Hello to all of the Gran Turismo motorheads out there. I still don't have the game, but just like the rest of you, I'm a GT fanatic. Still play GT3 constantly! I'm curious to know what kind of racing the average Gran Turismo player prefers. Whether it's the Rally that really gets them going, the normal 2-3 lap road race, or the 2 or more hour endurance races? I know I'm also pretty excited about the new drag race feature. Personally, I prefer the road races, preferably with a buddy, we usually set it up for around 10 laps or so. This way it gives an opportunity to make a mistake here and there and still be in it. Although I do keep the catch-up feature turned off. Feel free to be as specific as you like, I'm very interested in knowing what other fans of the series favorite type of race is.

Like the rest of us here in the United States, I'm patiently waiting for the release of 4. It's driving me freakin' nutz!

Well luckily we only have to wait 15 more days. I like the 2-3 lap races and some of the 10+ lap races. I also like the 2+ hour endurance races, especially when I'm bored out of my mind. Rally races are OK, but i don't like them that much.

I have a hard time dealing with the series races that involve 10 lap races for each track in the series. It gets to be a bit much. Same with Endurance races...they get to drag on a bit.

2-5 lap races are just right, depending on the course. And it's really not about the number of laps, but the amount of time to complete the race when you boil it down for me.

I guess I'd rather just sit and race for fastest lap times than against opponents most of the time.

We usually play 2 lap races. Could make it longer, but it keeps the wait for your turn shorter.

I know I'm also pretty excited about the new drag race feature.

There is an member saying that you can't drag race against another player in GT4. It was in the "Proud Owner of Japanese...." GT4 thread, posted yesterday(I think).

I'd say in order of preference, I like:

1st: 10 lap races
2nd: Enduros (Any length)
3rd: Rally (Subaru WRX preferred, followed by Peugot 206)
4th: 5 lap races

I enjoy races with 10-20 laps or less. However, my favourite GT mode is license tests and just hot lapping against the ghost car. That's why I can't wait for GT4 and Mission Hall!

Rally in GT series is a normal track race without tarmac, no other changes. Then only track race, possibly real tracks with race cars, maybe JGTC

Arcade mode 5 lap races set to hard because you can push the cars hard without worrying about tires.
10 lap races when you need to earn some doh.

My personal preferance would be the races of below 5 laps as there was always a chance that one mistake or one loss of concentration can cause you to lose the race.

But on the other hand i loved to obliterate the competition in endurance races, seeing how many times i could lap the 2nd place car was always fun, should be a challenge on the Nurburgring

24hours on Nurburg, average of say 8mins a lap about 180 laps... hell i look forward to challenging myself on that one :D

Infact that causes me to have an idea. When the game is finally out eerywhere a challange to see who out there could do the most laps in the 24hour time limit on Nurburg, i think 200 would be easily possible but could 250 be done?

It would mean under 6 minute laps!

two to five lap races on a tight track driving average sports cars against decent competition. Thankfully, most of the races on GT4 fall into that category.

The rally races are pretty intense, but I don't like GT4 rally physics. If I'm slipping towards the shoulder and I straighten it up and put on the gas, I start slipping even faster towards the shoulder. I could also do without the endurances and the ten race series. The nice thing is that I don't have to do those. The bad thing is that I have to do them if I want the car they reward you with for winning. The worst thing is that I have to race them again if I don't the car in the color I want.

Not too fussed on the Rallying.

Normal tracks Under 3 Laps.

Anything else gets boring, as much as I love GT3/4 Anything more just gets boring.

I like proper full on rally sim's AKA not GT series, I like the short challeging races, and the enduro's (but i tend to fall asleep on some) i hope the ring 24 hour can keep me on the ball, the msot laps in 24 hours sounds like a good idea, with the same car, same mods, same everything to see who has the most enduroance and skill

The less than 2-3 lap races are the best. Anything longer and it's too easy to get back in the race. The longer races you just try to lap everyone else.

But in GT4 so far my favourite is the street course rally racing. I forget the track name but you're going through a european town (I think?) with pretty narrow roads. I only tried it once, but I can't wait to get the game and really go all out on all those courses.

I'm going to take some words from my buddy Kart Racer by saying "Love to race anywhere, anytime." When my PS2 is on, I love a good road race. It's my ticket for clearing my mind of anything related to NASCAR or some small town with a "dirt" track or "short" track. I can deal with just about any road race, but may have to make time for races over 5 laps. Tokyo R246 was the biggest time consumer in my GT4 history. The race lasted for about as long as an ALMS race (2hr, 45min). But I made time, missed a lot of good TV, but got the race down. Then I can remember the only Gran Turismo endurance I've ever done with a manual transmission setting, and that was the Grand Valley 300km in Gran Turismo 2. I used a Castrol Toyota Supra GT (not sure if it was the 1996 or latest (when the game was released) JGTC Supra.

I don't rally much in Gran Turismo, but it is still fun. And as much as I said the Lancia Delta was pretty ugly, I'm actually going to invest in the Lancia Delta for GT4 because the car handles beautifully in rally and in road racing. The Delta S4 in GT2 was beautiful around Seattle Circuit Reverse when I entered the Racing Model race for the Lancia Delta in GT2. In real life, the Delta S4 took the life of a pretty good rally racer once, but man. Beautiful handling, even if you disagree with the car's looks.

So, mark me down for road racing, alright?

1) 5 lap races
2) Endurance races (because of the knock-the-cones mini-game!
3) 10 or more lap races
4)Formula GT
5)Rally events

Formula GT is my favorite.
Next would be Endurance, and not to knock over cones.
Professional League would probably be next, 10 laps is a good practice run to judge tire wear and plan pit stops for the Enduros, work on setups, etc.
Beginner and Amatuer leagues I haven't raced since I cleared.
I like to Rally occasionally. While they're not true rally cars, the Honda 400R and the RUF CTR 2 are very fun dirt cars as long as you're not looking for competition from the other car.
The only thing I've done in Arcade mode is to open some tracks to run a TK ZZII on for an online series.

The main thing for me is competition. I get bored when there's no one to race against, so just going out seeing how many time I can lap a car is not something I do. The AI isn't great by any means, but I can usually find a car that I have to drive well to win with. If it's not good enough or I make mistakes, it's usually a 2nd or 3rd place finish, which is good enough for me. After I cleared a professional league series, I would rerun it to win the other prize cars, but I'd use one of my F1's to test with for that series. I seriously question all those who say they have no time for a ten lap race. That's less than 15 minutes for most of those, if you don't have that much time, why even bother putting the game in? I can understand someone saying they don't like a ten lap race because they use cars that overpower the competition (not hard to do) because when you do that, it turns into just running ten laps. The Vitz may suck, but that series is very competitive for me. Now don't get me wrong, I love the time trials. Me and my brother in law take turns trying to put up the "ghost" lap. He's a Deep Forest\Trial Mountain kinda guy while I lean more toward a Grand Valley\Seattle style. We both love Laguna Seca.

It was always my recommendation for beginners to run the Miata Endurance race. After they beat it with the LS I'd say now beat it with a different Miata. By that time they can drive a car, they understand lines better, and they realize it's not all about putting up the fastest time every lap, it's about being fast consistently. They also come out of it with a good chunk of change.

i loved the rally in GT3. in GT4 its fun and much harder!

also loved any road race whether it be with regular ass cars or super cars like the awsome 787B!
