Feeling stupid...help backing up data

I have done some searches on this and can't seem to get the clear response I am looking for. I have had my PS3 and GT5 for about a month now and am at a point where I really should back up my data. I have gone to the main PS3 menu (XMB). From there I have looked at Settings and looked at the Game section. I read that under the game section to go to game data utility. From there I am suppose to see a save icon. I am not seeing it. When I hit the triangle I get 3 options I believe...update history, information, and delete. I am hoping someone can walk me through step by step on this. Not looking for duping or anything, just backing up what I have earned. Thanks in advance.

Yes, go to saved data utility, highlight gt5, then choose copy and that will give the option for you to copy onto a USB device.

Hmmm? Not sure if you're trying to troll...
Go to the XMB menu and then under the game section you will find "Saved Data Utility". This is where your savefile is stored.
You can't backup the installed gamedata. Why would you wanna do that anyway? All you need is your savefile.

Plug your flash drive in.
Go under saved data utility.
Click on gran turismo 5 data.
Press copy
And then it will tell you where to copy it into and put it into your flash drive.

Sorry if this sounds silly but I SBM asking because I do not know..do I have to use a brand new memory stick for the save or can I use my external hard drive where I have backed up other files and documents?

Either has to be formatted FAT32, most memory sticks come this way already so thats easiest.
