Next Gen is reporting that Microsoft has waived the certification process for Perfect Dark Zero in order for enough copies of the game to be available on November 22. Over 700,000 copies of the game have been pressed without certification by Microsoft.

I believe Microsoft is making a mistake by rushing PDZ like this. Give Rare a few more weeks and send it through the certification process for a quality product, not throw it out there and hope there isn’t a bug in the code, just to get it out on launch.

We have all seen what happens to a game that is rushed to store shelves (GT2). Microsoft does not have room for mistakes.

true ... but, at least with downloadable content, they have a chance to fix it through xbl/oxm demo disks :(

I would hope that Rare does issue a patch, if problems are found, but games shouldn't be designed like that. Many PC games are released like this with bugs and a version 1.0.1 patch is released the very same day. You know what? Just give the developers one more week to finish the game.

No Anti-Microsoft bias here. Since this is the Xbox 360 forum, I can post a discussion relating to the 360, whether you like the content or not.

Just the facts, ma'am.

Yea, because we all know that launch titles are always the greatest games ever. Sure, there are some diamonds in the rough with launch titles (Mario 64, Halo). But, generally, most people just understand that launch titles are not going to be a totally perfect representation of whats to come.

Also, as of yet, we have no solid launch dates for the other 2 consoles. It could be 6 months, it could be 9 months, or more. So, I'd say they have plenty of room for some sorting out. And anyway, PDZ wasn't getting that good of reviews from the initial plays and demos for the last couple months. Its not like everyone is expecting the next Halo or Half Life. Its going to be a decent game, a good launch title, but nothing to get excited about.

I think Microsoft does need to worry about the other two consoles. Since Microsoft has their system out now, they need to build a large enough user base, before the other two consoles. Make no mistake about it, Sony and Nintendo are big names, and no doubt that they already have large user bases. Microsoft only has six to nine months to take chunks out of Sony's and Nintendo's sales.

You can wonder why PDZ is nothing to get excited about. If you read Microsoft's talking points, you would have thought this was a Halo killer. PDZ getting a pass on Microsoft's certification process is proof that this really is nothing to get excited about. If you ask me, this is really sad. Rare, as a developer, deserves better.

Perfect Dark is one of my favourite games of all time. I really hope this prequel lives up to the originals standards.

Your post history speaks for itself.

You are a punk man. Grow up.

Its pretty sad (for Rare) when something like Call Of Duty 2 could possibly end up the better launch FPS, and its a PC game! Not so hot Microsoft.

If you're looking for a FPS for 360 next Tuesday, I would definitely get Call of Duty 2. It's the best WWII shooter right now and it looks great in 720p. The 360 version is on par with the PC version on a hefty rig.

This is what Xbox 360 games should be.

The original Perfect Dark is a classic video game, a worth successor to GoldenEye. I don't know what happened with PDZ. It's just not in the same class as the original. In my opinion, if Microsoft gave Rare six more months, PDZ would be a better game.

I was never dissing Call Of Duty 2 as a great game, but MS's strategy of not having a truly killer AAA EXCLUSIVE FPS on launch. COD2 is also available on PC - not an exclusive "gotta buy a 360!" kinda thing, so it lacks punch for 360 no matter how good the game is. I would also expect the next gen console's (PS3 and 360) graphics to be superior to any current PC game, as was the case early in the PS2 and XBOX's life cycles - GT3/Halo/Metal Gear 2 etc. These games showed off a clear generational jump from the mainstream gamer's point of view. They must be bummed PDZ isn't hewn from pure gold with diamonds in its lapels. Maybe we now know why Nintendo didn't really care about losing Rare. :sly:

MS really needed Halo3 (the only sure bet for a huUUuge buzz) at launch, or very close after (like Nintendo and Goldeneye 64).

I just haven't been impressed at all with any of the 360 games technology-wise. They all seem like really good current gen PC games. Not a bad thing, but a little limp from an eye candy perspective. Some like PDZ just look average, almost like they could do it on XBOX! :scared:

Maybe I'm just getting too jaded.

See, thats where your missing the actual story here. It wasn't MS giving them a pass. It was RARE themselves taking the chance that the game would pass. They knew, if they didn't start pressing discs until the game got certified, they would not have anything at launch. So, while the game was still in certification, they started pressing. MS didn't give any passes. The game has passed anyway, so no biggie. Really nothing more than a developer taking a big chance at something.

LOL at MS, way to go and kick your loyle supporters in the Nads!!! ouch!!! :ouch:

all the lauch titles ive seen running so far look like rehashed PC games or really lame attempts at games, but to go and rush what could easily have been the jewel in the crown for MS is a silly mistake, my Par went to town the other day with a friend who is a X-Box Fanboy through and through but he wasnt impressed at all by what was on show, and with shortages of consoles and no HD-DVD support for games at all this console is shapeing up to be a poor sucessor to the XB1.

I would like to see the 360 achive good marks and for the software to be good too, because this can only meen better proformance in the games market all round.

..err.. that other guy said it before me...

but anyways

Microsoft does not have room for mistakes.
That's false. Microsoft has room for mistakes. It's Sony who has problems at the moment. They have their Rootkit fiasco to worry about, far too many quality control and warranty issues with other products not related to their consoles, as well as their late launch. Let's also add in the fact that Hideo Kojima was recently to saying that the Xbox360 can more than handle the upcoming MGS game. That could very well mean that he has future plans to end the exclusive rights agreement with Sony.

Up to now, the only mistake MS has made is the fact that Japan won't be getting backwords compatibility, and the lack of rpg's on the console's immediate launch. Other than that, all their launch titles are solidly built and ran great even as early betas at X'05. Even though they don't have a 'killer app' at the moment, they still have a bunch of great titles. Kameo, PGR3, Perfect Dark, NFS, etc, etc.

You need to find something else to do with your time. The anti-Microsoft posts/threads are getting old.

No one's stopping you to find a flaw in Sony's progress with PS3...

It's biggest flaw is that it was intended as an Xbox title. If you look closely, especially at some of the character models, this will slowly become apparent.

How will the characters tell that it's a mistake to be an XBOX title?

What he means is, it was originally supposed to come out about 2 years ago on the original XBox. So, you have a core game that was designed and developed with a 700mhz/64MB machine in mind, not the console powerhouse that XBox 360 is comparatively. So, as he was saying, there are certain aspects of the game where you can see a lack of detail. With the original XBox, you could only move so many pixels and polys. But, with the new hardware, the limits are understandably much higher.

Thats the problem with many launch titles. With such new hardware, you can't expect miracles to appear. Take the original Halo for example. It was a great launch title. Nothing spectacular, but a great first effort, for both Bungie and the XBox. But, when you see Halo 1 next to Halo 2, the differences are striking. What was once thought of as a terrific game all of a sudden looked much less so when the successor appeared.

Thats why you should never get too over hyped or excited about launch titles. They are a good foot in the door, but hardly a perfect measure of what to expect from the console as a whole.

The console seems quite well thought out if you ask me, but okay...

From what I've read about PD Zero, it sounds okay if hardly groundbreaking. Hardly the pile of crap some people are making out.

Since the original and GoldenEye before it were so groundbreaking, I think people expect something wonderful.
