FYI, the Ultimate Edition firmware for the Porsche 911 Turbo S wheel is now available for download. This adds more granularity for FFB and vibration settings, and adds deadzone and steering linearity settings.

In my case the firmware updates would only work on my Windows 7 x64 system if I ran the bootloaders in XP SP3 compatibility mode. I've read on the official blog that others did not have to do this.

As always, upgrade at your own risk.

Does anyone know the proper settings from within GT5:P for the wheel. I just started using the wheel for Prologue and I have no clutch or neutral between gears on the shifter. My button mappings don't seem right. I was using the G25 before this if that helps.

You have to calibrate shifter after update.(consult manual)

I did that but it didn't seem to work. I'll try it again and see what happens. How about the clutch? I know you had to activate it by pressing the triangle button on the G25 but that doesn't appear to work on the Fanatec wheel. I've reset the wheel settings to default in game but that did nothing from what I can see.

[edit] Recalibrated the shifter and it still isn't working. So, I have no clutch and no neutral on the shifter. I've tried a handful of settings in the options and nothing seems fix the issues.

[edit 2] I believe I've fixed it, completely by chance. I decided to pop in Forza 3 to make sure the wheel wasn't broken, Forza 3 worked fine. I tried GT5:P again and it still didn't work. Out of frustration I pulled the plug on the 6 speed shifter during a race and used the paddle shifters, which were fine. I then replugged in the shifter mid race and the shifter and clutch started working. No idea what the issue was but now it works and I'm happy.

Thanks for the help!

Installed this the day it came out. Absolutely fantastic update. GT5P feels great with the PWTS now. One thing a friend recommended is turning the drift mode on, even when racing. I've got mine set at dri 2, and it helps with the feedback when you're losing traction. Strange but true.

yes the new features are very nice:) i can just keep 5 profiles road, F1, wrc, etc. instead of going into the properties to change steering lock. Only negative side-effect is my wheel's fan is stuck on :/

hi folks,
any idea how to update the wheel with mac os?
parallels and windows xp wont do any good :/

and do i have to update the dongle AND the wheel?

According to the PDF with the files only Windows will work. I'd try and barrow a laptop or something if I were you.

I have to say while I am absolutely thrilled Fanatec fixed the problem with GT5:P having the slight deadzone is annoying right now, here's hoping I get used to it soon. 👍

i have the wrong friends for sure! no one with a windows notebook around :yuck:
going to find some new friends :D

in thomas' blog is one guy, who was able to handle it via parallels + win xp.
seems i have to tweak the parallels config.

Well, if you can run Parallels, you can run Boot Camp, and when you're running Boot Camp, your Mac effectively is a PC running natively.

What version of Parallels are you running? They're up to 5 now, and with each version they improve performance and compatibility with peripherals.

i ve called some friends and one had his business notebook at home.
dongle update was a success, i assume.

but i cant get the wheel updated. after performing step1 i am not able to do anything and go to step2...

I got this firmware yesterday, it makes GT5:P soooo much better. I'm happy with the FF adjustablilty as well, it's good to be able to fine tune your steering ratio in racecars. Also 90 degrees makes it possible to drive quite well in GTA IV!

ok, after a plenty of attempts it just worked. going to test the wheel with gt5p now, which was non sense until now.
(just played fm3 so far with the wheel)

I've just updated my 'freshly delivered' wheel with this, I tried the original 613 F/W that came with it for 2 hours, then decided to upgrade, it was worth the agonising 2 weeks waiting for the thing!!!

Apart from Windows 7 64 bit throwing an exception (I can't blame fanatec for that one!!), I just used my old Laptop (Win XP), and it was a breeze!!!

I wish I'd flashed it when I opened the wheel because the extra granularity of adjustment is brilliant!!! I have my wheel feeling absolutely as I want it now!!!

I'll pop over to 911wheel.de and see if I can add a few small usability suggestions I've spotted, there are 1 or 2 tiny bits that could do with a bit of polish, and make the out the box experience that little bit easier!!

What little GT5p wobble I had (Only tried it for 30mins) has totally gone with a tiny deadband setting in the new firmware!!

Hi a question for any of you out there but particularly those of you that have upgraded to this firmware and specifically Fanatec himself. Is this still betaware? have the problems reported by some early adopters of UE669 now been resolved and the update now completely stable.

Obviously, like many of you, I would like the benefit of the complete adjust-ability of this firmware particularly the adjustable deadzone for GT5 (ideally with the option to continue to run fan as it does at the moment i.e. not constantly!) but don't want to ruin what is presently a perfectly stable wheel (firmware 613)to do so.

I had more problems with 613 than I did with either 669 (UE or not).
Why do you want fan options? if they are loud enough for you to hear I'd be emailing support.

My impression is that the updater hasn't been fixed, so to speak. If you download UE669, now I think it's the exact same package that was available earlier. What has happened is that more users have come forward with tips and suggestions to help others have a better experience updating their wheels.

If you've never updated firmware in a device before, I'd suggest holding off unless you have a technically adept friend who can help you. It's likely you'll update your wheel without issue, but if things go wrong it'll take some troubleshooting skill to avoid bricking your wheel. In my case I had issues with getting the USB driver to load during the second phase of the update. It took some troubleshooting for me to get the bootloader working reliably.

To be honest I hardly notice it and when I do its just for short time but wondered if this is simply because luckily my wheel runs cool for the majority of the time.

I kinda need some help with updating the software , i've downloaded the Pw669 ue as you others , but i've never tried to update my wheel before , I can't seem to get it in boot loader mode , can you guys help me with that , i'm not saying it can't go in boot loader mode , simply saying I don't know how to do it.

Thanks

I got the wheel into to boot loader mode , but it won't let me open the pw2 file , it needs a driver , is that the one thats in the folder i downloaded?

i got a turbo s 911 wheel

You are using windows 7???

If you experience problems with step 2 of the installation, please try to delete the file "log.txt" which comes with the package. It will be automatically generated again the next time you make the update.

If this does not help you need to manually install the USB driver. Try to change the USB port as well.

Another solution for Windows 7:

* Start the update process as per the instructions.
* After running the ‘pw1’ file, Windows will no longer recognise the wheel
and will not be able to find the relevant driver.
* Open the Devices and Printers window – the wheel should be the Unknown Device at the bottom.
* Open its Properties window and select Install Driver.
* Select the driver location manually – Browse, and select the folder containing; (it's in the 'PWTS_UE_Bootloader_rev669\usb driver' folder).
* Windows will panic that it cannot verify the author; confirm that you want to continue.
* After the installation has completed you will have to restart the wheel
(in bootloader mode), and restart the update from step 1. But this time
you should be able to complete the process.
