Hi everyone

I am going go-karting for the first time with my friends tonight. This is the track we will be racing on. Can anyone please suggest the best/fastest racing line ?

I don't know the start/stop so please specify which one you are assuming as your first corner.

Any general tips about go-karts will also be helpful.

Thanks

The red line is a common defensive racing line, the blue line shows a line with higher exit speed - more favourable on hotlaps.

Just remember that karts are not race cars and that going off the racing line is sometimes faster. Make sure you carry speed all the way through the 2 sharp hairpins - karts often don't accelerate quickly out of corners like that and people also tend to dive underneath you if you leave the apex too late.

Well,
Just my take on this... but...

Each car has a slightly different line due to how each car handles differently.

However, the idea of using the "apex" always remains.

For me it was harder to draw the line onto the map than it was to see what the line "should" be.

A good idea to help seeing the line in this course is taking the course map provided into something like MS paint.

Then, at each apex put down a single dot (that is clearly visible). From there connect the dots.

I used this method to first put down white dots on the apex of each turn, then I put down green dots in-between.
Then filled out the line with a light green line. :sly:

Basically, stick to the rules of "the apex."

(not a great MS artist...)

Also take note that since karts are basically slow but grip like hell, you may actually be at full-throttle through turns you wouldn't think you could take at full throttle. Adjust your lines accordingly.

Also, if the track is wide enough, you don't really have to use all of the track, as at full chat, the kart will be able to make some turns at full speed without resorting to banking along the outer edge of the track before and after the turn. It's just a matter of balance.

i went karting at wessex raceway, 55-60mph, be easy on thebrakes, i made the mistake many times of slamming the brakes on and losing the back end into corners, also be careful on the throttle out of the corners so as not to spin and dont double pedal :D

dont double pedal :D

I was karting the other day in dual-engined karts and the only way I could find to keep good exit speed through the low to medium speed corners was to stay on the throttle under braking. I found that if I came off the throttle, then onto the brakes, then back onto the throttle, the engines would bog down and I'd be left with less drive out of the corners. Whereas, when I was staying slightly on the throttle under braking, the engine was more ready to accelerate out of the corners. A bit like an anti-lag system in a turbocharged car. Obviously they tell you not to do it, but I seriously doubt staying slightly on the throttle under light braking will damage the karts.

I also find that if you can identify a corner where it's not quite flat, instead of lifting off the throttle slightly or even braking, it's best to drift the kart through the corner on full throttle. Turn in quite early and very sharply, so the kart is effectively sideways, facing the apex of the corner. This technique seems quicker (for me at least) than lifting or braking.

We did the Outdoor Practice. The karts are pretty quick and the track's good too. It's £25 for 2x10 minute practice sessions or £42.50 for 4x10 minute practice sessions.

I'm pretty close to Glasgow.

Yeah, we've been to Scot Kart a few times. I like the flyover with the crest. The twin-engined karts are great though, the acceleration is great. They're quite a bit heavier than the single-engined karts though, so I spun out when trying an adventurous overtaking manoeuvre. I reckon if it had just been the single-engined karts I could have caught it.

Yeah, Scot Kart's pretty good. The tight and twisty track is fun because it usually gets all the drivers pretty close together, so there's always a bit of overtaking action going on.

yeah and i hope its me doing the overtaking! :sly:

Thanks for the great advice everyone. Much obliged.
It was my first time and man I think I am addicted now. It's was one of the best experience of my life and they weren't even shifter karts. Only brake and throttle, no gears to worry about. I can't wait to drive a shifter kart now.

PS
Toronto? where? which track? I'm going Go-Karting Sunday!

I went to Formula Kartways. It's technically in Brampton, Rutherford and Bramsteele Rd.; just north of steels. It was a good race track albiet a little short. I came second in my group with a fastest lap of 36.21 sec. I am quite sure faster people can manage a 33.xx. www.formulakartways.com

Again, Thanks for the help guys.
