Please be aware that while two cars are being launched on the third, this thread is for the discussion of the Ferrari.

January 25 – Caterham CT01
February 1 – McLaren MP4-27

February 3 – Ferrari (TBA)
February 3 – Force India VJM05
February 5 – Lotus E20
February 6 – Red Bull RB8
February 6 – Sauber C31
February 7 – Williams FW34
February 7 – Toro Rosso STR7
February 21 – Mercedes W03
February 21 – HRT F112
March 1 – Marussia MR01

Two down, then to go. Tomorrow will see the launch of Ferrari's 2012 car which, as yet, does not even have a (public) name. So far, sketches of the car's supposed design have been leaked in the Italian press, but this is a regular occurance with Ferrari and the sketches do not always resemble the final product. Otherwise, we know very little about the car, other than Stefano Domenicali describing it as "ughly". After the poor response to the Caterham CT-01 and its stepped nose, prepare yourselves for a similar eyesore at the front end.

The current naming is F2012 as what some suggested although the real deal will be known tomorrow. Their cars have never been a good looker since the their 2008 contender. As said, if even Domenicali himself calling the car ugly then I wouldn't be surprise if this one is also going down the drain in terms of design. Performance is key though...

Actually, I think Domenicali was simply insulating the team from criticism. If he warns people in advance that the car will be ugly, it will be less of a shock when the car is unveiled. They've also broken tradition and will be the third team to launch their car instead of the first, so people will have had time to become accustomed to the design that debuted with the CT-01. Although this may have been lessened by the launch of the MP4-27 (and possibly the VJM05 if they are closer to McLaren than Caterham).

I've never really considered modern F1 cars to be particularly pretty. They're quite marvelous to look at from a technical standpoint. But I wouldn't really consider them pretty. Not like an Aston Martin or an old Ferrari road car. But of course, looks isn't the key here. It's all about the performance.

That's a real shame, but at least we get pictures of the car.
Eh, it's the same outcome. A launch event would really only give everyone the opportunity to talk about the new car, but by the end of the day, they all would have said the same things as every other team did (or will do).

Who is all supposed to be scheduled to drive the Ferrari car? I know that Shell is a primary sponsor of the Ferrari cars, but in all honesty, I don't follow F1 well enough(being American and all) to know all of the driver names.

One more thing about the name of the car, if Gran Turismo naming holds up, I suspect that Ferrari's next car is the F2012.

The URL is "singleseater2012.ferrari.com" - which could just be a reference to the year, and not to the chassis name.

I was disapointed hearing the cancellation of the launch ceremony. Although being a Mclaren fan, Ferrari is and always be the heart of F1. I hope the F2012 is dominant.

I think they should launch it in the snow. Send some Ferrari FFs to cart the press around in, and then show the car outside. Have it blast around a track in the snow. David Coulthard does it, albeit, in older cars.

Looks like a combine harvester.

Well boys and girls, I'm going to go kick several puppies after seeing it on the live stream.

EDIT:

Does anyone get the feeling that a engineer just built an F1 out of legos and the FIA was like..."That right there is what f1 is about!!! Car of 2012"

end of story.

Stepped nose on the Ferrari. But the first thing that struck me was the exhaust positioning.

I'm a bit underwhelmed by it, but i'm sure there is more to come, with these only being showcars.

If that's official, then it seems Ferrari is going for the exhaust blown brake-ducts instead of the exhaust blown rear wings. I like the rear wing blower better, but only time will tell which solution is best.

Interesting. McLaren dumps the L-pods, Ferrari's new pods sort of look L-shaped about halfway back because of the exhaust solution... I wonder if they're using the exhaust cover as a means of hemming in the air over the diffuser? Pressurizing it and giving it more energy as it passes between the exhaust coping and the floor?

Fascinating design. Ugly nose... woof woof... but fascinating design.
