i dont really think he was complaining, he just felt a need to type something... anything. :P

I'm gonna build a new computer in a few months. i'l trying to hold out for dx10

DX10 is gonna be an update right? Not built in to the Vid card or puter. I don't know a lot about DX, just that the current ones are software updates so I don't see what the big deal is about.

well, every single videocard out now wont support dx10 fully. dx10 is suppost to have alot of new features and be a hell of alot more efficient than dx9 when it comes to hardware... that is if the hardware is made for DX10.

it is a very big deal :D

oh, great so I can't just install DX10 and have my vid card utilize it?
Yes and no..

DX10 will be available for those NOT upgrading to Vista - but the new functions in DX10 that are not available in the current DX9 cards will have to be handled by the CPU... So once it hits, a DX10 compliant GFX card will give you what you need..

Well considering most people probably avoided buying a full blown copy of XP and rather get it with a puter. I don't see how people would actually pay for Vista expecially if there's nothing really different than XP. When I say that would I see a significant change in productivity or functionality?? I doubt it would make a difference to me at least not for the price.

That post is totally true, but game developers tend to be very dumb when it comes to system requirements. Recent games just eat your friggin PC... They take every bit of performance out of your PC that they can....

Well I understand that it should be the best since it's pc but it's like "you gotta be part of the club" to experience it if not tough **** because we ain't waiting for you. That's the beauty of console gaming at least everyone gets a shot at experiencing great games. PC is All or nothing no backwards compadiblity because it's a week old and that's old. It's not realistic.

hell the same thing happened for alot of people when dx8 came out. my geforce 2 didnt support pixel shaders so i had to upgrade to a 9600XT. alot of games came out that my videocard didnt support. same thing is gonna happen with DX10.

i've been told that the jump from dx7 to dx8 will be about the same as the jump from dx9 to dx10...

No it won't. Microsoft bought the rights out for DirectX. They're releasing it as they please. And since they don't see it as a necessity for Windows XP, they WON'T be releasing an upgrade for it.

Can't believe I didn't see the Far Cry topic. :scared:

I would have loved FarCry if it was 100% human oriented, for some reason the mutants just annoyed me.

I gotta agree with db on this point, don't get me wrong Far Cry is a brilliant game, its because of Far Cry that I had to buy a new graphics card and once the scenery was showing correctly, I loved it. The island locations, vehicles, weapons were all awesome, and that beached aircraft carrier made me drool!

However, once I got into the complex where you first encounter the creatures I was kinda annoyed, I knew they were in because if I remember they mention experimentation at the beginning of the game.

The guards and mercs are cool though. Hopfully the sequel, if there is one, will be more human orientated.

MICROSOFT finally saw sense and decided to drop Windows Graphic Foundation (WGF) and replace it with the more easier and logical DirectX 10 name for its nexgen API.
It gave some details to the developers officially about its upcoming API and we know that it plans to release this API together with Longhorn. Or Visa, as we must learn to call it.

The DirectX 10 API will have completely new and faster dynamic link libraries (DLLs) and is supposed to run much faster. The company decided to cut the backward compatibility with DirectX 9, 8, 7 and lower in this API but there will be a way to use games programmed for those APIs. Microsoft will enable support for DX 9 or lower games through a software layer, meaning it might run slower.

The company did this to make the next API faster, it said, and at the same time will take some burden of the CPU runtime. At the same time we learned that DirectX 10 will have support for Shaders beyond Shaders, model 4.0.

It's coming with Longhorn but we learned that Shader Model 4.0 might come even before Vista. µ

:)

After borrowing the game from a friend, and playing it on my machine, i must say, this is a great game. I recommend this to anyone wanting a great game, with great graphics.

Ever played Airstrip? At the second flag there is a large hangar. In the corner of that hangar, nearest the flag, there is a glass window that is breakable inside of the hangar. Drop an Engi mine, or blow up a truck next to that corner... and you'll lock the server. It will have to restart in order to run again.

Now, I could tell you about every blast wall, and how to get around every one of them, but I'm too lazy to type that much. A blast wall is an invisible wall that protects players from going "out of bounds" or basically into spots not designed for multiplayer. But, in the creation of these boundries, the designers left cracks due to lazy coding.

If you've ever played Freighter, there is a tower on the attackers side of the third flag. If you prone behind it, you can shoot people without having people see your body. Basically your view screen (in first person) is NOT where your actual head is (third person) in the game. Yeah, real genius on that design.

Need I go on?
