Fastest way to text message?

What method do you use for your text messaging? What do you think? I ask because I had a sidekick forever that I just dropped in a glass of water about a month ago, and now I'm back to a regualar phone. I used to think that QWERTY keyboards were da bomb, and that nothing was easier or speedier, but now I've discovered predictive text and gotten good at it (I use T9, they have a tutorial to help with speed, here: www.textfast.t9.com).

Is this advertising or do you actually care?

If you're serious the main theme of my texting stategy is alt+tabbing. Spending as little time as possible within the aim box and getting straight back to whatever else I was doing.

That's what I was thinking. New member, drops a website on us with a little encouragement we try it out... Random (BORING!) topic of conversation of little interest to anyone except phone companies...

Is this (not so) sneaky surveying by a phone company or what? Or are you just plugging the website?

No one drops a nice phone into a glass of water. Please, new cover story dude.

Of course I may be wrong about you... If you're legitimately interested in how people use the texting functionality of their mobile phones, I can only feel sorry for you, you sad, sad person. :sly:

I dont text. I like to keep my grammer and dont want any bad habits. 9/10 times its cheaper to call for 10mins instead of sending a zillion texts anyway.

And im pretty sure you advertising also ;)

With most modern Nokia phones, you can connect it through Bluetooth and Nokia's PC Suite and text message with your PC keyboard. Of course, you would have to be in range of your computer to do so.

Hmm, Fryz, let's see.

"I don't text. I would like to keep my grammar and don't want any bad habits."

Sounds to me like you have already picked up some bad habits.

End Famine mode

It's a little ironic to be making fun of text messaging on a message board, don't you think?

I am not a phone company. And I'm not a "dude".

I keep a double highball sized glass of water near my bed so that when I want a drink of water during the night I can just get it without getting up. I must have had the sidekick in the bed with me and not known it, and I must have better aim than I think during sleep, because when I woke up, there it was, and it had been there all night and never worked after it dried out. As much as I regret this incident, I don't think it makes me lame.

If y'all don't wanna talk about texting or T9 then why answer at all?

Fine, but you must realise how one could think you were advertising/surveying for a phone company, given the style of your first post. It just seemed contrived, and others thought so too. Still, I can't say for SURE who you are even now, but that's just the internet for you really.

BTW, its not ironic that I'm posting on a messageboard. GTPlanet is the best one around by a long way - IMO. It rocks, and I'd wager most users on it would NOT be part of any web-forum if GTPlanet didn't exist. The community has a great diversity of opinion and knowledge base, and a love for cars and driving games - thats what's important here - not the medium we happen to use for communication. You cannot infer that anyone who uses a web-forum system of communication LOVES it by default – it's just the system GTPlanet happens to use. I use text messaging also – out of neccessity. I don't enjoy text messaging in and of itself in any way, I just want to communicate something to the person/people I'm texting. Same with GTPlanet.

I looked at your topic initially thinking I might be able to learn some technique for texting faster that I didn't know about, as I hate texting due to the slow speed of input.

I never said you were lame, only sad if you enjoy cellular willy waving for the sake of it (in light of no useful information regarding texting faster).

Ok, dude?

I have a Sony Erikson and I hate using predictive.

My typing is not that fast, certainly not as fast as one of my mates that can reply fully with seconds (But he has contract and texts alot anyway).

They did a test before and a guy doing morse code beat someone texting.

I used to use a Siemens SL65, which was great. It had a PC app, on which you could type out a text message. It read the phone's address book via IR, so you picked the destination, then the app IR'ed the message to the phone, which sent it. It's amazing how quickly you can type 160 characters on a full-size QWERTY keyboard!

Now I have a SonyEricsson phone which doesn't seem to offer the same functionality. I use predictive text though, which is fine.
