I am really irritated by this loud click noise that this shifter makes. So what is it that I should do to get rid of it or reduce it? I know that the sound is triggered by these two buttons that is circled in red below...

I know the cotton method may help but is there anything else that I can do?
Any tips will be appreciated. 👍

If you take the shifter out and just press the buttons with your fingers, does it make the same loud click? If so the only other option would be to solder different switches on there I think.

Yeah it still makes the same sound if I just click it with my fingers :grumpy:

Don't they use microswitches in there? I don't think there is any way to get rid of the click if that's the case.

This is what i've been aftraid of too, I need a shifter I can use after the wife and kids go to bed but I'm worried about these reports of loud clicking... I'll be following this thread

What about sound deadening material?

Could a layer of "fat-mat" other brand be cut to fit in between the two halves yet sill screw together?

Here is my attempt and it works pretty good with the help of fluffy cottons. Didn't get rid of the clicking sound but it sure made it a lot more quiet. But I am sure that there are better methods ( Like the one Stones posted up ) since this is just a cheap ghetto method.

Shifting up/downwards still is a bit loud "clicky" but huge difference than before.

I will post pictures on how to do this. But I will wait to hear what you guys think first.

If you're playing or even with headphones, you don't even notice the click to be honest. And in a rally car I'm sure there are crazy amounts of "clicking" lol.

Just don't think its that big a deal unless you're playing in absolute quiet or just playing with the shifter without playing a game, which I don't think you're doing either.

Very true, but Im not really intended to simulate the sequential shifters of those in real life. I just need it so my parents can sleep while Im playing during the nights on the weekend. Also I live in a apartment so... you can figure why I need to this :dopey:

Sometimes the "ghetto" way is the betto way to do things. Glad it worked for you, good job posting!
By the way, I wonder how much sound travels out the top opening for the stick itself, and how would you close that without impeading shift travel?

Maybe changing the shift knob with a shifter boot under the shift knob somehow?

Going by the h gate shifter:

To get the shift knob off you need take the top cap off. This will take a little prying and you will prob scratch it. At least i did, buy i was changing my knob so i was less careful.
Once you have the top cap off you will see a nut inside the shaft if the shift knob. Remove this and you can pull the shift knob up and off.

When replacing that nut make sure not to over tighten it as it is also sets the resistence.

Again, this is going off of removing the h gate shifter knob. I imagine its the same though.

I'm not sure what shifter you have but, they do come off on the CSR set. See if there's a tiny set screw on the backside of the knob. A boot sounds like a great idea on the sequential. There's a fairly good opening around that shaft and a boot would do nice for keeping out dirt. Let you know what I come up with.

I didnt think the knobs were designed to come off? That would be neat to do though, i'd like to see someone try it. (I don't own them, yet)

Well its very easy to do, quite simple really. From my experience, when changing the shift knob, get a shift knob that isn't so heavy because everytime you move it, it makes the fittings (screws that holds it into the shaft of the shifter) get loose very fast. Well in H-gate shifter wise.

On the CSR shifter set, did Fanatec actually had in mind to change the knob? I mean like as in easier then the standard Fanatec shifter?

I've replaced both knobs with real knobs and leather boots. It's in my thread . Easy to do.

Are they the ones on your Custom Vision Racer thread?

BTW this is what I did to my sequential shifter, quite simple to do.
I'll just post pictures for now.

Just today, I realized that shifting up is pressing up and shifting down is going down. I didn't really like that so I just switched the microswitches around and now shifting up is pressing down and shifting down is pressing up. Fits me much better for GT5 and Initial D Extreme Stage. :)

I've done a search of the entire forum, of threads (that I assume mayaman started) "It's in my thread ", and I can't find a thing on this. Anyone point me in the right direction?
