Waking Life - If you're interested in philosophy and can sit through a very....thick film, this one is interesting. It's not my favorite movie, but I did enjoy it.

Definitely a good film, albeit a bit pretentious in spots... Although, it's hardly a film no one has seen... It was quite popular around here... Won a few awards in the idependent seen, as I understand it...

I'd say it's probably been seen by less people than some of the other movies in this thread. I'd never heard of it until my friend mentioned it when we were BS-ing about philosophy one day.

Most people I know haven't seen "Twelve Monkeys" with Bruce Willis. It's a crazy, crazy movie. If any of you know who Terry Gilliam is, he directed it. If you don't know, he's from Monty Python. This particular movie, however, doesn't feature his comedic side and in its stead is a very bleak story set in the future with a man who travels to the past to prevent a world-wide contamination of a super-virus. Sounds dumb like that, but the acting, plot, sound...everything is wonderfully put together in this film. I suggest checking it out; watch it with someone more appreciative of a somewhat philosophical and meaningful film.

BTW, Brad Pitt can act like an insane person better than anyone I've ever seen. lol He "researched" he said.... *snickers*

Yeah, "Waking Life" was quite popular when it was first released on DVD. Still, a good recommendation though. 👍 I have both "Waking Life" and "Twelve Monkeys" on DVD.

"Waking Life" was an entertaining film to me, not only for the angles on life, but also for the interesting visual. It's only like six bucks on DVD. "Twelve Monkeys" is one of my favorite movies of all time. Bruce Willis is just amazing in it. I agree, Brad Pitt was pretty convincing as a nut. 👍 DVD has an awesome documentary of Terry Gilliam filming the "Twelve Monkeys". It's one of the best extra features I've seen on a DVD.

I just recently purchased on DVD Kaze - Ghost warrior. It's an independent CGI anime movie done by a guy in Alaska. In 6 months, one guy and two home computers (apple of course). Did the entire 22 minute movie.

I can only hope that it'll be a full movie someday.

Excellently done.

Oooh, another must watch for horror/thriller fans out there.

The Last Horror Movie

A serial killer uses a horror video rental to lure his next victim. A movie that begins as a teen slasher is taped over by Max Perry (wedding photographer as a day job, serial killer as a hobby) as a home movie of his murders and his insights into human nature when it comes to violence.

A very cool movie, a great idea for a film that has been made very well considering the budget available. The actor who plays Max (Kevin Howarth) is very believable as a serial killer, charismatic but dark. Very creepy indeed.
Not very scary but well worth a watch.

Wow, I just watched The Boondock Saints after reading about your opinions on it.

Such an entertaining movie! The many shootouts were nicely shot and cool to watch and the way that each crime scene is analysed by Willem Dafoes character before you actually see how it turns out it great too.
The two brothers have great chemistry together and Dafoe does a very good job with his FBI agent who begins to sympathise with the brothers cause.
In a single scene it is easy to lose count of how many times the F-bomb is dropped but then again, they are Irish so it is to be expected :D

It's a great movie so as soon as I find somewhere which sells it I'm going to buy it. Along with From Dusk Till Dawn 👍

Highway.
Not sure if anyone here has seen it, but around here, its pretty unknown.
Drugs, girls, alligator boy and the Kurt Cobain tribute in Seattle. Can't be beat!

King Crockery
I'd say the first SAW, Stalingrad and Silent Running. I'm pretty sure that these movies aren't too well known, but they're excellent movies. Oh and i wonder if "28 days later" will count? The best virus related movie ever made.
Wow. I haven't seen "Silent Running" in a very long time. :D "28 Days Later", I think is a pretty known movie. It is awesome. 👍

My choices are SAW (not sure if was popular when it was originally released), CUBE (a great foreign film... hahaha its from canada... but seriously its about a group of people that wake up to find themselves in colored rooms. each person has a specific skill that can allow them to navigate out of the CUBE which is filled with cool traps.) SOLDIER with kurt russel (about basically people bred to be soldiers and they are being replaced by "newer" models. Kurt russel basically gets mad and kicks teh S*** out of the newer models). WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP (not sure if it was popular or not but the story of a white basketball player hustles in a black neighborhood... some of the best insult and trash talking. Not even necessarily good trash talking but funny nonetheless) BOONDOCK SAINTS (college classic that has been mentioned previously). Original, not updated GONE IN 60 SECONDS (old 70's movie taht was approximately 80 minutes long and 44 minutes of it was the final car chase.. done without the special effects the newest incarnation has.) AMERICAN HISTORY X (again not sure if its popular but its an amazing movie... if you havent seen it go and see it.. only movie i ever watched where after i finsihed watching it on tv i just blankly stared at the screen just thinknig about the movie. though you have to be willing to hear alot of rascists, violence etc.)

One of the best films around. Sadly,I think you are right. Most (regular)people have never seen this movie. Edward Norton was actually pretty intimidating in this movie. :scared:

Jimmy Enslashay
Ford Fairlane: Rock and Roll Detective. That's all I have to say.
I thought it was pretty good. One of my coworker's obsessed with this movie!

I completely forgot Lilja 4-Ever... It's a fantastic movie with gruesome reality in it. I'm also more interested about european/russian movies because they have their own uniqueness and great stories that aren't always so predictable as mainstream movies.

Maximum Overdrive is a hilarious movie that I don't believe many people have seen. It's this horror movie about how machinery comes to life and starts killing people. But it seemed really funny to me, for some reason.

I saw that Dogma was mentioned; another great relatively unknown movie. I thought Chris Rock was really funny and quick-witted (though almost by default)

I have that film, Maximum Overdrive. The music in the film was entirly done by AC-DC and the 'lead' truck had a HUGE green goblin on the hood.

Maximum Overdrive is the single most awesomest movie made in the 80s starring Emilio Estevez and the main villain being a truck with a Green Goblin face on the front.

Oh, and Dogma is good too.

Dogma was excellent. I really liked Chris Rock in it too. It was a very famous movie, due to the media coverage it was getting for its' controversy with the Cathlic Church.

Maximum Overdrive is one of the most dissapointing film I have ever seen. Actually, it might be the most dissapointing. Late 90's(I think), one of my buddies recommends this movie to me. I start mentioning the movie to everybody else, they all start raving about how great and awesome this movie is. I go rent it, the girl who works there is like "Oh, this movie is AWESOME! Great choice!". Maybe it was an OK movie, I just remember thinking it would've been OK for an B-Movie(it kinda was). It taught me an important lesson though. I rarely go into a movie with high expectation anymore. :D

I mean, if you saw a green goblin face hurtling at you at 50 mph, no amount of courage will save you.

The Green Goblin owns your soul!!!!

I loved how the goblin eyes would glow red when he was really pissed off :dopey:
I remember when I was a kid after seeing the movie, I swore to myself I would own that truck! Now I kinda figure it would be hard to find. :dunce:

The Cube has to be the worst film i've ever seen - and i've seen Waterworld!

Grosse Point Blank is a great film that (in the UK at least) never gets the credit it deserves.

Grosse Point Blank is a very popular movie here in the States.

The Salton Sea is one a lot of freinds I have don't know much about. It's a great "dude flick." Everyone should check this one out. Burning Man is another. Both are pretty modern day, recently made movies.

I want to see a film called 'The Nature Of The Beast' again (not the one on IMDB)... an independent film made in the UK, it involved a boy who lived with his grandfather and who was determined to track down a mysterious beast that prowled the nearby moors... the grandfather's name was 'Chunder' () - there's a great scene, although meant to be sad, had me in stitches, when Chunder decides to burn all of the boy's newspaper cuttings about sightings of the beast... the boy runs out in to the back garden where Chunder is burning his stuff on a bonfire, and the boy is shouting "No, Chunder! No!"... an unintentionally hilarious cinema moment :D

I stand by my statement that cube was good..... kind of in teh same way taht maximum overdrive was good... i'd never pay to see it but if them on tv i always seem to end up watching them

"My Name is Nobody" - Henry Fonda, Terence Hill

It was Fonda's last western. It's been one of my favorites since I was a kid.

If you love spaghetti westerns and haven't seen this, you need to go out and find it today.

Spaghetti-Western star Terence Hill achieved international fame with 1974's My Name Is Nobody. A soldier of fortune, Nobody (Hill) is hired to gun down veteran outlaw Jack Beauregard (Henry Fonda). Before long, however, Nobody and Beauregard are bosom companions. When Beauregard announces his retirement, Nobody insists that the old man go out in one last, glorious shooting spree (taking out "The Wild Bunch") and tries to arrange for this to happen. Though excessively violent, My Name Is Nobody is also a lot of fun, especially when one compares the overanxious overacting of Terence Hill to the laid-back professionalism of Henry Fonda. The film was cut down to 117 minutes for the American release.

I rented "The Salton Sea". Very cool movie. 👍 Some of the characters in the movie were weird looking in a certain way, but the cast was loaded. While we are talking about Val Kilmer movie, I've got to mention another great Val Kilmer movie that no one's seen. "Spartan" is about the kidnapping of the U.S. President's daughter, rescue attempt and of course, the conspiracy. :D Rent it. It's worth every penny!

P.S. I almost forgot. Peter Sarsgaard(Garden State, Skelton Key, Red Eye) is in the Salton Sea. He is one of my favorite actors right now, so that was an added bonus.
