Here is the deal. If you had squillions to spend on a car collection & no worries about garaging said collection, what Manufacturer would you choose?

No cross-badge shopping such as buying loyalty to the VW-Audi group (choosing Lamborghinis & Audis). One Manufacturer. One badge.

Personally, I think I'd choose Alfa Romeo. They essentially have a car for all purposes these days with the addition of the Stelvio SUV. It's not going to go where a Toyota Landcruiser or Land Rover will go but, I'm not really into climbing rocky, muddy mountain tracks.

Alfa Romeo could supply my want for a historic Grand Prix racers from the 1930's, 50's & 80's, classic touring cars such as the 105 'Junior' GTA & Alfetta GTV6, Sports Racing Cars like the Tipo 33 Stradale, classic & modern road cars.

What brand is your fantasy choice?

Alfa and Porsche probably would have been high on my list but I'll go for something different to make it more interesting: Renault.

They've got the fun weekend stuff totally covered: Clio V6, Sport Spider, numerous Renault Sport Meganes and Clios. Luxury is covered too, though I'm not sure I'd explore much beyond the Avantime or maybe a Safrane BiTurbo. Plenty of interesting classics to call upon, from basic Renault 4s, sporty Gordinis, to various 1980s turbocharged stuff (not least the mid-engined 5 Turbo). The sensible economical daily stuff is of course easy enough to do (the Zoe would be a good city car, or failing that a Twingo) and there are offroad/poor-weather options if required too, with cars like the Kadjar or Alaskan - though that's probably the weakest section of the lineup overall.

All that said, it's probably the first few cars I mentioned I'd end up spending the most time driving. A Clio V6 isn't too silly to avoid using daily, and nor is an Avantime - so those, paired with maybe a Zoe for shorter trips, would be ideal.

Renault of course has an enviable motorsport heritage too, across rallying, touring cars and F1 - so plenty of choice there on which to spend my squillions.

Lancia easily. Great history, prestigious rally pedigree and if I were lucky with such an unlimited budget I can throw in the grand prix cars.

The core of it would definitely be the Stratos and various forms of Deltas. 037 hiding somewhere in there too. A good chunk of their road cars aren't all that as well as modern ones (not allowed in my warehouse!) but I think the race cars and such can carry them.

It'd be a collection I would never get tired of.

Easy. Honda.

NSX, S2000, Prelude/Integra/Civic... drivetrain options are covered, they're a practical brand so every body style I could ever need is available (which also means variety in project cars, because I could never own a car and leave it stock), and they're reliable. The Acura models I'd want for comfort are all badged as Hondas in Japan.

I like Lexus so I'd probably get an early LS400 and an early IS300 or a Sportcross. But I definitely want god too which is the LFA and the LC500. I'd be happy with just this and a few other cars like the GS430 and the ISF.

Mazda. Not only do they have small fun like the Miata and Demio/2, but also have the cool dorito bois like the RX series and the Cosmo.

Between Toyota and Ford.

Both have great historical cars. Having squillions, I could do a GT40 and break it down to including a nice Mk1 Escort RS. Throwing in RS200, Cortina, Talledega, Falcon XB, etc.

Toyota have such simple cars, but they hit the feels with AE86, Sports 800 and Corona coupe all the way up to a GT-One road car.

I'd have to flip a coin. Seriously.

My gut instinct would be to go with Ford. If we are to discount high-end luxury vehicles and grand tourers I can't think of many sectors where they don't offer something exciting, from superminis to supercars. What really tipped the vote towards Ford is also the availability of exciting commercial vehicles such as The Ranger/F-150 Raptor and Transit SportVans.

Honorable mentions goes to BMW (to fill in premium segments).

Volkswagen. It's always been my favorite brand. Beetle, Transporter, Karmann Ghia, Type 3, Type 4, Thing, Golf, Scirocco, Phaeton, GTI, there's so much to choose from. Camping, off-roading, canyon carving, luxurious travel, or just commuting in a good old-fashioned Beetle.

Porsche for sure, no question.

But I made the game a little harder by asking which brand I would go with if I were restricted to that brand, which the OP doesn't appear to require. For example, if I have gazillions of dollars to spend on porsches but can also buy a toyota van out of other money, I'd go that route. But if we're not allowed to have any off-brand vehicles, it gets harder.

Porsche is still tempting, TBH. They have SUVs, how badly do I need a truck or van? But that's where Mercedes comes in, and BMW too.

I might end up choosing Mercedes.

The intention of the OP is that you are a brand loyalist & would only ever have vehicles from that brand in your possession.

If you like Posrches, you’ll have to borrow the Toyota van from someone else.
Lend them one of your Porsche collection & I’m sure they’ll be fine ;)

Yea, that's why I expanded. It wasn't quite clear enough that you can never own anything else. Mercedes has a lot of nice vehicles across the entire range.

I'll just go ahead and be blatantly bias and say Volvo. Plenty of sports sedans and wagons, cool classics like the P1800, suitable SUVs like XC90, and for off-roading the C303. Also, I could bring my Euro Truck Simulator fantasies to life and go with one of its many semi trucks. I suppose there's also the ability to get a boat as well thanks to Volvo Penta marine and a plane thanks to Volvo Aero.

Ford, I would be perfectly okay with Ford. I mean, there's the Torino, Mustang, GT40, Sierra Cosworth, Sierra Sapphire Cosworth, RS200, mk1 & 2 Escort RS2000, Escort RS Cosworth, Capri, Falcon Sprint, Aussie Falcons, Taurus SHO, Model A, Deuce Roadster, modern day Ford GT, original Thunderbird, Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, F150 Lightning, F150 Raptor, the original Bronco, and the Galaxie 500.

Wait, are racecars from the manufacture allowed too? because I have a lot of choices for those.

Mercedes have a decent van range too so you’re covered there should the need arise.

I’ve driven Trucks for the last 20 years & the best of the lot was a Volvo.
It had everything a Truckie could ever need.

If I had to own my own Truck, I’d have to reconsider my choice of Alfa Romeo & swap to Mercedes.

Absolutely race cars are allowed. You have squillions to spend & that’s in no way limited to road cars. Storage space isn’t an issue either. Go nuts.

Ok, I’m stuck between 3:
Volkswagen, Porsche or Chevrolet.
I’d be all set with a collection of classic aircooled Volkswagens with of course a few GTIs and maybe a Scirroco. The collection would definitely include pre war and wartime VWs such as the ‘38 VW KDF, Kübelwagen, Type 82E, etc. Can’t get enough of classic Volkswagens.

Aircooled Porsche’s are cousins from the early Volkswagens. Not to mention they are great fun and have a great racing heritage. If I had a Porsche collection, it would mainly consist of 356s, a Type 64, a 901, early 911s and 912s. A 718, 550, 904, and a 917k.

And if I wanted a van for practicality, I would also have a Porsche B32:

Or, I’d go with Chevrolet because I love many of the vehicles of their past. I love classic American cars. Chevrolet has many iconic examples I love. Type C ‘Classic Six’, Fleetline, Styline, Bel Air, C1 and C2 Corvettes, 409 Impala, ‘69 Camaro, Nova, Chevelle, ‘55 Nomad, and of course, I could still get my aircooled fix with a Corvair Monza or a Greenbrier. As far as race cars, they had many Trans-Am racers and Nascars.

But my gut decision says I want VW.

My heart says Jaguar but my head says Mercedes. Their is much wider range of Mercedes models and it is debatable if the pre-war Jaguar models count as the badge was SS Cars then.

Sweet! 👍

I think I'd have to choose Mercedes, simply for the breadth of metal they have made over the years.

Everyday car would be the last gen C63 AMG wagon in a muted grey.

My sports car would be a GT S in that amazing yellow.

My boulevard cruiser would be a last gen SL65 AMG in black with red leather.

My luxury car would be a last gen S65 AMG.

For trips to the city when I didn't want to damage something nice would be a W124 300E in two tone blue, with wheel trims and checked, cloth seats.

What other company has cars that can rival Porsche, BMW, Rolls, and Ford at their best.

Oh no. I've become what I always feared: the boring car enthusiast. It took me all of two seconds to come to the conclusion my choice would be Porsche.

It does seem like the easy out. But there's just so much desirable metal over the years, and more recent models like the Cayenne and Panamera broaden its appeal for everyday or you-and-friends use. Plus I get the feeling the Taycan would make a ton of sense in Toronto.

Forcing myself out of that comfort zone, my next choices would probably be BMW or Toyota:
  • BMW: The classics, the modern luxo-barge, the EV city car (and hybrid sports car), crossovers — it'd cover all the bases. E30, E39, Z4M, M Coupe, E92, E46 CSL, 2002, 328 (the original), the Batmobile, the race cars... I'm going to need a hangar, aren't I?
  • Toyota: I mean it's only one of the biggest companies in the world. So many interesting cars throughout its history, with the added bonus of the pukka off-roading stuff.
Close runner-up would be Mazda. I'm loving what it's doing right now, but it can't match the diversity of Toyota across its history.

But... Porsche doesn't really make a semi-truck. Even Tesla makes a semi-truck. Comeon!

Nissan, 100%, solely for one car:

nissan_skyline_2000gt-r_coupe_23.jpg

The R3x, S1x, Zxx ranges, March SuperTurbo, Micra 350SR, Stagea, Pulsar, SR311, R380/-II, R390, Group C cars, 240RS, the Silvia and Skyline super silhouette cars and more are just a bonus on top of the KPGC10.

Porsche of course, but that would be too easy. How about Maserati? GT cars are my favorite, and Maserati has always delivered. You have the Khamsin, Bora, Ghibi, and more modern cars like the Shamal, Quattroporte, and 3200GT. Levante if you need an SUV for some reason.

Nissan all day every day, a car for almost any situation!

Need a daily runner? Pulsar.
Need to take the kids to school? Stagea.
Need to set a mind blowing lap time? GT-R.
Need to go a little sideways? Silvia.
Need to head out rural? Navara.
Need to race in LeMans? R89C.
Need to win the 1999 BTCC? Primera.
Need a car for grandma? Tiida.
Need to appear extremely professional? Fuga.
Need to rally? 240RS.
Need to get away from the gas station? Leaf.
Need to transport way too many people? Elgrand.

And so on and so forth :D
