Hi

Got in my hands the late released American (NTSC) version of FC and it doesn't match the Preview made.
- No online
- and some minor stuff

So "FerrariPro" why was the online removed?
At least you could had added a 2p_vs if you were to remove the online.

Mini review:
Sharp graphics for a ps2 game. nice reflections, great track detail it even has the tree leafs on the track like the ps3 and move as you pass too.
The A.I., the handling, and the vinyl option are the main max points so far its a exact match of the ps3 version.

pros:
everything

cons:
no online

note:6.5 out of 10

ps: remember Formula One 2006 for ps2 it had online and was reviewed by many sites having it, but the final retail release didn't.

Wait, there is Ferrari Challenge for the PS2? Sweet!!!! I'll try to buy it when I have some time...... :D

Well, redirect me if possible. However, if this is the only thread for Ferrari Challenge on the PS2 then let's have a talk about the game.
I'm headed to the store to buy it and wanted to know in these last few minutes if anyone can tell me whether that is a good or bad idea.
The game looks good but I have no clue if it will live up to what I would like to get out of a game endorsed by Ferrari.

So what's the deal?
Any of you play the game on PS2?
What's the verdict?

Thanks in advance,
-

So the lack of any multiplayer is the only problem with this game? Hell, I don't care about that! The graphics sound great, so I just need to know: how good are the AI and car/track selection?

I bought the game... Waiting until I've played a good amount before commenting. I expect to make a quick little review in the next day or so.

hello, I have ferrari Challenge (ps2), and it does not detect the steering wheel to me Logitech DFP. it happens to you the same to you

I'm renting this game and currently playing it. Allow me to offer my own ideas.

For one thing, one element of this game was somewhat a deterrent- Eutechnyx. Eutechnyx has been synonymous (to me) with mediocrity. This includes games like "Test Drive: Le Mans" and "Grand Tour Racing '98."

Graphics
The graphics seem very dull. It does run at a smooth FPS, however. Not the 60 FPS of a lot of titles, but kind of like the 30 FPS with Gran Turismo 1. The game does look lovely for the cars featured. I love the little F430 I've designed. Remember that I tend to "study" racing games to get an idea as to what could be taken away that could be implemented or conceptualized for other games (namely the Gran Turismo series). One of those elements was customizing your car as well as naming your own team.

Car Detail
I wished I had a blank car I could work with and paint up to the best of my ability. I found a dark blue color I liked. However, I was in love when I changed the paint style to Pearlescent. Dark blue color + pearlescent = me in love! There was even a lovely crimson color you could select for your Ferrari F430 that looks outstanding in pearlescent. To show you what I'm talking about in terms of base colors, let me show you the two colors I love:

* starting from the base red color, go one color right and one down. That crimson-like color is beautiful. Since blue is my favorite color, from the crimson color I shown you, go down one, then go four colors to the right. That dark blue color is lovely. I would have that dark blue color and a lighter (yet rich) blue color followed by gold wheels if it were up to me.

Music and Sound
The music was very manageable. Most lackluster racing games lack decent music. The Ferrari engines (at least from the F430s) sound great.

Racing
Here's an analogy for this game- this game is like Ferrari F355 Challenge from Sega, only with more intense handling and the much lovelier F430 compared to the F355 which I never really liked. The AI is pretty competitive, even if a little dull. You're not a pro until you disable the assists (which I haven't done with this play-through).

Overall...
This game is pretty much a rental. The hypocrites would find plenty of reasons to hate this game. I think it's a very good game where you can have a very decent amount of fun. Why should you care about this game? It has a lovely showcase of Ferraris as well as a bunch of Ferraris in a quality package. I say it's worth a rental, but you may want to get this game if you think this experience is fantastic.

I'd say "3 out of 5" for this game.

I've ended my rental play-through of Ferrari Challenge. An accomplishment I acheived is that I was able to unlock and purchase the Ferrari 575 GTC. While I don't love the 575 that much (for its looks, mostly), it was still cool to race this really fast car. Another good thing about getting this car is that I could vinyl up my Ferrari as much as I like. The problem is that paint options seem severely limited. That even applies to the base F430 you use in Ferrari Challenge events.

The Challenge Cards game can be pretty fun. All you have to do is think of what car has the better stat on something. One thing I was pissed about was that I chose price. Next thing you know it, I lost to a PRICELESS CAR! Like, y'all got me messed up!

What I've Taken From This Game
What I take away from this game is that the driving dynamics (even with assists) feel very challenging as well as realistic. I'm probably a little saddened there was no Ferrari of Houston representation (or even Ferrari of Dallas). Just a little Texas bias. If the developer could, they may have put in as many as 20 cars to a track. You race in North America, Italy, and Europe in this game. I always feel like a real world championship would enhance the appeal this game provides. I'd love to tear up a few other circuits around the world in a beautiful F430 Challenge Car. For example- Interlagos, Suzuka, Dubai, (maybe) Bathurst, and tracks like that. This was still a nice experience.

I'd probably rent this game. If you feel there is added value in racing other cars (and there is) and for racing much longer than a rental session, go ahead and buy this game.

I've rented "Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli" again. I must say that while I still wish there were better customization options, At least I'm making an effort to better design my Ferraris in the game. So far, I've won 25 races, raced over 250 miles, and won the following individual tournaments:

* 575 GTC races
* F40 races <<< retired at Paul Ricard, came back to win out at Virginia International and (that other track)
* F50 races

The car I'm trying to purchase in the game is the 333SP. Most of you know that's my all-time favorite race car. I can't make the Momo Ferrari or any Ferrari of Houston's own Risi Competizione, but I want to make my own Ferrari to enjoy racing. Being able to purchase and race the Ferrari 333SP has been my clincher to get this game. These cars handle very unforgiving, requiring advanced driving techniques and precise car control. Because after all, this isn't a Need for Speed game where a 7-year old can pilot a Ferrari like being on train tracks. Very good game.

So is this game worth buying if I don't want to fork over the money for the PS3 version? (I'm sure I'm able to find the PS2 version at a very good price)

I was done with my recent rental of this game. And just to say- YES! I have the Ferrari 333SP in that game from my save file. Maybe not an exact sound, but very lovely. This was a game in which I've found brand-new appreciation for the Ferrari FXX. That thing is crazy fast with sweet engine noise! I still haven't raced Spa-Francorchamps yet from my experience. This is a very fun game with a forgiving physics and driving engine.

I personally love this game!! For $15 used it is an incredible deal! Of course I can't wait to get a FXX or 333SP, but all of the other Ferraris are incredible to pilot! Racing the 355 Challenge around Spa has been a highlight from my experience so far (1 day). One feature I love is the Ferrari card game- there are useful stats for each Ferrari! I would recommend this game to anybody who loves realistic racing games, and obviously Ferrari fans. The game developers have outdone themselves here! -kevin

I finally got the game today. Is there no cockpit view? It's on the box, yet not an option in-game. Is it an unlockable, what gives? The controls, particularly for shifting, are akward.

I changed to setting three for the controls, I think it is. Right analog stick up/down to accelerate/brake and R2/L2 to upshift/downshift. There is no cockpit view for the PS2 version. I was disappointed about that as well. Read on the box and you'll find, "Screen shots from PS3 version" in fine print. -kevin

Oh, I didn't see the L1/R1 buttons to switch to more sections at the Options menu. Awesome. The physics were akward at first, but now that I'm getting used to them, it's a decent game. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a simulator though. The cars handle like slot cars, even more so than in RalliSport Challenge.

I picked this game up tonight in exchange for Nascar '08. I returned the Nascar game and wondered what I was thinking even buying it in the first place. It was so arcade-ish. SO I decided on an exchange for Ferrari Challenge seeing as how I THINK I have all the good sim racing games for PS2 and now I'm in the process of trying to find something new.

Well, let me say I'm thoroughly displeased with this game. I've heard people talk well of this game here on GTP. I guess maybe it's me but I didn't see the good in it. Sure there are Ferraris, but really, I don't want to drive a Ferrari that bad.

1.) The autosave feature is thoroughly annoying, after finally disabling it, all was better in that department, but without it disabled, it took forever to save, not to mention it saved after seemingly everything.

2.) Rapid downshifting will net you a sound that is not much different than smashing a chain link fence with an aluminum baseball bat. I have no idea what the deal was with that, perhaps I was downshifting way too fast?

3.) The graphics for the game. I know it's only a PS2 title, but it makes Gran Turismo 3 and 4 seem like GT5:P. The track looks terrible, the cars look alright I suppose but the rims and reflections look like garbage.

4.) Livery editor was a joke, IMO anyways. I think Need For Speed titles have better options, tribal? Really?

I'm sorry to grave dig this thread, but perhaps there is someone here like me, who has not yet upgraded to a PS3, who is looking to add another racing title to their collection. Please look further into this game before buying it, or just rent it. Good thing GameStop will take it back in exchange for another new game, I'd have to go skeet shooting with this game otherwise. I know this may seem harsh as some seem to like this title, I'm sure it's better for PS3. Even from looking at the box I thought it would be better. It said Monza and Spa and other famous tracks which I desperately want to drive. I didn't even bother to try unlocking them.

Again, sorry if this is inappropriate, I just have to voice my displeasure somewhere. If anyone could suggest a racing title for PS2 that is actually good please do because I'm in the market for one. Thanks.

The "Challenge Card" mode in this game seems useless :grumpy:. I've played it for an hour or more and I lose often, especially the full deck. It's hard to win the full deck.

Besides of that, I've discovered so many old and rare Ferrari cars that I never know when I'm playing Challenge Card. 👍

LSX
<snip big post of truth>

I agree 100%. Another thing that bugged me was that it was impossible to understand how to complete the game, and every race seemed to be at Monza.

Just bought this game and the thing that impress me a lot is that the driving. It feels kinda realistic with heavy steering and the braking... But I'm not impress at all with nearly all the circuits to be raced are... MONZA?? And the customization is good too :)

But the graphic details are fantastic!!! So far, I kinda like this game...
