I think it worked BUT whe the install was done i turned off then on the wheel. reset the tuning display. When I press the buttons for what firmwire is on it I get 613?
I went to the degress of rotation setting and it only goes to 540. thought it was a 900 wheel.

must not have done the install right?

then I wonder what is going wrong. Ive tried installing it again, went well. But still displayed 613.

Could it be a wrong driver selected? Or am I not resetting the wheel properly after the instal is finished? From bootleg how do i get to standby?

EDIT

Have tried multiple times to updrade to 681. no results. Tried on xp, then windows 7. Really didnt work on 7.
Has there been these kinds of problems before upgrading or is it by my fault?
Getting GT5 midnight so ill have to live with what I got. But I am still going to be solving this problem, its just not my focus now:).
Help apprieciated

I had this same issue with my update with no apparent reason for it. However for me the answer was in the documentation that came with the software download... i used a different USB port and BAM.. worked immediately.. You may wanna give that a go and redo the procedure. I can't guarantee it will work but worked like a charm for me.

So what is that exactly?

I used a different USB port to plug my wheel into and then applied the update. It worked immediately.

Before changing USB ports i attempted the update maybe 5 or 6 times with no success.

I've used all 6 of mine.:guilty:

gutted.. the weird thing is i seem to have used everything that people say not to.. Windows 7, not specifically in administrator mode and not using XP compatability mode.. yet i have upgraded the firmware twice with no issues other than needing to change UsB ports.

Sorry i can't help any further m8.

On the found new hardware window you click next, install manually, search manually and go into the fanatec folder 681 > PWTS > usb.
Click ok
Takes a moment.
Windows open with certification not valid > continue.

Then continue with step 2.
And your done

Try like this.

and did i told : got my Se, got my SE. XD

btw in the 613 version in PS mode a setting of OFF is 900 degree support.
681 has the deadzone setting. It also has sensitivity settings in 10 degree steps as well as some other options that are not in 613.

I install the updates under XP with the USB cable and had no problems at all. Worked fine ont he first try.

alright Im taking another crack at it again tonight since I cant get GT5 till 10 a.m.

Will try the above suggestions. Also heard that this might work also. anyone want to confirm or deny?

"Submitted by n1co on Wed, 11/10/2010 - 19:56. Hi,

finally got the update to work!!! : )
Win7 > no luck
XP SP3 Compatibility mode > stuck after step 2, but it said "update complete" (but no log.txt)

Here comes the trick:
At this point (update manager in XP-SP3-Mode still running) i started cmd.exe and went into the folder with the firmware and executed the command by hand:
C:\GT3>fp.exe -i \\.\COM4 "C:\GT3\GT3RSV2_Base_boot_rev681.pw2" > log.txt
(COM4 is variable, could also be COM3, etc. look in device manager or updatemanager log)

After that, the logging in the update-prog went on and finished just fine! : )

The wheel shown now FW 681 and the new settings..."

This is a problem of mine. I dont have a log file.....

AUDI S4:

try on XP, it's saver and recommended by Fanatec,90%of problems reported are when updated on x64 system or newer windows versions.

When you're stuck again with the usb driver, do as i said in my previous post and you should be fine.

I was also asked for the drivers. Did it like i posted and no problem.
Do it with the windows window.

Thats what I have been using. Windows XP

Still no luck and now I have the wobble in the steerig wheel with faster cars on the straits. Without the firmware update im pretty much screwed right. Its the deadzone setting.

Thsi is quite frustrating. That I cant get this firmware to update

Where does it stuck whn using XP, still after step 1 with the usb drivers??

No the problem now is it says it completly updates.

"Updat Complete" will show up. How do I exit Bootloader mode on the wheel. How do I get to standby? Do I just turn it off and back on again? (thats what I have been doing)
This is where I am stuck. It says its good to go but when I look at the version of firmware on the wheel it still shows 613. :(

i think you switch it off when the update is finished. Not 100% sure though.

And now you dan't update it again. It gives you the message Update complete?

Try to catch Fanatec when he's online, he probably can help...

I never encountered that problem so I can't be futher help

Ya thats what happens to me. I always get an update complete message but it never REALLY updates the wheel itself. :/

Ill keep trying, and Ill try and catch Fanatec...No luck with their customer service. Its been almost a week and a half now. But I will be patient and persistant.

If anyone might have a solution please speak up! Ill give anything a try now. Its really sarting to bug me especially since my wheel wobbles during gameplay because of no deadzone function:grumpy::grumpy::grumpy::grumpy:

Are you seeing the PWXX_rev_XXX.zip file that it says to extract. I never have found that one. Noone I know has XP either, so I'm going to have to do this with 7. I also can't find the USB driver I need to install.
I hate when things are not plug and play.

I didnt have to extract anything. just download the firmware and install, It all should be in a zip file.
Im trying to install on XP. I would stick with that, what I hear its easier to upgrade.

Right before installing the second step there should be a promt that asks which driver to install. If you dont get this prompt use a different usb plug in on your computer than what you have been using.
Anyways when saked about the driver request, custom install. All you have to do here is locate it yourself. Find the firmware folder, follow to your wheels folder, find usb driver, select the file that is NOT a readme

The files you are talking about, are they the actual files that is the firmware? If yes then they should be in your wheels main folder where the usb driver folder and the Update Tool is located. They say something to the lines of....PWTS_Base_boot_rev681.pw1
And there is another that is identical but it ends in .pw2 These are the files that you install when you are running the fanatec install window.

Hope that helps with your problem. If your stuck look at the pics earlier in the post by me and see if you are getting the right install screens and promts...

Hi, that is simply a description of the zip file name format the actual zip file you will need to use for firmware version 681 is "PWTS_Bootloader_rev681.zip" click on this and you will find several items click on "UpdateTool.exe" and you should be go to go. I hope this helps or you have already figured it out, sorted out your wheel and are enjoying GT5!!:)

Awesome, thank you very much. This helped a lot.

What mine keeps saying is that I need to install the USB driver. Where is it? The 2 usb folders I have are just word files.
Just found this on the blog. It might help us, because it seems we are having the exact same problem. I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Another solution for Windows 7:

Start the update process as per the instructions.
After running the ‘pw1’ file, Windows will no longer recognise the wheel
and will not be able to find the relevant driver.
Open the Devices and Printers window – the wheel should be the Unknown
Device at the bottom.
Open its Properties window and select Install
Driver.
Select the driver location manually – Browse, and select the folder
containing; (it's in the 'PWTS_UE_Bootloader_rev669\usb driver' folder).
Windows will panic that it cannot verify the author; confirm that you
want to continue.
After the installation has completed you will have to restart the wheel
(in bootloader mode), and restart the update from step 1. But this time
you should be able to complete the process.

I got it to work on XP. I had to use the instructions I pasted here, but I think it would have worked on 7 also if I wouldn't have been in such a hurry. just try and install your driver in between step 1 and 2, and then be sure to wait a minute or 2.

Ill post results of my attempt tonight

How come the exhaust fan of my PWTS never turns on even when I choose the "ON" setting on Firmware 681 ? Does it mean I have a defective fan, or is the PWTS outlet fan not controllable by firmware 681 in PWTS unlike in GT2?

(PS: I know it's thread revival, I just happen to find this thread in google when I searched for the topic.)

I have a question. Can I update my PWT with PWTS firmware?

Did this ever get answered? I have the option of a cheap PWT but wonder whether I am wasting my time. Is the standard PWT payable on GT5? Or can you upgrade the firmware to set a deadzone?

Or (possibly) can you achieve the same result by getting the PWTS wireless dongle?

Any advise to this disparate set of questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Via a google search I found Thomas' original post onhis blog on the 681 firmware. The PWT wheel is not in the the list ofcompatible wheels.

The wireless dongle does not work with the PWT.

The dongle DOES work with the PWT as long as its the PWTS dongle. Its the only way to make it compatible with GT5. You cannot update the firmware for the wheel with the PWTS firmware.

Yeah I had been advised that the PWTS dongle would work with PWT. But not what it would fix. I guess what I need to know is whether the new PWTS dongle would enable me to set a deadzone on the PWT wheel - that it would seem is the crux of the matter. That would make the PWT playable on GT5.

Is that what you were referring to thehawk05?

The dongle doesn't enable any PWTS features. Just compatibility for GT5. So the PWT will still function as before.
