in that they can be fitted to the pedals without modifying them.

You still need a way to connect them to SimHub (via a laptop or desktop PC) and then have the game speak to them.

hah, thanks. Of all the things you could have said, that might have been the least expected, lol!

Still, it would be awesome if Full Force, and therefore, ‘no pc in the middle,’ set up being possible exists down the road, it would sway me to wait for the Podium(3 pedal set). Today’s PC prices are kinda relevant to this problem as the only PC available at my place is a $400 cheapo laptop, bought a couple years ago purely to update the fanatec firmware. Not sure how it would perform with simhub. Rest of the house is Mac’s :/. So if I have to buy a window’s pc to use haptics, I’ll probably go all the way getting something capable of running iracing//ac evo etc. If that’s the case, saving $500~ on the, becomes sorta relevant.

Here’s the link which threw me last night:

But the haptics doesn't work on GT7 ??
Yes they do. Some info is still not supported by the game, like the ABS, some slip info etc, but the majority works flawlessly. Of course, you'll need a PC connected to the same network as the PS5, and you can then enjoy setting up Simhub to your liking. The possibilites are endless, road vibration, curbs, impacts, jumps, engine rpm, wheel spin, slip, lock, gear shift, even things like G force so you can set up motion sim if you want.

I feel like being in an even weirder position.

I bought a $4K+ Origin gaming PC a year and change ago. Bought Bigscreen Beyond 2 VR headset that took 9 months to arrive, and my PC sat covered until it arrived because I only really enjoy VR racing now. That began with GT7 and PSVR2. But I'm finally in the very early days of PC sim racing and VR the past two months, and all I do when I have time right now is iRacing. Spent hundreds on the majority of cars and tracks I care about already. It's been a big pill to swallow but I'm nearly 50 and stuck to console racing since it was first a thing when I was in college in the late 90s, beginning with the OG Psygnosis F1 game and then Gran Turismo and everything else.

First off, I have zero regrets about the PC and iRacing investment. It's just better in terms of driving. Not by some huge factor, but without getting into it, I'm a driver in real life. Not a pro racing driver by any means, but a driver of loads of experience and reasonable skill/talent, karting, track days ... From Day 1 in the virtual world, I have wanted the most realistic thing I can get at home. With a great PC, great VR set, and iRacing, I feel like I have that in terms of purely driving.

The weirdness is, as a lifelong GT enthusiast as well, I have so much invested in it that my brain keeps telling me to stick with console AND PC compatibility so I can play in both worlds. Which means sticking with Fanatec. I have ZERO complaints with the FFB and how the hardware drives. I knock on wood have never had the app and update problems others constantly report, right up until now with what went on last week. But the constant threat/feeling of problems isn't fun.

Long way of saying, I want the Podium pedals. I've never had a problem with my Fanatec V3s, but I hate the long throttle travel that isn't unadjustable, and I just want something new (stupid mental personal problem, I know). Despite all the forum/reddit comments saying the Podiums are overpriced, from what I see, that's arguable. Loads of folks saying these pedals should be active pedals, but I look at the Simucube prices for that tech and ... yeah, I need that to be like $2K for a total pedal set to even begin to THINK about buying that. I'm not into Moza for whatever reason.

However, PC-only gives you SO many more options for wheelbase, wheels, and pedals. Being emotionally tied to Gran Turismo is what is stopping me from unloading all my Fanatec gear and "upgrading," but I'm questioning why I don't just recognize that it has been a great 25+ years, but it's OK to move on. But it's just fun in its own way. It's a real shame after all this time that if you want to play on console, you have so few wheel/pedal options. And no, I ain't going to Logitech or Thrustmaster LOL

Pretty annoyed with fanatec right now, with the firmware update the other week my wheelbase (GT DD Pro) bricked while going over a kerb. It hasn't powered back on. Have gone through a number of steps with their support over the last week and none of them worked. On friday they started an RMA process but today rescinded that and said that they would only offer a 10% off code for a new wheelbase. It is out of warranty so I get it other than the fact that it was bad firwware it died on...

I also ended up not being able to use the code as the sale was on...

I bought a new wheelbase as I have a lot of other parts bought but am very frustreated with them.
