We've only had one rally event in the GT4 WRS, and the suggestion thread doesn't mention rally very often.
Yet, some might expect rally events and as I'm not planning yet anything on dirt, I'd like to know if I need to prepare some or not.

Voted: no, never and no way. I'm sorry but I think the rally in the GT-series is no good at all, so thanks, but no thanks :)

I voted that too. I disliked rally events in GT3, I dislike them even more in GT4. I don't know if it's more realistic but I have no fun at all when the car keeps on sliding sideways at 40 mph while I'm struggling to get some grip back on the wheels and point the front end to the approximate direction where I want it to go.

But as I said, if racers request dirt events, I'll post some, and of course they'll be as thoroughly tested as the tarmac events are.

No rally for me either.

But hey, some like it and i will simply sit out. I dont mind 👍

no also, GT is not about rally. the rally mode sucks in GT :yuck:

i have a better idea:

tarmac rally, so we can run with the rally cars, but in a normal course 👍

I really love Rallye, but I do agree that GT4 could have done better with it. Also, I suck at it. I do like the Tarmac Rallye idea though.

Nope...

But that's under the assumption you mean "Dirt" and not road. 👍

Take our rally to the road and I'm down.
I would love to see a multi-raly car selection for a nice technical course. :D

Arcade mode with minimum weight on all the rallys, then power designations to match the PWRs.

Yeah, that would be fun. :sly:

Obviously I'm all in for it. I don't know what everyone is saying about the rally being bad, I love it. I feel little difference in it from GT3, but then again I tend to adapt quickly. I say we need a change of pace, bring on the Alps!

63% against dirt races so far, which means that 37% might give it a chance.
The big problem with rallying is the lack of grip the car has on the dirt surface.
You spend too much time trying to control the car, and too few trying to improve your time. Plus you can easily touch a wall which makes the whole thing no fun at all.

I guess Swiss Alps would be the track if we ever rally, and in a low powered low weight 4WD car.
Keep on posting here what you think about it, the poll will be open for 10 days.

Dirt racing at the Alps is still very fun in my humble opinion. :D

It sure is slower than GT3, but the track at the Alps is wide enough to make you deal with the extra sliding in GT4.

So please, Cyril. Bring it on. 👍

flat-out

Isn't that a general problem, if the car doesn't suit the track? ;)

Anyway the control of the car and improvement is two sides of the same case... again in my most humble opinion. :)

No. never, and not a chance. Not on dirt. :p
I did like the dirt in GT3, but the physics of the cars have changed so much in GT4 that it's crap IMO. The rally cars have too much turbo lag, and the power comes on so quick and unpredictable, that it's just no fun at all for me. It's a shame too..... :indiff:

Tarmac rally? I'm down for that! I said it in the suggestions thread and I'll say it here. A Lancia Stratos rally car in arcade at George V is a wonderful drive. Even if the car is from the 70's, IMO it handles great!

i'm also a big no on the rally.
after playing proper rally games like CMR i just can't tollerate how bad GT's rally tracks and physics are.

What's wrong with dirt? I'm all for a Dirt Rally, or even an Ice Rally. It doesn't have to be done in a high powered rally car.

And what is a 'Tarmac Rally' exactly? Is it anything like a car on a tarmac track? There are no real tarmac rally tracks in GT4 anyway.

But the Stratos is a great drive on dirt! I vote for the Dirt!

No, never and no way here.

I find it the most frustrating races in the world, so my PS2 may not make it through to the next week.

Meh, I'd be alright with it probably, I just didn't have enough time to get to the last one... Sure it can be frustrating, but don't be scared to come out of your hole and try some dirt driving... It isn't road racing for sure, but that's the whole point... You're not supposed to have grip. I'd actually like to try some RWD rallying maybe? Dunno. I voted yes, once in a while, or whatever that one is. Although I don't really like it either, so if there was a middle option, I would've chosen that one. If the car's cool, and the track's cool, and the setup's cool, and it all works ok together, and I have time, I'll do it. Lol.

Yeah, but instead of matching the PWRs(because there still always seems to be a faster car when we do that), try drag racing them somewhere(too bad the drag strip isn't available in arcade mode) and matching them up that way. But that's too hard I guess considering there's no where to do that. Oh well, I unno. We just can't forget about the higher speeds. A bigger, more powerful car with the same power/weight ratio as a smaller, lighter car will be faster at higher speeds, or so I'd think. They'd just possibly have the capability of accelerating at the same pace at lower speeds where aerodynamics don't come into play.

Actually I'm having B-spec Bob doing part of this job for me.
He races 10 laps on the selected track, with each car I have selected, and I adjust the power to have similar total times on the practice.
I can tell you something about it : that's ****ing long to do and when I have all cars running similar times, the power to weight ratios don't match at all.

Awesome! Great thinking man, glad to hear it. Now we can have a nice well matched multiple car race, w000! I'm still up for something where the Volvo 240 maxxed out could be slightly competitive on some track, along with an open ended type of car race or something... :sly:

Hoping to see a rally again in wrs,not on Alps though...that's the worst rally track in gt4,not fun at all!

Rally?.."Bring it on!"... (:D)
Snow...Gravel..Tarmac..it's all just another form of racing and those who don't like it, don't know how to drive! (KIDDING! but I'll put on the fire-retardent suit anyway Just In Case!! LOL!)

yeah, thats actually the best idea.
When we did the Viper/vette/camaro/ford-gt @ laguana, i tested the cars with b-spec billy, and his idea about what car was the fastest was pretty-much in line with the end of week monkey evaluation.
(cept my b-boy is a bit retarded, and doesn't have good MR skills, so he was inclined to think the viper was faster than the GT by a pinch)

You know what ?
I'll let you think about this, thoroughly test several combinations, and when you've found something great just post it into the suggestion thread, I promise I'll take a close look and if it looks great, make a race out of it.
Or perhaps Patrick 'Tuff' has already a killer combo in the 240 ?

But it is not in my plans yet to give the Volvo its chance.
700+ cars on 80 tracks makes more than 56,000 possible combos.
Let's assume I can test 3 combos per day, I'll need more than 50 years to test everything. Let's be crazy and assume I can test 30 combos a day, I'll still need 5 years and my wife won't let me alive that long
So you'll probably never see the Daihatsu Sirion, the Peugeot 307, the Silvia K's...

Back on topic : the poll now shows that almost 50% wish to run on dirt while 50% won't do that. Chances are that there will be some dirt events in the WRS...

WOOHHOO!!!!! Just an FYI, I voted for the 'once in a while' because I really think its a good change of pace. I"m not asking for that many, like one every few months is all.

After a long thinking, I think there should be a race on dirt in the coming weeks.
Since I'm no dirt fan I'm expecting to read your propositions in the suggestions threads. I'll try the combos you suggest and try to make a race that has chances to gather a maximum of racers.

Bring on the Rally's, show some brass ones! At the end of the day it's still an even playing field. The GT series offers it, let's do it! The fully tuned Escudo on ice...yeah!

The fully tuned Escudo on ice...yeah!

Are you on crack or something? :D

I think if we find a well balanced, not too powerful car, and a track where it performs well on, then the idea of rallying might (mind you, might) not be too bad...
