Me and a buddy were co oping last night and managed to take over a few towers so it looks like a fair amount of the map, though can't confirm just yet if it is the whole map. There is a tether though so you can't wander to far off but a reasonable distance is there. I tell you what though, even if we can't play the campaign with a friend, the co op that is offered is quite fun, very fun in fact.

Even if this installment reeks of Far Cry 3, I find it to be a must buy for anyone a fan of open world. The environment is breathtaking, the AI animals are always full of surprises, just because its not considered a predator doesn't mean it won't.........ahem......get in yo business . I have witnessed some things that made my jaw drop!

I've already spent about 7 hours and am still in the starting location, but I suffer from OCD so I have to do every thing along the way.

Map editor.....you sexy map editor you! Its your typical, well executed Far Cry editor we all expect, without ability to make PVP maps......but that is quite alright! At first I was upset when I heard the news but as someone who rather play co op or solo, this editor offers an infinite amount of fun, assuming the maps you play are well done. The browser does a good job though to keep the good from complete garbage.

Overall, the game offers a thriving world full of nature, hilarity and death, overwhelming amount of activities to do and a well implemented co op. Like I said earlier, yes the game is an improved FC3 but so is CoD, Assassins Creed and many other games that feel the same. 9/10

How far can you roam in the free roam section as a co-op? I know they said it was restricted while in co-op mode. But never really said how much.
You seem to be able to go anywhere you want. You can only go so far away from each other but it's a good distance. It doesn't seem like there is any restriction as far as how much of the map you can explore but we've only been on maybe 1/10 of it so far.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds really good. I watched a couple videos on my lunch break of the co-op and it looks very fun and lets you explore quite a bit together. I will pick up my paid off pre-order tonight or tomorrow. I really cant think of anything else to put the money toward this year.

@Oso Actual Do you have this for the X1? Did I add you as a friend last time we played on the X1?

The rotor system isn't powered, the only way you could do it is if there was a good sized headwind. Nothing like the videos of it taking off vertically from the ground and holding a hover.

With no wind the lack if rotor inertia makes it impossible to maintain a hover.

I've been playing 3 more recently, hopefully they've fixed the gun ranges in 4 so that you don't have to mod it to get a sniper to hit a target at 200 metres.

Absolutely, but still hovering with a few knots... but I haven't seen the FC4 implementation so I guess you're right :D

OT: In FC2 I remember the biggest frustration was clearing the road checkpoints only to find them re-stocked/re-staffed after travelling a few hundred metres away, is that something that was "fixed" (or given a little longer)?

My complaint was the guy getting into it and the rotor starts spinning. And then it takes off vertically and holds it.:p

Not that it matters, it's going to be awesome.

I have it on ps4 and yes we added each other for destiny!👍

Now that I'm going to hang on to see what happens with Assassin's Creed I may get this instead :D
If I may suggest it, pick up ROGUE if you haven't already done so. It's got a very short campaign - which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as the plot of AC II in particular bogged down in layers of the conspiracy - but it's got a compelling protagonist and each of the locations are brilliantly designed.

So after reading the replies, this happened...

So far I am truly enjoying this game. Scenery is very immersive, lush and stunning, storyline is fun and silly, and the animal interactions are wonderful. Only question...When does the co-op unlock? I played for about an hour and a half trying to get ready to play co-op with my friend, but I never unlocked co-op.

You have to get past the prologue stage, which took me around 2.5 hours. I don't want to name specific events, because spoilers.

Ok so I should focus on the "main" quest for now? It did say Prologue but I thought it was saying the prologue was complete. So easy to get side tracked in this game. :)

After a mission called Incursion, co op will unlock. Enjoy, come back and share your animal stories!

Oh yeah, if you have an ounce of OCD, like myself, you will never get stuff done lol. One minute I'm on my way to help a Golden Path member and 1 hour later I am still looking for a certain animal for crafting.....never making any progress towards my mission !

All I know is "if" I ever get everything done in this game, riding an elephant, with a bow, hunting animals is by far the greatest thing in a game, I could just do that across the map.

I take it you guys are on PC....pics look great. I will try to snapshot on PS4. I always forget about this feature.

Yes I need to craft a larger back pack asap. I am always collecting loot in games and it fills up instantly in FC4. I really like the auto drive feature. Very handy for sure. But my first priority is to get to co-op. So gotta get that Incursion mission asap. Then after that bigger back pack, or flowers, or fish, or hunt for animals, or towers, or co-op........haha

I finished up the necessary mission to unlock co-op. Turns out it was my next mission and only took a couple minutes to complete. So shortly after that my friend jumped into my game for co-op.

WOW!!!

What an incredibly fun time we had. From what I can tell you can explore dang near the entire map together. Or at least a massive portion of the map. We were riding elephants, killing people, taking over towers, killing eagles, killing fish, monkeys, running people over with cars, killing deer, flying a gyrocopter together, upgrading to carry more items, attacking alligators, attacking rhinos, and jumping elephants off of cliffs into the lake.

Just an incredible fun time. The co-op is way better than I ever imagined and ran flawless. Another feature we found out is if your partner is in the Gyrocopter, you can rappel up to the gyrocopter! At that point you can just hang and go for a ride or climb the rope and climb in. So much fun!!! 👍

Nice. Yeah, the last 2 nights me and my buddy have been spending hours hunting, upgrading our pouches. We have all of them either maxed or almost complete. Plenty to do with a partner.

So far we have the most fun doing the Assassination missions, he usually stands overwatch while I creep in and handlt the enemies with stealth.

We did get to an area where it won't let us pass until campaign progression so not sure if that is the limit for co-op. We will find out as we get further into the single player campaign. Hopefully we can still co-op in the snow areas.

Truly loving everything about this game. Played quite a few hours of co-op over the weekend and it just runs so flawless. I have actually lost track of how many epic events and moments I have run into with this game. I think I have at least 20-25 "xbox record that" moments. One moment I looked out of the corner of my eye and watched an eagle fly down from the sky, grab a goat, and fly off!!! And yes I have an xbox record that video of the event.. Such an epic game.

Only minor issue I have is I keep maxing out money and currently don't have anything to spend it on. I get to around 1 million, then max out and cant collect anything. So I just start throwing grenades and using excessive ammo just to spend money. I plan to increase my wallet but still currently wont know what to spend it on. I do loot everything so maybe I should loot less.
